I'd assume the discrete (non-NOAC) Famiclones just copied the schematics from the Nintendo patent applications. Ergo they should behave exactly like the originals unless an engineer made a transcription error.

Just about. You should see the inside of a Dendy, it's almost an exact clone of a Famicom's.

Did you guys remove the capacitor on the front loader and solder it on the other side?

Nah just heated up the legs on the capacitor, pulled it out some, and folded it over so it lies flat against the pcb.

Here is an example of my NESRGB work for a customer.
I feel like my skills have improved greatly.

Where do you guys get those pin and connectors from for quick release especially the plug that connects up to Helders Nes multi out?

Semi-stupid question: wiring up a mini din 9 and using a genesis scart cable probably wouldn't work for the NESRGB, right?

Ever added a 8DIN to a NES with Neo Geo AES pinout? I find it baffling why people want to use the NESRGB with RGB cables for consoles that normally require external caps/resistors when the NESRGB already contains them! The Saturn, AES, & PAL Wii do not use any passive components for RGB.

And that's why some people remove those caps/resistors from the nesrgb.

Because our customers ask for it?

Must be baffling trying to figure out why people would want to use the same cables for everything, rather than having seperate cables everywhere.

Well that doesn't make it a good idea considering there are better parts on the NESRGB PCB. All so someone can save a few bucks to reuse a cable?

You guys still haven't provided an answer for game-tech.

I guess I missed it, but what was his question?

And, does using the caps on the NESRGB vs radial caps in a Nintendo SCART cable actually produce better quality picture?

No, it's the same result.

I just got my NESRGB installed and I get a really wavy picture. Here's a short video that shows what I'm talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Nt7US9UJ0Q

Any ideas what may be causing this? I think it's really unlikely to be my setup. I'm using an official Nintendo RGB21 cable hooked into an XRGB-3. I've also hooked it up to a Framemeister with the same result. I haven't seen this with any of my other consoles including a Super Famicom with the same cable setup. I've also tried two different AC adapters (Super Famicom one and Hori one for AV Famicom) with no difference.

Because mass produced cables are cheap and easy to find rather than custom never-before-seen ones.

I was talking with jep about the issue he's having and I'm thinking that his problem could be caused by that clone PPU I used for the installation. Perhaps those clone PPUs are a little more susceptible to interference than the original?

Just ordered a replacement NES PPU, I'll see if it makes a difference when it arrives (fingers crossed).

Would the female on the NES be wired up just the same as a standard Genesis 2 plug then? Or a Saturn plug, since apparently that would work too?

Not sure if this will work yet and since you live in the UK you might not be able to buy. But I am looking at the following type scheme:
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch ... 1927427226
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch ... 1927427226
For the NESRGB. Of course in different sizes etc., but there are a ton to choose from at digikey.
Then for the Helder connector I am looking at one of the top ones here. Still not decided:
http://www.digikey.com/product-search/e ... ageSize=25

I haven't tried these yet to know that they do work and if they don't I hope someone will let me know.

So I get a black screen.

And I notice that the NESRGB voltage regulator is getting warm. Is this normal?

Audio works
I get +5V on the RGB connector
I get +5V on the NESRGB pin
I get no voltage from GND to +5V on the NESRGB voltage regulator.

Is there anything else I can do?

I just turned "off" the NESRGB and used the composite connection. It works perfectly.

Could I have fried my RGBNES? Audio works, but no viadeo... I soldered the J5 too (NTSC)

I am using the GBS-8220

A Saturn AV cable won't fit in a Genesis 2/3 AV port (10 pins vs. 9).

I have a SLG-In-A-Box. It uses a GBS-8220.
I have zero issues with any of the units I've modded.

Have you set the J5 & J3 jumpers?

Do you have an older batch board? Was the firmware upgraded?

Can you take pictures? Maybe one of us here could spot a problem.

EDIT***

You state you are using a GBS-8220. How are you plugging into it? Are you using a sync strike with it?
The GBS-8220 uses RGBHV. Not RGB+Composite.

The J3 jumper is to not use the voltage regulator, correct?

I have tried shorting J3 and J5, doesn't work
I have tried shorting J5 only, doesn't work

I'll add pictures in a minute.

I also tried PPUV wired directly to the connector and it didn't work.

You state you are using the GBS-8220.

How are you feeding it the video signals?
Are you using a sync stripper?
