Playing a cave shmup on iPhone, only to miss the bomb button when you wanted to bomb. Fuck virtual buttons, why can't they map the buttons to override the volume buttons or something? :/
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I reckon that would be against Apple regulations and standards.

Apple's a shit company for a variety of reasons, including their insanely locked-down hardware.
Why is port forwarding so difficult for people to figure out? There's literally hundreds of guides you can easily follow online unless you're totally computer illiterate, why can't anyone be bothered to figure it out and rely on others for hosting games?

The fact that cave shmups on mobile devices have perfect touch controls yet lack any kind of support for bluetooth controllers.

Geico's current painting ads are infinitely moronic and obnoxious. In fact, it makes me wonder if Americans ads are more annoying than ours.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I've never tried it. But it seems to me to be unmappable. I'm on a rooted android phone, and I just couldn't figure out a way to get their apps to work with a controller. Sad really, because touch based 1:1 controls make their games way too easy.BitFaced wrote: Including Cydia's Blutrol?

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
At least their other more recent ads like the one with the M&M are better. It's frustrating how one of the worst car insurance companies has some of the best ads. esurance's newest ads about them taking only 7 minutes are pointless and annoying.BitFaced wrote: Geico's current painting ads are infinitely moronic and obnoxious. Man, I miss seeing the Erin ads. These "7 minute" ones are super-weak.BrianC wrote:At least their other more recent ads like the one with the M&M are better. I envy your local tv station commercials, those are almost inexistant in europe so the chances of seeing gold like Chuck Testa are zero.BrianC wrote:At least their other more recent ads like the one with the M&M are better. How do you think such subpar companies end up doing as well as they do?It's frustrating how one of the worst car insurance companies has some of the best ads.

Oh yeah, I came into that thinking it was just another M&Ms ad, but was pleasantly surprised.BrianC wrote:At least their other more recent ads like the one with the M&M are better.BitFaced wrote: Geico's current painting ads are infinitely moronic and obnoxious. I was almost asleep and I heard a loud noise, like something fell.
I went downstairs to check it out and my dishwasher was on fire. Wtf! Smoke and flames were coming out of the control panel.
Got it put out by killing the electrical breaker but I'm guessing this is going to be a pain in the ass. I see there are class action suits vs Whirlpool in the US and Canada already.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
The dishwasher here (Kitchen Aid brand, but really a Whirlpool) has had all kinds of slowly developing panel light issues, and three of the six screw-mount posts for that panel have broken. Still works like a champ. Luck of the draw I guess. (Need to order a replacement panel sometime and put it in, then I can have fun looking at the stuff in the old panel / keep the parts in reserve.)brentsg wrote:I was almost asleep and I heard a loud noise, like something fell.

Little things that annoy me:
The fact that cave are not making shmups.
Autobomb in shmups
Games that don't reset score on continue
When pop gaming reviewers try and review a shmup
Games for Windows live...
When my dishwasher catches fire (my condolences dude)

Well, not exactly this. Replace shit with piss and you're golden.

Doesn't irritate me that much, but I wish random strangers stopped sending me equally random, pointless videos on Youtube. They're not even loaded with spam links. Are they trying to bait me into starting a conversation with them and then show me whatever "dating" website they're peddling?
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Are there no Japanese nerdy message boards that are actually legible? Where are the avatars and quote functions and snarky gifs? Why are they all this eyesore 2ch junk?

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
^^^^^ For some reason Google Translate is refusing to translate 2ch for at the moment, which means I have to suffer the indignity of Logsoku.

When you start to really love a game designer, then find out he's been dead for over 15 years
It's so unfair... Stricken down in his prime
I feel really sad about it for some reason. I wish I could find any info on how he died, it'd be nice to know if he went out peacefully
Tsutomu Fujisawa, game designer for most of UPL's games.
Maybe this isn't so much "annoy the hell out of" as "makes me sad as fuck" though.

Doors/stairs in RPGs where if you're holding the direction you entered in, you will go back out/down.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
When the devs deal with them by making your character stop completely after entering any door/staircase, forcing you to input the direction you want to go again, can be as annoying.null1024 wrote:Doors/stairs in RPGs where if you're holding the direction you entered in, you will go back out/down.
There are so many small and subtle things that can make you waste so much time -- or worse, turn your brain back on -- in jrpgs it's not even funny.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
All stairs should point north, obviously.null1024 wrote:Doors/stairs in RPGs where if you're holding the direction you entered in, you will go back out/down.
I think the related problem in fixed-camera games is more of a problem because lol, you can die. Many of those games (Resident Evil, Onimusha) are pretty good about maintaining your character's world-space vector instead of changing it to screen-relative movement, but if you move the stick a little you can shoot off in an unintentional direction.
Actually, with a screen fade the instant-exit by holding a button down could maybe be beneficial if you wanted to toggle between two screens quickly in an RPG. But beyond that I don't imagine there's really any reason to get a lead thumb when changing areas...
