"First revolution screens" a shmup? (nope)

As the name suggests, I'm guessing it's closer to a River Raid remake than anything else. The screenshots show meters for speed, altitude plus remaining ammunition for at least some of the weaponry.
Funny how the article reads slated for release, yet the NIBRIS guy himself says "Yeah...we don't actually have a devkit. And Nintendo of Europe didn't want our game".
Also bear in mind that the screenshots aren't really from Revolution, since they've only done the engine for PC so far.

Well the wording of the article seemed to indicate that NOE didn't want to publish it, not that they wouldn't approve it if someone else picked up the bill.Ghegs wrote:Funny how the article reads slated for release, yet the NIBRIS guy himself says "Yeah...we don't actually have a devkit. You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.
That's what I meant, I just realised the way I put it might be misunderstood. Ah well, cleared now.benstylus wrote:Well the wording of the article seemed to indicate that NOE didn't want to publish it, not that they wouldn't approve it if someone else picked up the bill.Ghegs wrote:Funny how the article reads slated for release, yet the NIBRIS guy himself says "Yeah...we don't actually have a devkit. I doubt that this will be a shooter in the "shmups" category.
Looking through the early screenshots I could not discern something as a main ship whatsoever.
Also who outside Nintendo itself and some of the big/major developpers would have an actual dev. kit by now... close to no one I suppose.

Supposedly Konami has one and they're the only company outside of Nintendo/Retro/etc. first parties to get it. I mean even if that's true, if the only one outside Nintendo to get one is the massive Konami then NO ONE else has it.
This game will probably be a lot of fun to play with the controller. Hopefully Nintendo turned it down for publishing because they're making a third Pilot Wings game.
Holy God imagine Hyper Zone with that controller!

The title "Raid over the River" is a bad sign.BrianC wrote:Actually, I noticed a big main ship on the bottom of the screen in the shots. Which means it could have the error of having a huge hitbox. Also, the game itself looks like it's a remake of River Raid. I smell a possible lawsuit from Activision.
Feedback will set you free.

Hah! This is how rumors get started. I think Neo Rasa was just fantasizing.metallica_tyler wrote:Did you just say they're making a third Pilot Wings game?Neo Rasa wrote: Hopefully Nintendo turned it down for publishing because they're making a third Pilot Wings game.

Errr....I know this is a beta vesion running on a PC, but the Revolution had better have (and I'm sure it will) better visuals to offer than this. It looks like a dodgy budget PC game to me.

Anyway, I noticed the hieght gauge at the bottom, maybe it has a control method similar to Sega's ancient Zaxxon? Perhaps you get to tilt the revolution pad up and down to change heights?

Agreed-it does look great, and although it does have the meters ala River Raid, it still looks more like a misson-based shooter then anything else.Shatterhand wrote:I think it looks more like a Desert Strike alike game than a shmup.
It looks very nice tough...
And even if it turns out to be a shmup for the Revolution, I still wouldn't personally get a Revolution just for it. I probably won't even get one at all, considering that Famicom, Super Famicom, and import N64 games will not be available for download. I'm still ticked at Nintendo for not allowing this, because there is no good reason why they couldn't make those games available for download.
Until Nintendo changes this stupid policy, my enthusiasm for the Revolution will remain dead.

The 360 will have XBOX Live Arcade games that you can download and purchase for a price.Shatterhand wrote:Oh, cmon mate.
Neither the PS3 or the X-Box 360 will have any game available for download anyway!
The revolution is the next-gen system that most interest me, just because it's different.
Though I don't even own a system for the current gen.... it will take me a while to have any of the next one...
And so what about the Rev's downloads?? I could purchase a NES, SNES, and N64, and still come short of the price of the Revolution, even though it will be the cheapest of the next 3 consoles.

Word. I don't think there'll be any Revolution screens or footage until E3 next year; could be wrong, though.Dylan1CC wrote:As Shatterhand said, it looks more like a next gen Desert Strike.
Also folks should bear in mind that the screens are from a PC-based dev kit they have, not a Revolution kit.

Heh, I got this wall of death next to my tv with the NES and up all hooked up simultaneously. Having the downloads would actually free up quite a bit of space.
That said, there are some situations where my overzealous fandom of a franchise is such that I will buy a game multiple times.
If the Revolutions downloadable content is released in "volumes" where you can get, say, all _____ type games from _____ year instead of paying a price for individual titles then I will be all over it.
It would also be cool if they have an XBox Live type deal (they already said online play will be free, this is just for the downloads). Wherein like $50 a year entitles you to every download or something of that kind.

It's silly to read anything into this. It looks like this is a strictly amateur development group that's trying to draw attention to itself by saying it's at work on a Revolution game. I can't take them seriously if their only justification for limited themselves to Nintendo platforms is that "NINTENDO IS OUR LIFE!!!" Talk about fanboyism.
And the "game concept" on the website says "best shooter ever created." Yeah, right. Come on. Have they even studied Gradius, Thunderforce and R-Type? Doubtful.

Sorry, just had to say that.

*shrugs* All I'm saying is Nintendo's policy on this issue makes absolutely no sense. Region-locking consoles due to piracy-that I can understand, but what's the risk here? The Super Famicom may well be the most owned import system in the US, so if anything, Nintendo would probably gain more money by allowing import downloads on the Revolution. Yeah, the Revolution will be VERY small, but this would help save a good deal of space.
At any rate, I wouldn't put too much stock into that game until there is a definate release date, which, with the way Nintendo's handling information about the Revolution, is gonna be a while. Remember how excited some of us were when we first heard about, and saw screenshots of, XBOX Xyanide.
