Hi Guys,
I have this very weird issue with my PVM. It is basically the same issue as shown in this youtube vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5cHqngqVYs
My issue however ONLY occurs with NTSC input. If I use any PAL input then there is no wobble/flicker. I am connecting my Genesis using the RGB cable from retrogamingcables. If I use a RGB cable with my Amiga then it does not have the wobble. However if I set the screenmode to NTSC on the Amiga in workbench, then the wobble starts.
I can however temporarily fix it. This can be done by turning the monitor on its side CLOCKWISE, when this is done the colours on the top half of the monitor go purple (this could also be the cause of the issue). If i leave it like this for a minute or so and turn it back flat, then the issue is is gone NO wobble and the colours are perfect. I can then use it for as long as I like if I dont turn it off and the wobble will be gone.
I have taken it to a TV repair shop and the guys said they replaced the caps (but I doubt it) and there is no change. I have spoken to other TV experts and they say it could be a dry solder joint, but wouldnt that affect all the displays not just NTSC?
This problem really is baffling, I wonder if any experts on here can say what would cause the colours to distort (turn purple) when turned sideways and what would cause the wobble/flicker shown in the video?
I have read that the NTSC is controlled by a different board in the TV so it may be something with that board? The service manual for this monitor is on this site and I am no expert but I wonder if anyone can go through it and see if there's an adjustment here that could help?
Please help! I love this TV and only got it from the recommendations on this site I want it working perfectly for all my RGB needs!

If it's only on 60hz (NTSC) then it would suggest that it's a problem on the vfreq side of the chassis.
See if you have the ability via the service menu, to adjust the vertical hold. A slight tweak of that may help.

I adjusted the vertical hold via the knob at the back that just makes it go up and down really fast but doesnt helpfagin wrote:If it's only on 60hz (NTSC) then it would suggest that it's a problem on the vfreq side of the chassis.

Not sure if there is an adjustment internally.

Sounds like a chassis issue then...... there won't be any adjustment available imo to sort that. It's probably a component issue.

Theoretically it should be fixable but unfortunately I'm not a chassis repair expert, so unable to offer an advice on that front.
Ideally an arcade operator / repair outfit maybe able to help you in this area.

Still having problems. I want to take off the back and try adjusting some things as suggested in the manual.
Whats the safest way to do this? What should I look out for?

I had the same issue with my 2130. Do you have a voltage converter around your monitor? This model is very sensitive to external magnetic fields like a transformer or an other tv.

Tried it in a empty room with no other electronic devices and still the same thing.Batmung wrote:I had the same issue with my 2130. Do you have a voltage converter around your monitor? This model is very sensitive to external magnetic fields like a transformer or an other tv.
Weird thing is I can turn it sideways to make it work, so I don't think its interference. Thanks though.
Any other ideas? Really desperate.

PVMs weren't really designed with tate in mind, so maybe if you remove the bezel, chassis, etc & very carefully look around for what may be causing the issue, the solution may become clear.
