Well, I think we're finally reaching a high water mark with this kind of faux-progressive posturing. More people are starting to realize these idiots aren't worth listening to, and backlash against perma-outrage is starting to appear. Ultimately, they will do far more harm than good to their own movements, but it won't be permanent damage (I hope).

Self-righteous indignation is a helluva drug. It'll never go away, but hopefully it'll eventually just turn into so much white background noise along with all the other internet lunatics nobody pays much attention to anymore.

There's something 'off' about bronies' eagerness to flood the internet with stories about how compassionate and progressive they are - seems fake in some way. Krooze L-Roy made a good point in the other thread about political correctness being inherently supremacist and that's what I'm reminded of here. I think its worth discussion but I don't want to see this thread derail into the widespread mockery of a crippled child.

If you actually wanted to tackle issues of entitlement and privilege, you'd need to open a thread with a serious theme. We discuss similar issues all the time - the international women's day debate had a wealth of opinions (and one ban!) but was generally intelligently argued by most involved.

Yeah, in fairness, while I disagree with many of the viewpoints posted on shmups regarding social justice, feminism, etc, I can definitely appreciate the the level conversation, and I think that most people post in the spirit of civilised discourse. I actually broke my cardinal rule of never arguing politics on the Internet (that's what drinking from 3pm will do ), and honestly, I don't know that I could be bothered to regularly engage with a thread even if I was to start one. I love these kind of debates face to face, but I find arguing on the Internet very draining.

Their numbers may be small, but they're heavily concentrated in the nerd/geek sector of society, where a fair number of us exclusively reside. For me, personally, since I don't drink anymore and never got into the bar/sports scene, I run into few women for whom most of these misappropriated or made up terms aren't commonly used in casual conversation.

They're pretty much the direct analogue to the cheeto-infested gamer manchild stereotype. Most live with their parents rent and bill free, even into their 30s. They take occasional part time jobs because their parents are too cruel to give them extra spending money. They openly treat their bodies and minds like shit, because their big plan is to kill themselves by the time they're 40 since "being old sucks anyway". They're so used to being treated like princesses that they have no empathy for anything anymore.

They are the pure embodiment of privilege, and this is where the whole bullshit part comes from. They want to prove so hard that they aren't privileged that they design and self diagnose brand new mental illnesses for themselves, fight "on behalf of" underprivileged people, claim they're such a special snowflake that we should give them attention and feel sorry for them instead of the people they claim to support, including the people for whom having a place to live is the least of their problems.

I hate it all, and I hate how it's turning me into the misogynist I'd hoped I would never become.

It is also wrong that Movember aims to link masculinity and being a man to secondary male characteristics, including having a prostate and being able to grow a moustache. To be completely clear, you don’t have to be a man to have a prostate, and you don’t have to have a prostate to be a man. Being a man, according to Movember, implies an archaic view of gender that implies that only a male/female gender binary exists, and that you aren’t really a man if you don’t necessarily identify with that binary. One reason it took me such a long time to get away from PIV and realise that it was destructive was precisely because I thought it procured me those “orgasms”. Believing that I enjoyed it despite the unease, fear and shame I always felt, and the fact I thought I had no other option, I never stopped seeking it until it became painful again, but that’s when I noticed that the dude didn’t stop, he continued regardless and didn’t care whether I enjoyed it or not.
