It's called Xmas gift to yourself, man!
When I get halfway decent at the game, I'll try to capture the whole thing. At the moment, I'm not continuing or anything. I'll probably eventually credit-feed after a week or so to see the ending.

Hope you don't have to work today.Mine just arrived.

After some more playing, here's some more thoughts. Contains some spoilery stuff, if that bothers you.
-I have no clue how the end of stage bonus is calculated. I need to research more.
-They're really cheap on the gems this time. Loads of big ass bad guys that give you like 10 gems. I guess they're telling you to be in kakusei mode.
-The object of Zesshikai (as far as I can tell) is not to chain a big ship that spits out a ton of bullets, but to chain him after killing a bunch of zako. Regardless of how many bullets the zako spit out, they will generate random bullets (which are actually a nuissance, btw). You will then cancel these bullets w/ the next zako you kill, and more are generated. Do this a few times combined with something spitting out 100+ bullets, and you can get the multiplier up to 500 pretty easily. Getting out of it is the hard part.
-Some things are more forgiving (the ship in stage 1 that spews out bullets in kakusei mode will start the gush when you enter kakusei mode, regardless if he's mid-pattern), while oher things, (like getting gems as stated before and the amount of gems you lose when you kill an enemy) seem to be more harsh.
-Stage 3 boss is a cunt, and after that, the diffulty really ramps up. Stage 4 mid-boss and boss really suck balls.
-Bosses in general seem to have much higher defense. Noticeable even with Ageha. With Asagi, forget about it. You'll be there all day.
-Lots of stuff from other Cave games in here (Mushi-esque bullet patterns, Nightmare from Ketsui... it has to be, it looks just like it, the stage 5 BGM is a megamix of tracks from the first game, and it just wouldn't be an ESP**** game w/o Alice Clone, now would it?)
-The "you can do it" audio warning is a different sample this time. The AM SHow version was the same from the original game
-Voice actors are different from the original (I think)

Yeah it's the same size as the Mushihimesamma & Ibara pcb's. Wish I could afford ESPGALUDA II!sven666 wrote:wow, the PCB is tiny, i like
Ikaruga review now up in PLASMA BLOSSOM
what hardware is it? i understand Cave used something new from the PGM base for mushi and onwards?Ord wrote:Yeah it's the same size as the Mushihimesamma & Ibara pcb's. Wish I could afford ESPGALUDA II!sven666 wrote:wow, the PCB is tiny, i like

My kit came through today too, a real bastard from what I've played of it. It's a lovely looking game with, dare I say it, better looking explosions than Ibara. It is fecking hard though, ESPGaluda 1 is a piece of cake compared to this. It's a damn shame about the poster though, horrible folds all the way through it. Didn't realise it'd be taller than me!!!

Hope to see you in the High Score thread, and yes, it is definitely hard. I hope all the wienies that says ESPGaluda was too hard are happy. O_o I can get up to the 4th mid-boss on 1 credit, for about 45 mil so far. Still having trouble getting enough gems to really cut loose in stage 2.
EDIT: More videos at Hameko:
#3347 = getting gems from 2nd boss
#3348 = Wehha (2nd mid boss) in Zesshikai
#3352 = (4th stage boss, for just a second -- crap)

Okay, I'm finally getting the hang of this, and damn it's fun. I've started a thread in the strategy section which should explain a lot about the game for those that have it available. A lot of stuff has been figured out, but there's still quite a few things that are still a mystery. Overall, I'd put it's difficutly above Guwange, but below Ketsui.
Things I've become firm on:
-In Zesshikai, while I still think there are random bullets, the majority of the bullets come from other bullets. If you kill something in zesshikai that's covered the screen in bullets, you will successfully chain them, but they then spawn more bullets, whose trajectories are pointed towards you more or less. This can get dangerous.
-If you go into Kakusei Over mode, there's no gem problem like I was moaning about earlier. The difference between the minimum and maximum kakusei levels is huge though -- way more than the first one. Basically, you have to go into kakusei over mode, since there are a few parts that require a lot of gems to live.
-There are 6 full stages. The last boss is a whore.
-Asagi is the strongest character once she's fully powered. She sucks at first though (IMHO).
-No word on a 2nd loop, but there are two different types of Seseri's. The special one is accessible if you no-miss up to her (5th stage boss).

Oh my god....this has just sooo clicked with me! I was having a bit of difficulty getting to grips with the system in this (bearing in mind I've only just got to grips with the system in Galuda 1) I found the Zesshikai mode to be quite confusing, that was until I was a small way into the 2nd level on my last go and then BAM, it just clicked. Such a satisfying feeling to be getting all those 500x multipliers, it was one of those special gaming moments. This game has now been offically elevated to defcon awesome.

I found that watching the first stage video has been a huge help to get a feel for the game. Go post your score in the HS thread too!Pointman wrote:I found the Zesshikai mode to be quite confusing, that was until I was a small way into the 2nd level on my last go and then BAM, it just clicked. .

I hope this isn't considered a spolier, but since most of us have downloaded the replay's thus far...GaijinPunch wrote:Another update. Now the 2nd mid-boss/4th stage boss - Madara.
I love how this mid-boss' crossbow/gun explodes, taking off his entire left arm, spewing out a trail of blood from the shoulder as he continues to fight.
I'm so jealous I won't be able to play this for another year+ until it gets ported.
