I haven't had the time or energy for music in several months
But playing ESWAT: City Under Siege inspired me to make my own jazzy super-cop tune for the Sega Genesis:
Mega Cop: Mean Streets
For some reason, it doesn't sound right on my shitty laptop speakers, but sounds better on my phone's headphone jack.

I finally bought Renoise after years of using the demo. The 3.0 beta is so fucking good! I can't wait until 3.0 stable comes out [so I can worry less about it savaging all of my source files].
sadly, I'm just awful at music -- this entry will almost certainly get replaced once I can throw something better together

It's got an interesting feel to it. The droning/pulsing bass thing is a neat way of driving the piece.beatsgo wrote:Finding myself having a big itch to learn how to compose music. Threw myself in LMMS and created this
You'll naturally learn more about using the program of your choice as time goes on. I can suggest to you that it's good to vary up the volumes of your instruments - the piece sounds a little flat and it's hard to make out the melody with everything hitting dead center at mostly the same volume. Panning and volume changes will do wonders in giving some dynamism to a musical piece. I know this because I did the same thing in my early pieces before I got better with the program (for me, Fruity Loops Studio).

Yah Linux MultiMedia Studio is starting to click alot more, though I wish some of the manual adjustment on group of notes were a little easier. But thanks for the advice.EmperorIng wrote:It's got an interesting feel to it. sup, everyone. I just released a set of dark, moody hip hop instrumentals. they've got a soundtrack-y vibe IMO.
give it a listen: http://opsfromchi.bandcamp.com
I've lurked for a while, but it's funny that my first post on this site isn't game-related at all, heh. although, you all may recognize some sounds I stuck into the last track
genomcorp, I'm diggin' your stuff and dub techno is not my thing at all.

EDIT: almost done the album, this is really good. I'm going to grab all your stuff when I get home from work. I've been doing some hiphop shit again lately, might actually upload some new stuff in the near future.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm hearing some Guwange coin grabbing samples on the last track

I primarily use an MPC 2000 (still!) together with Logic. I'm curious about the Maschine, tho, because my workflow from MPC to laptop and back has gotten kinda laborious. That and the MPC is frickin' heavy—no good for a nomad like me. Any Maschine users in the house?

Re: Your new music thread **formerly 'Music Production Threa
Nice. I'm currently using an MPC2500 in conjunction with Ableton live 9(mainly just for mixdowns) and all of my hardware synths. On my second 2500, and had a 1000 before I jumped up to the 2500. I've actually got Maschine MKII as well(shelved for now and gone back to the 2500), which I bought when I sold my last 2500 thinking I would love Maschine - in the end, as cool as Maschine is, it allows too many options and I get bogged down same as I do with totally ITB productions. I find with the MPC's, I get right down to it and actually do stuff much quicker; I tend to fiddle and mess around with shit in Maschine more than I actually finish anything.options wrote:thanx, manjonny5 wrote: Really digging this! One thing to consider as well, especially coming from an older MPC, Maschine doesn't really 'color' your samples the way an MPC does, it just sounds too clean. You have a similar style to what I generally do hip hop wise so it is something to be aware of if you like your current sound.
YMMV, but for me, I've found I just prefer pure hardware with software for recording and mixing down.

your first point is something I can really relate with. a lot of times, limitations are good for both creativity and productivity. I was probably a lot quicker at finishing tracks and moving on when I was on the MP and only used the computer for sequencing n' stuff.jonny5 wrote: as cool as Maschine is, it allows too many options and I get bogged down same as I do with totally ITB productions. and the coloring samples thing is something I never considered. hmmm.... got some decisions to make. not that I mind being different, but I do kinda feel like a dinosaur on this big box, haha

Re: Your new music thread **formerly 'Music Production Threa
You could pick up a used MPC1000 for around the same price or less versus buying Maschine new, and coming from a MPC2000 it would be a HUGE upgrade, and gives you a much nicer tie in with the computer(USB transfers, etc.). If you sold your 2000, you would probably only need $100-200 cash on top to get a used 1000. Avoid the blue models though, they have pad issues. Go for a black model, or if you do get a blue one, haggle them down and drop the $50 bucks on the pad upgrade. Also, the hardware MPC's(1000, 2500, 5000) were just recently discontinued, so you could possibly find a really good deal on a new one from stores blowing out their stock.options wrote:your first point is something I can really relate with. a lot of times, limitations are good for both creativity and productivity. Something else to consider, if you buy Maschine, you immediately lose a ton if you decide to resell because its a hassle to change ownership on the software, which is most of what you are paying for.

Not sure how many around these parts like Ambient music, but I took part in a VA release recently for a nice cause. The link includes a link to the release. A fantastic release where a lot of artists really stepped up in memorial for the girl.

Here's a little something I made out of boredom. Album length, made over the last 2 days. Completely inconsistent mixing. Enjoy.
It's a little jungle/oldschool rave thing made by chopping tiny samples out of rave tracks from 1992-1996 and then futzing around with Renoise.

Here's a little track I did for a friendly competition on the vintage synth explorer forum. The entire track had to be made with just one DCO(digitally controlled oscillator) synth, including percussion, and only a total of 2 effects used. I did it with a Roland Juno106. Was pretty fun making it.

EDIT: seems I won

I finished up a tune last night and managed to finish up an album I've been working on for nearly 4 years in some form or another. Something Downtempo/IDM or whatever you'd like to call it. https://soundcloud.com/lilmanjs/shades- ... g-coldness

Re: Your new music thread **formerly 'Music Production Threa
A new set, quite different from my previous ones.
I wanted to do something in the style of the Balance series, inspired by guys like James Holden, Lee Burridge, Omid 16B, etc. Progressive and sometimes trance-y, but still with a lot of drive and an electronic edge to it.
Also that ridiculously epic mix GaijinPunch did a while ago
http://i.mixcloud.com/CHYgja
1. Peyote (Original Mix) by Butch & Hohberg
2. Follow Me (Original Mix) by Andrez
3. The Conclusion (Original Mix) by Darin Epsilon, Deeprogressv
4. Epikur (Original Mix) by David August
5. Collision (Original Mix) by Hollen
6. Fruit Love (Original Mix) by Deepfunk
7. Open Cycle (Andre Sobota Remix) by Alejandro Arroyo
8. Noizy Water (Hollen Remix) [Trapez Ltd] by Moritz Ochsenbauer
9. Requiem (Original Mix) by Ten Walls
10. Feel You (Original Mix) by Cedric Zeyenne
11. No One Gets Left Behind (Konstantin Sibold Remix) by DJ Yellow, Flowers And Sea Creatures
