I'd agree with that, but this thread is really only to shame idiots for misappropriating concepts, or else I'm not sure moh would have called it the Social Justice 'bullshit' thread.

If you actually wanted to tackle issues of entitlement and privilege, you'd need to open a thread with a serious theme. We discuss similar issues all the time - the international women's day debate had a wealth of opinions (and one ban!) but was generally intelligently argued by most involved.

And don't worry, I was following the International Women's Day thread closely. He bought himself a ticket off the boat rather quickly in the grand scheme of things! Although my issue wasn't necessarily with his banning, but the reason for his banning. Sometimes I wonder where the line is drawn, but Spadgy said they were inundated with prior complaints, so that confirms the reasoning.

I'm all for an actual social justice debate: if you want to open one, go for it. I'll follow your lead.

The Key & Peele piece is amazing. Proof that comics aren't just failed philosophers or politicians really. Everybody else (including a lot of the people who are "fighting back" against the "liberal outrage machine") needs to take a step back and find what really matters - in other words, they've all got their heads up each others' asses. But not Key & Peele! They've pretty well diagnosed everything briefly, here, I think.

A couple things they didn't quite reach, though:
- There's not only the kind of nuanced bullying they reflect, but the rather more obvious form of bullying where people refuse to talk about nuanced issues, because "those are settled" and instead we're all supposed to spend our time marching in the Hatred Purification Inquisition, purging evil (well, we're not supposed to believe in evil...un-mutual, maybe?) thoughts from the public discourse of others.

- It's interesting to note how quickly comedy came on the heels of obvious unmitigated racism and other tragedies. Perhaps some of the outrage really represents the awakening of a new political force, or an attempt to create one, to force the hand of those who would continue old inequalities.

p.s. the stuff about headmates is interesting. Every now and then I ran across some artist who attached some ridiculously idiotic rambling under a piece, but I see that deliberately skipping out on the social media 'net hasn't been bad for my well-being at all.
