I'm pretty sure Golden Axe Collection was to be Vol.34, and Shinobi Collection was to be Vol.35
At least they did release a Golden Axe Collection for 360. It's disappointing it doesn't include Revenge of Death Adder, but I found the two Genesis exclusive Golden Axe games to be underrated. I like how it includes the arcade Golden Axe, as well, though it would have been nice if it had the Genesis version since it has some nice extras.

RODA not getting a Saturn port was a travesty, to say nothing of the series getting junked for 1v1 fighting in The Duel. Then again if GAIII's mediocrity and Bare Knuckle's disappearing act are any indication, I don't think Sega cared. I love GA designer Makoto Uchida's Dynamite Deka but its Virtua Fighter-derived arena brawling is a very different deal (even if you play as GA characters in M2's phenomenal-as-usual PS2 port)

I really like the MD's GAII. The amateurish KOF 2001-esque sprite edits to the main cast are a bit embarassing, but mechanically it makes lots of small enhancements that add up to a very nice Black Label. Crowd control is hugely improved by aimable, invincible command throws that knock down other enemies. Mounted charges are way more fun now that they mow down entire crowds instead of stopping dead at the first impact. Selectable magic level allows you to weigh up several smaller blasts or a single boss-killing cataclysm. And to balance out all these goodies there are far more enemies onscreen, and their AI is just as lethally backstabbing. Excellent, stirring fantasy-epic soundtrack too. Plus, it's cheap as teh chips!

The Pumaman is the only thing I like about the easy, boring and graphically bland GAIII. :[

Yeah, I really can't hate Golden Axe III because of the Pumaman. Probably the only reason I like it, even with his MIST O' DOOM attack that kinda makes me feel embarrassed every time I see it.

The game's standoffish yet ultimately noble-minded antagonist EAGLEMAN is boss too.

Hell... these dudes should've been in an Altered Beast sequel. After Beast King Chronicle, comes ANIMAL MURDER SQUAD.

PUMAMAN: as GAIII, has most devastating grapples (he bite the fuck outta your face)
EAGLEMAN: rips off ActRaiser 2 and The Ninja Warriors Again's divebomb and air combos, respectively
MINOTAURMAN: running attack specialist
ELEPHANTMAN: for some reason, perhaps being a stereotypical Hindi sorcerer, he blasts fire outta his trunk like that one Rockman X boss!

Haven't seen you post in the "Who Draws?" thread yet, and I think it's due time you make your way over there and show some members some real video game art. That and the amazing Magician Lord art that surfaced some time last year. That image comes to me in dreams.

This weekend I foolishly resolved to record a Holy Diver clear, despite having barely credit-fed through st6 BLACK SLAYER with my sanity intact the last time around. Got my smouldering ass cheeks handed back by st5 AKUMA NO KYUUDEN Image Specifically those last couple of pit/lava-strewn hallways infested with bullet-spewing METAL BLADES which always slow me down terribly. I end up picking away with the default shot while struggling to evade their fire, most uncomfortable.

Out of practice and disheartened I referred back to Funkdoc's no-miss speedrun. His aggression and finesse at smashing big enemies with point-blank Breakers is humbling and inspiring. Fantastic skill - I've a long ways to go before attaining the discipline at this one. I'd like to get a passable clear done this summer, along with the Metal Storm 2-ALL.

Firin' up Teh ROMZ in search of more side-view killin':

Dragon Unit (FC) What  Garish, ragged, and even forgiving that the combat seems a bit rock 'em sock 'em. Am I missing something? I made it to HERETIC FOREST before bailing out. Macaw's commentary does suggest it has some not immediately apparent charm.

On the plus side, the title screen BGM is totally Monday morning alarm clock material.

Sword Master (FC) A long-term resident of my test folder. Technically much nicer than the rickety Dragon Unit, but having played DU beforehand I noticed a few unwelcome similarities in its combat this time. Those Black Knights sure are mean fought toe-to-toe but they've a tragic Achilles heel, repeated whaps on the head from falling jump attacks. I'd like to stick with it though, if only for the very nice atmosphere. That's one nastily ruined village in stage 2, owns Akumajou Densetsu's for sure. Dead peoples!

When the Gynoug VC release was submitted to the ESRB, three raters vomited, two passed out... and six became more aroused than they ever had before.

You mean they need eleven people to rate games? Overkill...

Is anyone familiar enough with Splatterhouse, Part 2 or Wanpaku Graffiti to confirm they would be eligible for the "Game contains monster genitalia and/or religious imagery" category? Just thinking ahead for when I start up WILLY_RZRS Goodtyme Review Shack. I know Part 3 swings it for sure (check out the pentagrams and dentata vaginers!) but it's a beltscroller, not a sidescroller. :[

You chop up an inverted cross and punch your way through a womb in the original 'house. Part 2 toned things down, it didn't have anything like that.

Toned things down via chainsawing a bunch of vomiting fetuses hanging by ropes through a dilapidated ceiling.

Just remembered Wanpaku has its Sunday service / summoning of Beelzebub setpiece, along with another scene featuring an army of Giger facefuckers, so I guess we can file that one at a stretch too!

Ninja Gaiden you say? I did a (sloppy) no-death run of Ninja Gaiden III: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJPQ4M8IXY4
I still need to do a no-death of the first two games, but they have a lot more opportunities for cheap kills due to the infinitely respawning enemies.

Excellently done, I've still not learned to keep the firewheel more than about 25% of the way through the last act. Added to the OP if that's okay!

It's interesting how the trilogy's respawn policy grew more lenient, from rabidly aggressive to a virtual non-issue. The first game has absolutely zero tolerance for retreat - one pixel back and whatever you've killed respawns (and if the enemy's spawn point is at the screen edge when it's killed, it'll instantly RS anyway). NGII is still strict but no longer as garotte-tight, you can actually move the screen a bit either way without setting it off and you no longer have to manually scroll past RS points to deactivate them. NGIII won't smack you with RS as long as you don't backtrack to a previous area.

Would've been funny if NGIII had reinstated NG1 sadomaso RS along with all its other ratchetings up of the difficulty over Ryukenden III.

It's odd how Yoshi's Island DS is actually just as mean on respawn as Ninja Gaiden.

Thought I might bump this since, now that I've gotten through one of my shmup goals, I'm focusing on doing some videos for a platformer on Steam I really like that I'd like to show off to peeps I know.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... re=mh_lolz

They Bleed Pixels. It's an excellent game that needs more love imo. It's got fantastic level design (the stages have a great sense of scale and length, but never last too long), pace, variety, etc. clever concepts to make it playable for casuals and fun for arcade players (the checkpoint system). It has scoring (based on combos and chain killing enemies) and speed running, both of which have separate leader boards (a fantastic idea).

You could also say it's the best unofficial Wolverine game ever. You'll feel like a blood thirsty berserk adorable loli killing machine.

I'm going for a basic survival clears of the stagea (no death) without use of respawning, which is equivalent to a survival 1cc kusoplay. Of course there's a lot of room for improvement in these runs.

Also the steam version is drm free, and can be launched whilst steam is offline. I'd definitely rank it among my top 3 favorite pc platformers.
