Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0 ... ld=1&rt=nc
Prices seem higher than they have traditionally been and it looks like there hasn't been a US Seller yet this year. Thoughts?

Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
Not surprised. More copies are falling into the hands of well-heeled collectors who have no intention of parting with them, some have probably been lost or destroyed. This eventually happens to all old, out of print games with consistent demand.

Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
Those Raizing PCBs suffer from terrible build quality. The last few I've seen have had some serious problems.. so yes - they are getting more rare, and more people want them. Expect prices to jump.
Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
Last month when I was in Akiba I saw a copy of Battle Garegga on Saturn at Trader for 13,000 yen I believe. Not sure if that's the typical price here though because it's the only copy I was able to find. Despite the game's reputation I can't bring myself to pay that much.
Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
I can see this becoming an expensive title for the same reason that drove me to pick it up.
This game being the only case I know of, where the port is more playable than the pcb (if you don't like the lag).
I loved this pcb, but could not get over the input lag. I sold it because I stopped playing it for that reason.
Being the great game that it is, I wanted to play it again.. and read on this forum that the Saturn port had no input lag.
I now can have a seemingly arcade perfect experience, minus the lag..
I do miss the slowdown on the pcb, but have read somewhere that you can adjust it back into the game via some settings?
Not sure how that is done, but it would make this port even better. Possibly, very easy to do..
Haven't messed with it too much because I got the Batsugun port right after, and that disc has not left the Saturn in months!
Both seemed to rise alot in price lately.. just since the second half of last year.

I was but I also wasn't necessarily neglecting the arcade version.Pretas wrote:So was he referring to the Saturn version?

What kind of faults have you seen rancor?
Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
Board flex. Traces losing contact. I guess since they're getting older, they're getting really fragile - moreso than older boards, or even other PCBs from the same era. Also unexplained errors on some of the chips. Trap15 has a really weird problem on his where it only works in reverse-tate mode, otherwise it's a garbled mess. I had one a few months ago that needed one of the custom chips replaced, and that wasn't cheap. I've had a lot of problems in the last 1-2 years with Raizing boards from that generation. I'd go over one 110% before I committed to buying.

Doesn't sound good at all.
Anyway I'd never link any ebay seller since as you know they sell things way out their right price.
IMO it has to do more with the demand right now, since more people want a copy of the game hence prices go up.
It is a shame though. It is the best shooting game ever, at least for me, and more people should give a try outside of mame version.

Garegga (SAT) has been a $100-150 game for over ten years. It really hasn't gone up much compared to most collectable shmups on console.

Damn, that's good to keep in mind. Handle pcb with kiddie gloves.rancor wrote:Board flex. Traces losing contact. Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
I'm on my 3rd Garegga PCB, and 2nd Batrider PCB. All previous boards developed serious video & graphical issues. I don't believe its due to flex or mishandling as I'm generally careful and check voltages all the time. Its seems certain chips are just starting to fail more often for one reason or another. On the bright side I've developed a keen interest in learning how to diagnose failures and try fixing them myself....not that I'm any good at it yet, but the interest is there since replacing these boards is getting more difficult for my wallet.rancor wrote:Board flex. Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
Is buying a new board cheaper than paying for a repair? Also, how often is the malfunction so bad the board simply can never be fixed? I foolishly traded away my Batrider several years ago and I'm considering picking up another, and maybe a Garegga down the line, so it'd be good to know that even if things go pear shaped I could just shell out the cash to get them fixed rather than dig around for another board that's likely to become faulty and need repair anyway.Dave_K. wrote:I'm on my 3rd Garegga PCB, and 2nd Batrider PCB. Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
I'll testify to the Garegga PCB quality issues. I've had two in a row with issues. The first just touchy about being plugged in, needs a little edge connector adjusting or it won't come on, the other way more serious: new old stock board that seemed to spontaneously mess itself on first boot, now a screen of garbled tiles.
Still need to send it in for repair at some point.
If Raizing still existed I'd lodge a formal complaint.

I'm confused, is this thread about the Saturn port or the PCBs?

Yikes, I'm glad I picked up my saturn version a couple years ago.
Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
Does it overwhelm you if it's about both?I'm confused, is this thread about the Saturn port or the PCBs?

Too bad to hear about the expectation that Garegga pcb is going to continue increase. I was sort of waiting for it to drop actually, thinking that we've seen a peak in price.
Re: Battle Garegga getting even more rare and expensive?
So, I see many loose pcb's of the different regions and ver. selling on here, pcb shops, ebay, etc., but never very many with the orig. art for the game. How many regions got art? How different is it? Is a pcb with art as rare as it seems? Also, what does this art add to the cost of the pcb? At least if your pcb goes belly up, the "boss" Yuji Kaida art will still be around.

I had to get very creative fitting my garegga PCB inside my saturn. Neither worked thereafter.

Never had a problem with my Garegga PCB so lets hope it stays that way .
I do seem to remember people saying Razing pcb's tend to flex fast and develop problems if not stored vertically .

But for the truly Garedesperate, there may be... other arrangements possible.

Time to petition 8ing for a release of a Garrega/Batrider/Bakraid compilation release on the 360.

mine is currently plugged in and gets at least a credit a daymoh wrote:too many people buying the pcbs and storing them in their closets ._.

which unfortunately means I've been neglecting my other boards. not sure if mine has issues as I've experienced some weird stuff with the board (colors shifting to black and white and back) which is sorta similar to what happens with my Progear board (tint changes). Leads me to believe it's part of my supergun setup, but in reality it could be the board(s).
