What [not shmup] game are you playing now?

Anything from run & guns to modern RPGs, what else do you play?

ha ha, the quote about enhasa here

and yeah fuck the ninja dogs. gotta find a strategy for them. obviously attack them in the back, but I get fucked if I dash behind things and then there's the lag before I can turn. Maybe I need to wait for them to try attacking?

really don't like this game much but when it is good, it is grand!

it would have impressed the hell out of me back in 2002 for sure.

oh, and I'm playing without shuriken, of course. C ranks all the way.

Strider 3 (see avatar!) is almost done, prolly gonna import the PS3 one now. after that, i'm not sure, ive a few rainy day JRPGs between Bravely Default, SMT IV & others, but i should really tie up Albert Odyssey since i left off towards the end.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. I doubt I have the patience to grind myself to max level and face penance, but its cool that the option is there.

Been getting into Dead or Alive 5, kind of seriously. It's a really solid game, light-years ahead of all the versions before it. The series has a bad reputation though, and it's not doing itself any favors with the way it's marketed. Nothing can compare to the fluidity of it though.

...playing Mercenary Kings right now on PS4.

It's for free for Plus-subscribers and as retro as they come visual-wise.
Wonder why it's not mentioned anywhere on this board (or maybe i haven't looked the right places). It's really fun once you got the hang of it.

Metal Slug with weapon-mods... somehow. Highly recommended.

Finished Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea 1&2. Some really good stuff as far as narrative goes, some pretty decent stuff as far as gameplay goes. Ep. 2 is pretty much Dishonored: Rapture Edition, which I don't really mind so much, because it was handled very well. RIP, Irrational Games. Now to go replay the Dishonored DLC....

Tales of Symphonia Mania mode. PS3 version, so it's based on the harder PS2 version.

Transferred Ex skills, Ex gems, Titles, +500 HP, recipes, the item/monster/figurine/world map info and a few other minor things like tech usage count. Didn't have enough for experience multiplier, techs, or gald.

I've gotten the wooden sword related title, but I'm still going for the no deaths title, the no in battle use of gels title, and the no escapes title. With the no healing items in battle and forced reset upon character death, it's still pretty challenging since I couldn't afford an experience multiplier with the amount of grade I had. I can't wait until I can drop these restrictions and the mode becomes a lot easier due to that. Maybe if I had taken combo experience since I've gotten several 20 or 30 hit combos on some of the bosses and some 60/70 on some other bosses, but I figured those parts where you have to fight alone or in a group of 2 or something would make it impossible to level up with combo experience, so i didn't take it, and I wouldn't want to be getting 1 experience for any battle with less than 10 hits.

I'm not looking forward to the next boss I have to fight with these restrictions since it's a 3 v 4, though at least I have 3 Paralysis Charms for lightning resist for it. I'm not even sure what party I should bring. I know Kratos and/or Raine will be a must since I'm going to need healing. I pretty much mained Lloyd during my first playthrough, but I've been maining Colette on this one so far. Not sure what level i could reasonably get to before this fight, but I am highly considering some level grinding.

I remember back around '96 when Legacy of Kain Blood Omen came out I wanted to play it but at the time everyone was moving away from 2D and into exploring 3D worlds so I totally forgot about it. I recently picked it up on the PSN and to my surprise it's a really enjoyable game. I also recently picked up Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I wrote the series off back around Tekken 2 but now I can say that it's the best fighter I've played since SFIV. Lots of moves and technique to learn but it's very satisfying.

That's a given, vanilla pushed the series mechanics forward by lightyears, and Ultimate made it squeaky clean.

Tag 2 is a really great game, probably the best in series, though I'm a bit partial to DR. It's amazing that despite how terrible the new mechanics were in 6 they made them work beautifully in T2.

KOF2002 [Neo-Geo/MAME].
Wrecked a few friends today. Haven't played in forever, decided to fire it up, some of my buddies decided to come and play and we did.

and damn, I'm starting to have quite a bit of fun playing Yuri
that air fireball is great, also nailing people who are waking up and get greedy [eg, they're busy doing shit/jumping in shortly after wakeup] with a haoh-shoukouken is so great [it does bother me when I do the super motion like I'm playing another Kyokugen practitioner and remember that it's a charged normal for her in 2002]

I was frustrated a bit at first having the timer on levels, made me feel like I had to go fast when in reality the timer is very generous. I tried to play it faster like Metal Slug and got my ass whooped from reloading. Once I slowed down the game felt pretty good.

You should play some 2k2 UM, Yuri is an absolute beast in it. These days I pretty much only play vanilla 2k2 when I want to pretend I'm Tetsuo.

I'm still hoping for a Steam release which may probably never come. Siiiigh.

When I'm not getting slaughtered in DFK BL, I'm getting slaughtered by my wife in Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo.

This game is seriously underrated, vs mode is a ton of fun!

In a similar vein try the Puyo Puyo games in VS. My all-time favorite VS puzzler. The one I played most was on the dreamcast but there is also Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Genesis and ports to the PS2, iOS, etc.

GGXXAC+R [360].

I think my Xtokki is dying/needs a new cable. Doesn't get recognized by my PC at all anymore, and on the 360 I was playing on, it was a bit flaky if you moved it around.

also, we discovered the joys of Team Battle (read: KOF mode, even has meter carrying over KOF-style)
I need to practice a character other than Millia. I've picked up May and I need to practice with Ky so I don't suck.

cute things: apparently it counts as a perfect if you heal back all the damage dealt after defeating a character

Ah man. Puyo Puyo is boss as hell.

If you're playing any MD version of the game, play Puyo Puyo Tsuu. Mean Bean Machine/Puyo Puyo 1 can be decimated completely (if you're good) due to high-combos being unavoidable death for your opponent (due to there being no garbage counter mechanic).

I've been playing Prikura Daisakusen again. Last night, for the first time ever, I managed to single credit up to the stage 5 boss (prior, the furthest I'd been able to get was the stage 3 boss). The SCC is now looking possible... just gotta try to keep from dieing too often before the final battle (because Flash The All loves to litter the play area with loads of crap).

Played Mercinaries on the xbox for the first time in months, and have come back to loving the game. Though I'm also in the mood to play through an RPG from the PS1 era.

Guilty Gear XX #Reload [PC].

was bored, other people were playing on the 360 at my university so we couldn't play AC+R at the time
Man, I forgot how much shit doesn't work here. Also, it feels a bit slower. A few friends liked the differences.

man, I do miss how clean the HUD looked and the sexier backgrounds, but I'd rather have AC+R mechanics

Apparently though, GGXrd is based pretty heavily on this revision. True?

Sort of. The character move sets are similar (more simplistic/ less moves) but the new cancel mechanics and slower pacing make Xrd a totally new beast imo. #R is still closer to +R than it is to Xrd if you ask me. Personally I'm not feeling Xrd when I could be playing +R instead, but that's partially because I don't fully understand the new mechanics (and probably won't until the console version hits). I'll withhold judgement on it until I can really dig into it.

The GB Puyo Puyo 1 is especially worth avoiding since it plays slow and makes the pieces hard to tell apart on a b/w GB. Puyo Puyo Tsuu is a much better port and makes the pieces easy to tell apart, similar to how Dr. Mario makes the shades easy to tell apart on a b/w GB.
