Louisville Arcade Expo

Post by MommysBestGames »

The Louisville Arcade Expo just finished a few weeks ago and there's a wrap-up video released which prompted me to mention the show here.

It's a free-play type show, in which owners from the around the area (and some from far away apparently) bring in cabinets and pinball machines. I think around 100 total (cabs, pinball) were there. It's not a giant show, but there's a pretty good amount to play.
Warning: At least so far, few shmups are there. Some fighters, lots of classic stuff, and a good selection of pinball.
This is the games list for the most recent show:

There was a Varkon to play, which is pretty rare (only 90 of them made). It's not terribly fun, but was really neat to see in person, with the titled mirror perspective.

Here's the wrap video:

It's on the pinball circuit, so it's a big deal with pinball players and they have the official competition going on in a corner area the whole time.

There's also two sizeable rooms with old consoles and console-likes. Plenty of older machines I'd never seen in person and most of them are playable (a few were on the fritz but you can find someone to try to get them going again). All of them had a game in there ready to play. For instance, I'd never seen an "Action Max" before.. it wasn't good, but I still found it interesting to try out.

Speaking again of few shmups, though, I'd never played Dragon Sabre before, but dang--it was nice! They had the PC Engine running one room and I got to play few levels. I liked all the crazy monster designs.

We actually were a vendor there, showing our most recent games too. I wrote some more about it with some pictures if you'd like: http://mommysbest.blogspot.com/2014/03/ ... -2014.html

If you're ever in the area, it's a fun show to attend.
Making a run 'n' gun with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .
