Hey guys. Is it possible to make a SNES to 8 pin mini din cable? I have an XRGB mini and live in the US. Going from snes to euro scart, to a switch, to a euro scart RGB21 adapter, to an RGB21 8 pin mini din adapter etc. seems like a lot of extra stuff I don't need here. I also have a NESRGB modded nes, a N64, and a gamecube, so I would like to streamline this.
So
1. Is it possible to create a NTSC SNES male to male 8 pin mini din for the XRGB mini?
2. If so, how difficult would it be? Most of the parts would seem to be easily purchased at digikey and hacking an SNES cable.
3. Has anyone done this and are there any wiring diagrams that would be useful?
Thanks
Can you make a NTSC SNES to 8 pin mini din cable

Outside of Japan retro console RGB cables seem to have standardized on SCART. As you already seem to have a SCART AV cable one of the following may be of interest:coffeyrt wrote:Going from snes to euro scart, to a switch, to a euro scart RGB21 adapter, to an RGB21 8 pin mini din adapter etc. seems like a lot of extra stuff I don't need here.
Micomsoft XRGB Mini Passive adapter for Euro SCART to XRGB Mini 8 pin
Micomsoft XRGB Mini Sync booster for Euro SCART to XRGB Mini 8 pin
European SCART to Framemeister XRGB Mini Converter adapter
European SCART to Framemeister XRGB Mini Converter adapter with built in LM1881N sync stripper
That would eliminate the SCART to RGB21 cable - the SCART selector is a convenience when you have more than one console feeding into the XRGB-mini but as such isn't necessary if you are willing to manually change the connection when you want to use a different console - managing the connection via the intermediate SCART may reduce the wear and tear on the SNES and XRGB-mini AV sockets. If your SNES works through the stock XRGB-mini RGB21 adapter then you shouldn't need the additional Sync Booster/LM1881N (it's unlikely that you will need it). Some people simply rewire the stock XRGB-mini RGB21 adapter to the SCART spec.
Micomsoft: XRGB-mini RGB21
XRGB wiki: General RGB21
GameSX: SCART
In case you are still looking at wiring your own - some pin outs:
GameSX: SNES/N64/GameCube MultiAV connector
GameSX: Micomsoft XRGB-mini Framemeister
Due to their size Mini-DIN 8 connectors are supposed to be a pain to work with. And it seems that some connectors that are sold as Mini-DIN 8 are off-spec and won't fit.
Furthermore "regular" SNES AV cables (i.e. composite video) may neither have the necessary contacts on the multi-AV connector nor the necessary wires in the cable.

Re: Can you make a NTSC SNES to 8 pin mini din cable
Thanks for the response HydrogLox. I see your point on the SNES cables not having all of the connections. I was wondering that, and that would be a bit of a hindrance. I don't yet have the euro scart cables and am wondering if I should invest in those and everything else, when doing something else makes more sense... plus I love to tinker more than I love to connect two wires together
.
If I was to try and pull the signal from the consoles themselves and connect this to a female 8 pin mini din, essentially create another output on the back of the snes etc. that would allow a straight 8 pin mini din cable to connect to the xrgb-mini , would I need the 220uf capacitors on the red, green, blue signal? Will doing any of this wrong screw up my xrgb-mini? Will I be getting over my head and have to be boosting signal etc, or would this be fairly straight forward for someone with a little bit of experience?

Re: Can you make a NTSC SNES to 8 pin mini din cable
I'd suggest that you get a SNES RGB SCART cable and a SCART XRGB-mini adapter first - so that you
- Can enjoy your new setup ASAP.
- Have a working setup to compare to before you start tinkering.
