You know what's very funny about this recent announcement to me? After Double Dealing Character, I used to always joke around, about how the next game would be about Seija, and how after the events of Double Dealing Character, she was sentenced to pay a fine of 1 billion scorepoints, and a year's worth of community service to Gensokyo for causing the events of DDC, and you'll be playing as her trying to adjust to Gensokyo, and her changing morality since DDC, all while having to deal with her punishment, or something like that, I don't know.

Well, I found this announcement out today, and thought, "Oh my gosh. I didn't think it actually would happen. I mean, I could expect a phantasmagoria-like game, but woah." Well, at least the playing as Seija part, the jurie's still out for what ZUN has in-mind for the story. That's his call, of course, as the creator.

Well, that's my clown-ish muse about this. Let's see what happens next. Who would've thought she takes pictures, too?

*Edit made May 2nd, 2014* Whoops, I mis-spelled "Gensokyo," argh. Why did I not catch this sooner? I feel like such a fool right now. :oops:

EDIT: In all seriousness, I want to try the game first before really concluding if it's good or not. I actually quite liked StB and DS. So far, Seija is playable 2hu so points for that.

I actually think the mechanics look cool and the strategy of picking them before a level is a nice idea too. The slight graphical update is cool too. P.s. Said shrine maiden link has a. Break down of the abilities.

It's certainly not an ordinary touhou-game, and not even an ordinary shoot em'up or something that other devs have tried out yet.
Let's not make any big assumptions beforehand. This game is a spin-off, remember that.

It will never end. Even if ZUN retires from the series entirely, there will be people who just can't let go continuing to make Touhou fangames and arrange albums ten years from now. It's like an incurable disease.

Things that are more gay than bullet cancelling:
- Jumping
- Teleporting

On the really bright side, this game doesn't seem to have bom--

EDIT: ok I actually looked at cuc's post and this thing seems more dodgy than I thought

That's TOO much invincibility and we all know how hard it fucks shooting games in the ass. I also don't like the sounds of "automatic focusing" too much. Bullet attracting seems fancy, though.

So it's a memorizer where you just remember when to use which gimmick for otherwise bullshit cards? That... doesn't sound really fun. Although most of the ones in the vid seem to be dodgeable without needing the extra mechanics so I dunno.

I'd hazard a guess that the invincibility items will be weaker when it comes to score optimization. The lantern for instance is single use and lasts 7 seconds, but these scenes seem to last around a minute and apparently reward grazing, so surviving for a very long time against them will likely be the goal, and accomplishing that would probably require getting creative with the less potent multiple use items (like the statue or the camera), or, taking it even further, outright sacrificing these items for supergrazes instead of safety, leaving you to deal with the fiercest parts of the attacks on your own.

Personally, I have high hopes for it. ZUN tends to do well in the puzzle shmup department, and StB and DS were excellent. We just need to hope the items aren't broken as fuck (which, knowing ZUN, is a realistic possibility).

Which begs the question: how does one go from revolutionary to photographer?

In my eyes, the only thing that could save this game is introducing some interesting new character.

Well the popularity doesn't seem to be waning any over on this side of the pond. Plus 14 was a pretty decent fun game imo, I got no problem with 2hu sticking around for the moment even if they are all a little samey. No interest in this one though.

I don't think the popularity would be waning in Japan, even if there stopped being games altogether, really. From what I've heard, anyway.

i really don't understand how one can say this series has been "running on fumes for years" when the last two big games were the pretty good td and ddc, and i don't even like td! never mind that before that, we had ufo, which to many people is the second coming of christ. that's not even considering the amazing ds and fw, no.

i also don't really understand this hate for "gimmicks", when they're the only reason the spell card system means anything, but let's not go there.

zun's not getting worse, he's getting better. that's a very good thing when you're the last big name left in this genre.

astro port is good, but they're also kinda obscure and they don't make a lot of proper shmups anymore. edelweiss is also good, but they've made a grand total of two games in the last eight years and one of those isn't exactly well-loved.

People generally didn't like Ten Desires from what I've heard, but yeah DDC was great and UFO is probably one of my favorite shmups.

Yeah, as much as I do like how nice Ten Desires was, like how the game had some very nice backgrounds, the fact that it's another instance of a Touhou game, where you can play as Sanae, and the new characters introduced were pretty cool, I didn't like the way on how to play for score in this one, particularly how the trance and bombing bonuses were higher than the spell card bonus, like it encouraged just bombing and trancing for a high score. I've seen the WR replays, and it was basically that, for the most part. :| The trance system was also really powerful in this one, too, a bit too powerful. Anyhow, something about those just didn't feel right, and it's a shame, since Ten Desires was a pretty nice game otherwise, well, at least, in my opinion. :(

Haha, well, the joke idea I expressed earlier in this thread was partly inspired by the Dragon Ball series somewhat, particularly on how Piccolo and Vegeta eventually went from being the antagonists to the anti-heros to finally being one of the Z fighters. Incidentally, this has something to do with me re-watching the Dragon Ball series not long ago. :lol: The part about the scorepoints and community service, well, I would think the currency probably used in Gensokyo is scorepoints, and the community service part was something I thought of, since after like, you defeat the antagonists of said Touhou game(s), and they eventually become playable themselves, maybe they had to do community service to reflect on their deeds and pay scorepoint fines for causing said event(s), and along the way, there's a change in their character(s), in the style of like, say, Dragon Ball, so yeah, that's where that muse came from, from which I used to joke about that one, a random one I thought of some time ago, if that makes any sense, I don't know. :?

Yeah, I didn't know I was actually being quoted (I found out just earlier. What an honour to be quoted by Skykid and ACSeraph, haha :o), so it took me a while to respond.
