Chaos Field release date?
Anybody know exactly when Chaos Field for GCN is supposed to be released here in North America? Release date was supposed to be yesterday, but EB Games (here in Canada) is reporting it now as to be released on the 25th, Gamestop sometime in December, and Amazon.com is apparently already selling it! Anybody know (or care)?
EDIT: Oh, and hi! I'm new!

Yeah, here in the US, it was supposed to be released yesterday; I don't know what the deal is!Hamarskald wrote:Anybody know exactly when Chaos Field for GCN is supposed to be released here in North America? I don't even know what stores are carrying it; so I may just have to get it on Amazon, or even Ebay.

It looks like it keeps getting pushed back.

I wouldn't be suprised if it never makes it, but if and when it does, I'm totally there.

Lol... reminds me of when Bujingai kept getting pushed back. By the time it was finally released (after a few months and 4 delays), I'd listened to enough of Gackt's music to become a GACKT FANBOY. No shit. Just 'cuz he looks like a woman, doesn't mean the man can't sing.

Chaos field delayed again?! WHY GOD WHY!! Such a quality shmup!!! Such incredible gameplay and originality!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Has anyone gotten Chaos Field (US version) yet? Or "Choas Field" as Amazon calls it: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... s&n=507846
If so, where'd you buy it from and how is it?

I got the japanese Bujingai for $10 from Play Asia. Does the American version have all the extra videos of Gackt recording voices and music videos and stuff?Zweihander wrote:Lol... reminds me of when Bujingai kept getting pushed back. Um.... You can still find new copies of Alien Hominid (new + sealed) for NGC or PS2, at 9 out of 10 game stores....snap monkey wrote:Yeah, I've got Alien Hominid... after some serious store searching not long after it came out. Alien Hominid got a very limited release...

Back on topic...
EBGames have Chaos Field listed, but they are incapable of locking down a ship-date. For the past 3 days, the ship date has been today, meaning that the game would arrive tomorrow (on the 6th, they had it shipping on the 6th and arriving on the 7th... on the 7th, they had it shipping on the 7th and arriving on the 8th... on the 8th, they have it shipping on the 8th and arriving on the 9th).

$26 shipped, anyone interested. PM me.
Is it much different from the DC version (which I already have)...I mean different enough to warrant owning it for both systems?
If so, I might be interested in a copy.

Fight Like A Robot!
Yes, the US release of Chaos Field is merely a localized version of Chaos Field Expanded, which has the original Arcade Mode (present in both the NAOMI and DC versions) as well as the Expanded Mode (which adds a couple of waves of small enemies between the boss battles.. but aside from that, the game is still 5 levels).Neo Rasa wrote:I'm way out of the loop on this game, but I believe we're getting the "Chaos Field Expanded" version that has more actual levels instead of being comprised almost entirely of boss fights. I'm pretty sure the DC version is just that?
Or you can take a drive south to Fredericksburg. As of last week, Circuit City had a few copies for both the PS2 and GC. Can't guarantee they are still there, though.snap monkey wrote:Wierd, maybe I'll have to keep my eyes open for it next time I'm out. As for Chaos Field, I imagine this is going to be a reserve only title in my area. I've lucked into every other niche shooter title, buying either used or display copies of Ikaruga, Castle Shikigami 2, etc. About the only shooter titles I've bought new in the last two years are Gradius V & R-Type Final. I'm not taking a chance this time. I figure I'll be able to pick up a reserved copy of Choas Field on Wednesday or Thursday, considering that "release dates" are more like ship dates for all but the most popular titles.

No, I was talking about Alien Hominid for my fellow Northern Virginian. Sorry!Ghegs wrote:Eh? Benstylus:
As for the hoopla, it has more to do with the support of a North American release of a shooter title...any shooter title. Trust me, I don't think I will be wowed by Chaos Field, but I figure I will get as much play out of it as Castle Shikigami 2.

That's just what I don't get - supporting bad NA shooters will not necessarily result in good shooters coming over here. It will probably result in companies bringing more bad ones over, because the good ones may be labeled 'too hard' or 'too japanese'.al138 wrote:As for the hoopla, it has more to do with the support of a North American release of a shooter title...any shooter title. A bad game is a bad game whether it's in an underappreciated genre or not.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
And likewise, bringing over "good" shooters hasn't opened the floodgates for similarly "good" titles, either. Gradius V & Castle Shikigami 2 were two good titles that came out the last half of 2004 in North America. Even after Gradius V and CS2, North American release calendars are still quite devoid of shooters--good or bad. Until the buzz about Chaos Field, console shooter releases (not part of classic game anthologies) in NA have been non-existant in 2005.benstylus wrote:That's just what I don't get - supporting bad NA shooters will not necessarily result in good shooters coming over here. The only thing that gives me comfort is that developers are bringing these games over as budget titles, and to be quite honest, I have yet to play a truly bad budget shooter in recent years.
I honestly feel that something is better than nothing at this point.

"Bad game" here is pretty relative. There are people that love this game; obviously someone loved it enought to perform those amazing replays on the Super Play site. This isn't Planet Joker for Pete's sake. The only reasons why I'm getting the Cube release over the DC one is because it's cheaper then the DC one, and, IIRC, the slowdown was cleaned up.benstylus wrote:That's just what I don't get - supporting bad NA shooters will not necessarily result in good shooters coming over here. The genre does matter most, IMO. Shmups are not mainstream in the US, and they probably never will be again. It's a simple matter of business; if there is less demand for shmups over here, there will be less shmup ports over here. People here who expect gaming magazines and game publishes to cater to shmups like it's 1991 are being a little unrealistic, to say the least.
At any rate, I just called both Game Crazy and EBX this afternoon, and neither store even has a listing for this game, so I may just purchase it off of Ebay.
