Battle Garegga: SAT vs PCB differences
What (if any) differences are there in the pcb and saturn version sof Garegga? I had heard the saturn version is less glitchy graphically than the pcb, but does anyone with both know of any differences outside that?

I was looking for a Battle Garegga PCB on ebay, found one, noticed it was a Casey, and my hopes were properly dashed.
Feedback will set you free.

It should be mentioned right off that it's unplayable in MAME due to game-breaking input lag.
Only graphical difference I've noticed is the tanks in level 1 being better on the PCB. But I don't much care about graphics.
The other major con is the brief but still present loadtimes between levels. If only it had been a ramcart game. PS2 port plz.
Otherwise you've got easier selection of Golden Bat (set say R to A+B+C), better control, arrange soundtrack, superplay, stage select, extra chars. selectable with a code, redball option, soundtest option, lotta options in general, pause+pause menu, others that I'm forgetting. Basically it's a shit-load better and cheaper too.
I'm pretty sure the port allows for the china/denmark rank-free version too.

Can you two say, 1cc the game with this setup? Cause otherwise this isn't valid. Hell, even if you can, the lag makes things more difficult. It's present in Garegga, Batrider, and other games on the same hardware (toaplan2.c in mame). In a past thread as I recall Icarus (our resident Garegga expert) confirmed my suspicions (Saturn>PCB>>>>>>>>MAME in terms of control) and somebody else came through with the technical details, this isn't just some bullshit I'm making up. If someone can dig up the thread that'd be grand, can't find it with the search function.Fighter17 wrote:No problems playing with a PS2 pad on my computer thru MAME.AFXisatwin wrote:What are you on about Neon? So sadly the only proper way to enjoy Batrider is through playing the PCB, unless you want a laggy-controllin' piece a shit. Thankfully it and the Saturn port of Garegga are under $100 USD.
edit: and yes, bulletmagnet is right about the slowdown. I'm sure there's others. Just buy the port.

Well, I 1cc Batrider in Normal playing it Raine ... did Raine had the same problem?
But I do believe in you, I just can't tell the difference too much, I never played the PCB.
And about the Redball option... has anyone played Battle Garegga recently in a new mame version? The "Master" version of Garegga in Mame now is the "Denmark version", which I found to be really weird..... when I played it, I noticed this version plays like if it had the redball option turned on...

For Garegga, I've tried maybe ten different joypads in MAME, Raine etc and none of them have the responsiveness of the original PCB and Saturn port. And all of them have been USB joypads, before you ask. There is definitely some form of input lag that makes any Raizing game more difficult to play.

There are some subtle differences between the versions. A few sound effects seem changed or rerecorded but the bomb chip collection sound effect is the only one that's really completely altered.
Saturn version has been slightly bugfixed and altered as far as the scoring from the bird section goes and maybe in a few other places. I think it may be a little easier to get consistently high points from the birds on the Saturn. This is from the vgmaterials handbook:
The Saturn version has a slightly noticable restart of the music in midlevel just because it is playing off the CD and has no slowdown or flicker. On the PCB when a boss is exploding, your ship's sprite will disappear for about a 1/2 second.
I consider the Saturn's ability to assign different autofire rates to different buttons a bonus. That would take some work to rig the PCB the same way.
Personally, I prefer the PCB partly because I have an RGB monitor and nice joystick for my JAMMA setup, but there's no clear winner. The PCB will always be the original but Raizing did an absolutely amazing job with the port. If you really love this game you may end up getting both like I did (both have good resale value BTW). If not, just go with the one that best fits your budget, availability, home gaming setup etc.
Edit: Oh yeah, they also fixed the little bug where scores over ten million display differently on the high score screen than what the actual score was. I'll worry about that once I break ten mill.

In short, it's probably unfair to compare scores from both versions, but for our purposes on the forum I don't see any problem. However, I have to doubt that the really, really high level players in Japan would consider saturn scores the same as arcade scores.Concerning the bird
* Becoming the base of transplantation just debugs arcade edition a little the version
* Baseplate of ガレッガ compared to SS high performance
* Variation condition of random number differs in the ガレッガ baseplate and the SS
And so on with the reason, it is said whether is not, because the number of appearances of the bird and others け condition differs dangerously delicately in arcade edition and SS edition.

Well I had the chinese version of the pcb, thanks to Icarus, and it did indeed have a less severe ranking system. It also also had the red bullet mode on it, unfortunatly you could not gain lives with your score, so you only had one bonus 1up in the game. I changed the eproms to another software revision.

This is really not a big deal, the games are cheap, those who pirate already have a modded saturn anyways...why emulate when there are problems...

This is an exaggeration. As said above, there is input lag in raizing games - but it doesn't render them unplayable. I've 1cc bakraid and batrider on MAME using the keyboard and the lag was only barely noticible.Neon wrote:It should be mentioned right off that it's unplayable in MAME due to game-breaking input lag.
As have I, using USB controllers. The only Raizing game where lag is a problem is in Dimahoo. I believe it's lag that causes the floatiness that I feel.freddiebamboo wrote:This is an exaggeration. I can 1CC Garegga and Batrider thru MAME with a PS2 pad.Neon wrote:Can you two say, 1cc the game with this setup? Cause otherwise this isn't valid. Oh yeah, the Saturn version of Garegga has less slowdowns.
