The online social justice warriors aren't much different than any other political niche on the internet. It's really just another example of how the internet tends to amplify the voices of assholes. It's a shame because the most visible people with the most cartoonishly extreme positions are served up as representative of their respective interest group and it becomes easy for casual readers to develop shitty stereotypes about the people who refer to themselves as feminists or whatever. Not only that, but the echo chamber these people have created and insist on maintaining only serves to reinforce that image. Anyone who doesn't tread lightly and toe the ideological line (and forget about it if you are someone from OPPOSING TEAM) is viciously attacked. There was an interesting article on the Nation's website awhile back that's worth reading about how out of hand the situation has become in the online feminist community and how even people within the community don't feel like speaking up because they're scared of the vitriolic feedback the comes with even accidentally stepping out of line.
Feedback will set you free.

That was completely relevant to the story. The article attempts to sketch the history of social groups and ideology on the campus; it didn't say anywhere that beatniks lead to communism or whatever you seem to have imagined in the void left by your having not read any of the article seriously. If you don't want to read the article, fine, but please understand I want to do something else today than try to distill it for you because you have an incredibly thin skin and can't bear to read what is probably the most sane thing I've ever seen on the Weekly Standard.

If you want to just ignore anything that you don't like, feel free, but you're shortchanging your ability to understand issues or make reasonable comments.

^I explained quite clearly what I got from the Beatnik comment, twice. It comes off as scare-mongering as do the other examples I gave. It damages their argument, not my delicate feelings (nice baiting btw - not your usual style) because it makes the piece sound like over-exaggerated hysterical bullshit. Maybe the facts would stand out clearer if they weren't buttered up in this way.

And I'm not really trying to make a serious argument - this is a point-and-laugh thread.

All that shows is that you take it out of context and call it a symptom of some ideological undercurrent that really isn't in the article, while not allowing yourself to see the real point. Again, I think it's pretty laughable to call the phrase horrible-scare mongering. I just can't wrap my head around how pointing out that a place had a reputation for beatniks, a phrase used by beatniks themselves, counts as disrespectful or fear-mongering or whatever.

NPR used the very same b-word in an All Things Considered piece the year after the Weekly Standard (which, incidentally, speaks towards your concern with the use of the word, but answers what appears to be your main concern, that this is some kind of foreign conservative interference in the inner workings of the college):
LeBLANC: The college stands proudly as a progressive place, with a reputation of breeding beatnik, toxic, hippy, gay, New Age, vegan weirdoes. Though some of these monikers are embraced with pride here, student Julian Sharp says that Antioch's reputation is something of an exaggeration.

Mr. JULIAN SHARP (Student, Antioch College): It seem really difficult, I think, being here this year, because you've seen the university administration deface Antioch College in the media. Whether they're talking about the curriculum at Antioch College or the type of students that attend this college, it's so misinformed and it serves to perpetuate a negative image of the college and -towards the goal of getting rid of the college, from the university perspective.

LeBLANC: There have been seven Antioch College presidents in the past 12 years. One of them labeled the campus culture toxic. In 2004, the faculty was forced into a curriculum change without their input, and enrollment is down to 200 students from a high of over 1,200. Many, including former dean and professor Steve Schwerner, lay a big part of the blame on the governance structured by the umbrella university.
Is it still going to bug you when a '64 graduate of Antioch, writing for the college's own magazine, used it in his own account of the college "at the dawn of the sixties?"
The experience provided my first contact with American politics at ground level. Meanwhile, my Antioch roommate and fellow coder, Eric Knowles ’64, and I sought to construct a bohemian social life. [...] By now, Joan Baez was the rage among folk music fans who contrasted her pristine renditions of ancient British and southern American ballads with the commercialism of white pop culture. Accordingly, Eric and I spent most evenings pursuing interests in folk music and young women. We soon learned of a house where a mixed-race couple hosted hootenannies almost every night. The place was jammed with wispy beatnik college girls decked out in the black skirts, turtlenecks, fishnet stockings, and the white tennis shoes favored by Joan Baez. My awkward efforts to befriend one of these beauties came to little avail.
What it comes down to is this: I read the article, you didn't; why are we still having this discussion?

"Deathfat" is a term that means morbidly obese (BMI > 40). For instance, I'd have to weigh 240 lbs. Yikes, I'd be a walking blimp.

You'd think for normal human beings this would be a problem, but SJ fatties wear it as a badge of pride. Expect weight related health complications and early death!

Watching MRAs and Radfems go after eachother is quite hilarious, as none of them stand a chance of enacting any kind of real change .. they really do deserve eachother.

Randomly generating it kind of spoils the magic. For me, the real source of humour is that these are mostly adult or at least late-teenaged human beings who genuinely believe they're fighting a civil-rights battle of some description.

Can I just say, that I think the Hindenburg that was #CancelColbert was absolutely hilarious. Let's look at this:

-Twitter account not operated by the man it's for posts a joke MOCKING a racist cause. Context is needed to understand the joke, but it's not hard.
-Professional victim/overprivileged crybaby Suey Park gets offended.
-Even when directly apologized to by Colbert himself and explained the context showing the joke was IN favor of her cause, she continues her campaign.
-During an interview by Josh Zepp, not only does she show herself as the racist and sexist bigot she is on a much larger scale, she gets FUCKING exposed by Zepp.
-Colbert also makes her look like a jackass.
-David Letterman delegates Late Show over to Colbert at seemingly PERFECT timing.

So basically, Suey made herself look like a fucking idiot. And in all her efforts to ruin an innocent man's life, she not only failed like the Virtual Boy, but said man gets MORE successful.
The irony. The irony. The fucking bewildering irony. Too goddamn funny and it serves her tear spewing ass right.

Exactly how and when did the term "social justice" become conflated with political correctness?

Social justice? Why, I can't see a thing wrong with the concept as it has been defined for 100's of years. People whining and asking for the heads of those who offended through satire or public criticism? This was "political correctness" in the 90's. Why does it always seem people think what is happening is new and then misappropriate terms to describe them?

"Social networking" is another one. Yeah because before Facebook we all just stared at eachother blankly and went on with our business in complete solitude...

Around the same time "Online activism"/slacktivism became a thing.

As an aside, every time one of these goobers compares whining on the internet about gender representation in videogames to the civil rights movement, an angel loses it's wings. And yes, I have seen idiots do it. Poor angels. They never saw it coming.
