NESRGB Board Installed using xrgb-mini no video have sound

Post by Deka »

Hi,

I followed Tim's directions on how to connect the NESRGB on a front loader NES.
I get sound but can't get video.

The only display with a scart adapter is the xrgb-mini which works great with everything else.

Does anybody have a good picture to send me on how they wired up their nesrgb?

I checked the PPU and I have +5v on the NES RGB.

I wired the 8pin DIN like the diagram as well.

I do get video out of the composite jacks on the side of the front loader nes.

Any help would be great. This is driving me crazy.

When you turn the NES on, does the 'Input' light on the XRGBMINI light up?

Just soldered the S-video connection and connected it to a TV.
It works. Looked really good too.

So now I know my nesrgb works.

I think I need help getting this to work with the xrgb-mini.
Maybe its a sync issue or I don't have something wired correctly.

I have yet to figure out how the video switch gets wired....

Any help would be great.

OK,

I soldered the pin 3 of the 8 pin din to CS# Composite Sync.

I increased the SYNC level on the XRGB-Mini to 24 and the input light turned on. I have a picture!

But.........

Its shaky. Hard to describe, but like like every second it bounces up and down a bit with some static.

Any help would be great.

Use PPUV instead of sync - original PPU video instead of the EL1881 sync stripped signal that isn't right on the second batch of kits. Sync compatibility varies upon the particular console you've installed the kit into.

Does your SCART adapter have a sync-stripper installed in it? Is it getting power from the NES? That was the issue with mine, once I attached the 5v line from the NESRGB to the SCART connector, all worked out.

Can you post a picture of the sync stripper?

I did put the 5v line on the 8 pin din. I had it connected to PIN 5.

Did you use Tom's cable?

I'm at work right now, but it's just a small IC circuit containing a LM1881N stuffed inside the SCART housing. I'm talking about the SCART cable to the XRGB-mini. I got my cables from retrogamingcables.com.

According to the RGB connector guide on Tim's site, your 5v line should be going to Pin 5 on the din connector:
http://etim.net.au/nesrgb/rgb_connector.htm

What SCART cable are you using to connect to your mini? If you do have a sync-stripper installed in the SCART, I'd meter pin 8 on your SCART cable and see if you're getting the 5v to power it. If you don't have a stripper in there, then I don't know what the problem is.

What NES are you installing this on? Front loader?

Hi,

I'm using a front loader.
And I also bought my SCART to JPN21 cable from retrogames on ebay.

I did put +5v on the pin 5 but I'll double check and meter it today.

I'll get back to you.

OK,

So I checked the xrgb-mini scart cable and there is indeed a chip in there!
I had no idea it was there.

On the other side I did NOT get 5v on pin 8.
I get 12V.

Tim's SCART cable has a PCB soldered in there.
I think it follows the SCART SPEC maybe?

I can follow the Red/Green/Blue signals. I found the 5 V lead. I also found ground and audio L and audio R (Although they are the same technically)

Yeah, that's the problem I was getting. Without power to that sync-stripper, it's acting like a resistor not allowing it to pass the sync properly.

Did you use Tim's Cable?

Or should I just make my own and pass the 5v to pin 8?

Should I just follow this diagram?

I'm using a multiAV port, using an snes SCART cable connected to a Euro SCART cable for my XRGB-mini. I opted for a multiAV to have everything more nintendo'y ;)

Solved: NESRGB Board Installed using xrgb-mini no video

Post by Deka »

Hi,

I want to thank everyone that has helped me with the NESRGB board yesterday.

I got it to work!

There is a PCB in Tim's cable that was interfering with the xrgb-mini.

I sacrificed a SNES scart cable because I could not desolder that chip from the scart cable.

I soldered the correct signals according to this diagram.
http://www.leadsdirect.co.uk/wp-content ... rtdiag.gif

I also added the +5v to pin 8 of the SCART cable to power the sync stripper in my xrgb-mini SCART cable I bought from retro_games on ebay.

Low and behold, I had video. Everything worked and oh so pixel perfect. It looked amazing.

So, I just wanted to say Thank You all for helping me. You went out of your busy day to help a stranger on the internet.
