Playstion model 1001 s-video out mod?

Post by BazookaBen »

The very first models of the ps1 in japan had a separate s-video output:

I recently acquired the US scph-1001 model, which has the separate composite and audio outs, but no s-video. Anybody know if it's possible to add it myself, if the solder points are still there from the 1000 model?

I know I can still get s-video from the multi-out, I'm just curious if the motherboard is unchanged from the 1000. It'd be cool to hook it up like a legit piece of A/V equipment.

I just looked at some pics of the SCPH-1002 and it looks like the solder points for the S-vid jack are still there, so there's a good chance the SCPH-1001 does as well. I'm not sure if the jack uses a standard pin arrangement though.

It's so easy to find an AV cable with s-video on it for PS1/2/3, why would you want to go to the trouble of hacking the case and adding a jack?

Thanks! I have an S-video jack from a dead video card that I'll throw in there.

I'm mad that they dropped the port in the US so I'm taking it back!

One advantage of having a dedicated S-video jack is that you can use any cable you want, a lot of PS1/2/3 cables aren't exactly high quality whereas there's plenty of high quality shielded S-video cables floating around.

Yeah, lots of small reasons like this. Can also make for easy switching to most dreamcast VGA boxes.

I don't want to stop you from modding your console, but you can get a good S-Video cable for less than $7 on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/301117678534

Ultimately, my playstation is slightly less cool than the coolest playstation, so I have to mod it. I need to swap the laser in it anyway.

While you're at it, you could add the PS-IO directly to the motherboard and open a hole for an SD slot in the case. That would give you one of the coolest Playstations :D
