NESRGB board available now
Re: NESRGB board available now
I have them all hooked up now and nes turned on and i still get error 44. I checked that they are plugged in in the right order and they are.
???
when i go to the jtag chain debugger and look at the chain diagram it shows the current state different from the required state but i dont know what it is asking me to do.
the only thing i can think of is that my usb blaster breakout cable has a bad wire or connector. I will get my multimeter and check it.
Edit: I checked the jtag cable. All wires show no resistance and give nice solid beeps.
Is there someone i could send my two boards to to program?

Hello everyone!
For the Hakko 808, which nozzle should I use?
What is the max temperature that I should set it to?

Do you have another computer you could try? Possibly something with a different version of windows? Not sure if you have to run the program as an administrator, but that is how I ran it.mvsfan wrote:I have them all hooked up now and nes turned on and i still get error 44. Also have you verified that you have good contact from your cable to board in all the holes?

good point, mickchris. I have another computer with xp. Havent tried it yet.
Re: NESRGB board available now
nope, it's actually very easy and it works on-the-fly , you just get a blank screen while you are changing palettes since the NERGB turns off and then on with the new palette. And it's not like you change them every 5 mins...leonk wrote:I think it would very difficult to switch the palette between games using this approach. I think it's more suitable for a set and forget type of usage.keropi wrote:regarding the palette switches, I wanted something less intrusive until I decide what I will finally use (switch or switchless PIC) so I just added a 3-position dip switch block on the grills at the backside of the famicom AV... 0 holes and if you bend the legs of the switch is stays into place![]()
works fine and is easily removed

Using those dip switches is a great idea! I love the way they don't require any holes to be drilled in the case. If you update to 1.4, you can actually select all palettes (including turning the NESRGB off completely) by using only two dip switches. All you have to do is permanently connect pad 3 to ground and put a switch to ground on pads 1 and 2. Then the palette selections would be as follows:
1 2 Palette
OFF OFF Natural (110)
OFF ON Improved (100)
ON OFF Garish (010)
ON ON NESRGB turned off (000)
ON corresponds to 0 on viletim's chart, and OFF corresponds to 1 because the pads are 1 by default and turning the switch on connects them to ground and pulls them down to 0.

Who else is doing mod work/instals of the nesrgb?
I myself have gotten buried in orders and have stopped taking on new customers.
So I want to be able to forward ppl to trustworthy modders. I have customers that would use a different modder if it meant it could be done quicker and I have 10 plus ppl a week asking to get it done.
So who do you recommend for this work? Also looking for non US ppl, I have a guy in Russia looking for a modder!
Would love to start a list, maybe even a new thread?

I'm capable of doing AV Fami and Twin Fami installs, and Yurkie on AtariAge also does installs.game-tech.us wrote:Who else is doing mod work/instals of the nesrgb?

Re: NESRGB board available now
Thanks Ben, I already have your email and will keep you in mind for customers that ask for av and twin work.ApolloBoy wrote: I'm capable of doing AV Fami and Twin Fami installs, and Yurkie on AtariAge also does installs.
I was in contact with Yurkie, the US nesrgb distributor, but he told me he only wanted to work on the front loader and av fami then recently said he only mods what he's interested in. Then yesterday he got angry with a guy I forwarded to him to do a front loader, told him to mod it himself, told me the guy was rude. I read the convo, didn't see any rudeness until after Todd blew up on him....
To be honest I don't know Todd or what he's done, but I assumed since Tim picked him to be the US distributor and since he offered to take on some of my overload it would work out great, but when I asked what happened with the referral he decided that he and I should just part ways with no hard feelings...
Needless to say he's off my list to refer work to. I'm wondering if he's just now figuring out how much work these kits can be, lots and lots of details to work out for almost every order!
Re: NESRGB board available now
I've done a few NES2's and AV famicom's myself and can do toaster models as well. Never even held a twin famicom or famicom before though

Really? Can you point that thread out to me (either here or in a PM)? I'm not doubting anything you said, I just want to see what the heck is going on since I was recommending Todd for mods as well.game-tech.us wrote:Thanks Ben, I already have your email and will keep you in mind for customers that ask for av and twin work.ApolloBoy wrote: I'm capable of doing AV Fami and Twin Fami installs, and Yurkie on AtariAge also does installs.

Since tim changed the switch logic with version 1.4 can i still use an on on on switch with it? i have several of them here and no other use for them.

It still works. Mine has an On-On-On and i have updated to 1.4.mvsfan wrote:Since tim changed the switch logic with version 1.4 can i still use an on on on switch with it? i have several of them here and no other use for them.
Re: NESRGB board available now
For anyone interested, here's examples of some of the NESRGB installations I've done so far. The top two are my Twin Famicom and top loader, the bottom one is an AV Fami I did for someone here.

Re: NESRGB board available now
ApolloBoy modified my AV Famicom and the whole transaction was very professional. He gave me status updates as revisions to the NESRGB software were being implemented and tested. When everything looked to be ok he shipped it out and it arrived in perfect working shape. Highly recommended if he is offering modification services.
Thanks again, ApolloBoy for the installation and viletim for creating such an amazing product!

I really like the nicely organized wires tied with the Jameco connectors. Re: NESRGB board available now
im surprised your not using the audio on the nesrgb. that nesrgb audio circuit sounds awesome. Some games sound more like a sega genesis than a nes. one i can think of is sky shark.
by the way i also like the connectors. looks much better than solder on the wires.
speaking of solder your soldering is great.
I also have a question - On the toploaders with the revised rf motherboard (ppu shifted to the left) will the nesrgb fit without the adapter?
I might buy one but not if the nesrgb wont fit.

I have a top loader that is using the nesrgb audio and the whine/buzz from screens that have no music is almost too much for me to take.mvsfan wrote:im surprised your not using the audio on the nesrgb. that nesrgb audio circuit sounds awesome. Is your audio in the same cable as your video? they need to be sheilded from each other.Adderall wrote:I have a top loader that is using the nesrgb audio and the whine/buzz from screens that have no music is almost too much for me to take.mvsfan wrote:im surprised your not using the audio on the nesrgb. that nesrgb audio circuit sounds awesome. my snes puts out a lot of buzz. ive been meaning to take apart its cable and run a seperate sheilded audio cable in it.
with all the nice mod work that people are doing someone should make some Clear shells for the toploader. that would be awesome.

Re: NESRGB board available now
Jason, I'm new to the modding scene.
However I am available to do 1 or 2 mods per weekend. Top loaders only.
I will admit that my skills aren't anywhere near yours.
Which is why I'm planning on doing pre-made toploaders.
I'm unable to offer the services you do. I'm sticking to drilling holes for the mini-din + aux setup that Tim seems to encourage. I drill a hole for the pallets switch too.
I'd be willing to do the 3D printed Multi out also if helder has any in stock.
I don't have the capital to invest in this like you did.
I'm mainly going to do it for fun. Not really for profit.
Edit:
Holy crap there are nesrgb kits available from the USA distributitor.
I'm debating on how many to order...

Re: NESRGB board available now

Everything on the multi out works great from composite to s-video to rgb.
I dont get any sound out of it though.
do Pins 1 have to be hooked up to A and pin 2 to B or can they be swapped?
btw nothing is bridged on the wire pads it just my camera.

Re: NESRGB board available now
So I managed to snag 1 nesrgb kit before the USA distributor sold out.
However he sold out of the scart cable.
Makes me have to go the route of the 3D printed rear panel option.
Makes my unit more expensive than what I wanted to initially offer.
So, by next week I will be offering 1 fully modded Top Loader NES.
Features:
Fully Recapped
New Bridge Rectifier
1.5a 7805 replacement w/ thermal paste
"Stereo" or Dual Mono (Customer decides)
3D Printed SNES multiout
Switch installation for all 3 palettes
Retro_console_accessories snes scart cord included
I will not include a nes power adapter or controllers.
I will highly recommend using an official power supply. Jason has proved that generic replacements introduces distortion to the picture.
I'll be charging $375 out the door.

i dont think thats steep at all.
on a toploader theres 200 connections that need to be made between the ppu and the motherboard socket alone.
why sell yourself short?

Re: NESRGB board available now
Can anyone comment on using a SCART cable with 220uF caps with this NES mod? I've been told that since the RGB board already has the filtering caps in it that you need a cable without them. I was going to use the same cable I use with my SNES and N64, but now I'm wondering if that's not a good idea.
Re: NESRGB board available now
200 connections? Desoldering and socketing it takes about a good 20 minutes taking your time with the right tools. Aside from the overpriced 3D printed mutli av out, all the other items he's replaced don't cost a lot nor do they take a long time to install. The bridge rectifier is less than a dollar, and takes about a minute to desolder the old one and place the new one in. There's very few aluninum caps on the board as well. It's just a creative way to make a long list to justify a steep price.mvsfan wrote:ApolloBoy wrote:Uhh that's a bit steep don't you think?sazyario wrote:I'll be charging $375 out the door.

More power to him if someone buys it, I remember fools paying $400 for RGB NES's with arcade PPU's. But trying to justify the price by saying its a lot of work is silly. The entire install is about an hour job when taking your time, and those parts replaced are all under $1.
Take the caps off the nesrgb board, or off the cable.Tempest_2084 wrote:Can anyone comment on using a SCART cable with 220uF caps with this NES mod? It's like working on cars. 80% of the work is having the proper tools.
