SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS

3D Outrun hub site is up, confirms all the typical bells and whistles. This version will also feature two new tunes, one by Namiki and one by Chibi-Tech.
There's mention of a new mode involving car customisation, but I think they might just be referring to the palette changes shown in the screenshots... hmm.

Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
Proper widescreen this time. No mention of 60 FPS is worrying.
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
I don't think they've ever advertised the framerate for any of these games outside of interviews, have they?
As for the lack of true widescreen in FZ, they said they didn't do it because changing the screen boundaries would have affected they way enemies spawn/despawn or something, I forget.

So how many titles have they released yet?? Cause right now I am completely lost and I thought that Outrun was already out.

Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
Well it could obviously change gameplay, but as a separate setting (with a separate highscore if the difference is really bad) there's really no reason why it couldn't be implemented.GSK wrote:I don't think they've ever advertised the framerate for any of these games outside of interviews, have they?

Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
Considering how GG to SMS conversions often turn out, I can understand why they didn't include a widescreen mode. Check out videos of Sonic Blast for SMS to see why increasing screen size of some games isn't something to be taken lightly. Some games actually glitch when the screen is widened.ZellSF wrote:Well it could obviously change gameplay, but as a separate setting (with a separate highscore if the difference is really bad) there's really no reason why it couldn't be implemented.GSK wrote:I don't think they've ever advertised the framerate for any of these games outside of interviews, have they?

I was saying I wish they made a proper game mode and spent some effort on it and not just did a fast, lazy conversion.BrianC wrote:Considering how GG to SMS conversions often turn out, I can understand why they didn't include a widescreen mode. Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
Are you saying M2 is lazy???? I wish every studio were as lazy as M2, and we sure have a lot of good conversions and not all the shitty ports we've run into the last few years.
Anyway I hope the bring back awesomnes of the Megadrive era , bring back Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier in 3D Awesomeness. Also a proper and finished Streets of Rage 3 will be a nice addition to this 2nd coming collection.

No, I did not say that anywhere.Phellan Wolf wrote:Are you saying M2 is lazy????
I said I wish they implemented a feature that they didn't. Nothing else.
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
I was saying they have a valid reason for not including widescreen support for Fantasy Zone. Adding more screen space to horizontal scrolling games isn't a trivial matter and could have consequences that affect gameplay.ZellSF wrote:No, I did not say that anywhere.Phellan Wolf wrote:Are you saying M2 is lazy????

I already replied to this. I don't think it's trivial, I know it's gameplay altering and the solution to that is implementing it as a separate mode.
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
oh ok. I misread. I wouldn't mind it as a separate mode or game.ZellSF wrote: I already replied to this. I don't think it's trivial, I know it's gameplay altering and the solution to that is implementing it as a separate mode.

JP site for 3D Outrun has updated with a little more detail on the bonus modes:
-You can unlock customisations for the car that increase your max speed, change your handling, let you hit vehicles without slowing down and let you drive off-road without slowing down.
-The default game runs at 60FPS, but by clearing all five goals you can unlock an arcade-accurate 30FPS version
http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/in ... 45628.html
Part 1 of the Okunari/Horii 3D Outrun interview. They spend most of the time talking about the difficulty in remaking the game to run at 60FPS; from the sounds of things, they basically had to go in and manually retime/reprogram everything to get it working accurately, and it sounds like some of the non-interactive parts like the crash scenes might still be running at 30FPS. They also mention that they "fixed" the timer, so it won't be accurate to the arcade version, but you can have fun A/B'ing your lap times from each mode.

Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
sounds a bit like the Saturn version was a hack-job. I really enjoy the Saturn version at 60fps. Did anybody notice any huge inaccuracies when running this version at 60 instead of 30fps ?
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
I've never noticed anything while racing, but the crash animations are just the 30fps ones afair.
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
And we're getting Fantasy Zone II DX. Well hopefully, we're still lacking western localizations for the second batch of games.
I have to point out that Sega is doing a far, FAR better job republishing their classics than Nintendo is.

Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
I just wish they'd have put out a few more on 360. The quality of the Super Hang-on port alone makes me wee for the lack of an OutRun, Enduro Racer, Power Drift...

with Fantasy Zone Link Loop Land, whatever that it. Appears to be a multiplayer remix.ZellSF wrote:And we're getting Fantasy Zone II DX.
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
fixed. Telling from a the video, it has a meter and a combo system. The reason the picture for the video looks split screen is because the video is in 3D.Koa Zo wrote:with Fantasy Zone Link Loop Land, whatever that it. Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
I wonder how they're dealing with widescreen, because that looks like non-stretched widescreen.
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
it's been opened on the sides. Just like Sonic CD on 360/PSN.

One a month with Fantasy Zone II almost at the end? Torture

At least they are coming to the west. Can't wait for Outrun & FZ. Super Hang-On is my favorite download on 3DS.
Re: SEGA/M2 3D Series for 3DS
I totally forgot I'd made this thread, oops.
Japan is getting a Sega 3D Archives compilation at retail, by the way--it'll contain Space Harrier, Outrun, Fantasy Zone, Shinobi 3, Streets of Rage and Ecco, plus emulated versions of Space Harrier 3D/Outrun 3D as a bonus. They went back and redid the Space Harrier conversion for this compilation, so the retail version has improved 3D and some other exclusive features like proper button mapping and whatnot.

The additional Link Loop Land mode is really fun, incidentally.

Right, FZIIDX was manually adjusted for widescreen, it's not 1:1 with the original. That particular game is a straight port rather than an emulation-based conversion, so they were able to make lots of minute tweaks to their liking.ZellSF wrote:I wonder how they're dealing with widescreen, because that looks like non-stretched widescreen.

So if you're in Europe, there is currently a sale on these on the eShop. Streets of Rage, Super Hang On, Space Harrier, Galaxy Force II, Shinobi III, Ecco the Dolphin and Altered Beast are 50% off.
Picked up Space Harrier. Sort of considering Shinobi III and maybe Ecco as well. Even though it's, well, Ecco. Had it for Mega Drive back in the day, maybe it's time to bother actually playing it through properly...

I can't recommend Ecco at all. Got it for the 3DS as well, and it's one of very few games I actually stopped playing entirely before beating. It's very, very bad and not even the atmosphere can save it from its atrocious gameplay.KennyMan666 wrote:considering Shinobi III and maybe Ecco as well. Even though it's, well, Ecco.
