What time of day are you usually at your best performance?

Post by gs68 »

I find that I do well late at night, past my bedtime. If I play after school or after waking up, for example, I'm not that alert and I make stupid mistakes easily.

It could have something to do with alertness, though I was getting kinda sleepy when I set my latest Mushi high score.

First thing in the morning with a cup of tea and NO KIDS hassling me. A very rare event these days.

Cheers

Ditto, except I'll take coffee for the best performance. And sometimes after lunch is good too. Unfortunately I have to do most of my gaming at night, when I'm pretty beat up from the day. And if I play too late at night, it gets me all wired and I can't sleep properly.

Any time of the day/night. If I really want to improve my chances greatly, I make sure my room is clean, my stomach is somewhat satisfied, that I have gotten enough sleep and fresh air. This applies to basically anything I do.

Seems to depend on the genre. Right after I wake up or late at night for racing games. Between daily activities for shmups. Free afternoon for adventuring or RPG type games. Needless to say I don't play a lot of that last item anymore.

After lunch works best for me.

Apart from that it's like professor ganson said:

Thirded. If I feel good and aren't dozing off or thinking about food, anytime is good.

Actually this was researched a few years back, they concluded gamers produced their best result after sleeping on a game they were playing the night before and the best performance normally occured the morning after.
i.e. you play game at night, wake up play it again, = your better at game

Can't remember the source think it was a university over in england. Regarless probably wasn't a co-ordination/memory genre like a shmup.

Actually, yes. Research has shown that the human brain uses the downtime during sleep to process information garnered during the day. Data shows that sleep helps in retention of knowledge and boosts performance. I can't list specific sources for this though....been too long since that particular psych course.

I only seriously play video games at night if I want to beat a game or do something notable in a game, whereas during the day I just dick around having fun for the sake of fun in games.

So yeah, better at night -- around the twilight hours.

During winter time I play better at around 15:00 - 21:00
Where as, during Summer time I'm at my peak performance between 19:00 - 23:00.

I'm also very productive on Saturday mornings, especially on Run N' Gun, platform shooter like Strider & cute platform games like Sonic.

For me, Sunday afternoons are always best for Adventure platform games like SOTN & Blackthorne, RPGs like Terranigma & Zelda and for classic PC adventure games like Monkey Island.

Awesome experience which was also combined with the right time of the year was when I played through Hexen 1 during winter of 1996. The weather was ideal for the dark, sinister & fogy theme of the game and offered the perfect atmosphere. It was a very cold & dark winter that year, for Athenian standard that is…
It took 5 months to complete right in time for spring.
