Gleylancer worth it?

Is Gleylancer worth the high price it demands?

Depends on your taste. It's an oldschool game and follows the console shooter trend as in being quite unbalanced and too long! It still has its moments however, and the music and graphics are great!

I picked the game (complete) up last year and while it was one of the more expensive Genesis shooters, I really love the game. The music is upbeat and feels somewhat Technosoft-ish (though TF4 is my fav music as far as Genesis shooters go) and the game is solid - perfect controls, perfect hit detection, multi-angle shots, etc. It feels well designed. It's a shame it's not a bit cheaper so more people can enjoy it on the real console. In short, I'd recommend it highly.

There are numerous reviews you can see if you Google "Gleylancer Megadrive" and one of note is at our very own shmups site:

http://www.classicgaming.com/shmups/rev ... index.html

The biggest complaint I've heard against Gleylancer is that it is too derivitive as a generic horizontal shooter. I found there are many derivitive generic horizontal shooters which are simply inferior to the high quality of Gleylancer. It may not advance the genre, but sometimes you just want a solid horizontal shooter in a well designed package.

I like it! Its one of the best.
Expect a little ThunderForce III-ish overtones, with a cool selectable weapon system.
I second the fact that the music and graphics are great.
Gameplay is perfect!

If you have the money, then get it.

I too get that Thunder Force III feel from it.

I say its worth it. I feel that this is the best Mega Drive shootie. And yes the music is tops.

My one complaint is that the boss fights are pretty much easy and short. The real challenge comes in the levels. There are some really neat levels on that note. I really like the "maze like" 4th level.

It's pretty decent but not quite as good as some other MD/Gen shmups. I do love the music and graphics (esp the anime), but the checkpoint gameplay gets really old. I recommend checking out Eliminate Down and Panorama Cotton first.

Where can i get panorama cotton the ROM from?
got it off rom nation but its very buggy.
Um, don't ask questions about finding roms here. I've played Gleylancer at a friends place, it's a good looking game, and was fun from what I played. However, I haven't played it extensively to know if it's worth the premium it goes for.

In short, yes. The graphics are nicely done, the weapons system is diverse, the music is well made, the controls are crisp, and it's got a good challenge under it all. It doesn't knock TF4 from it's perch atop the Genesis/MegaDrive shmup pyramid, but it's easily in the top ten for the system.

lets just say that thanks to the option menu you can play at least 3 different games.

It's a fun game but probably not worth the high price that it commands.

Thunderforce III, Thunderforce IV, and M.U.S.H.A. are better Genesis shmups.

why hello there random 8 year old topic

gleylancer is a nice package and a decent game, like koutetsu teikoku and gynoug. i'd totally buy one.

fuck no, musha is ass design the whole ride down, easily one of compile's worst games (i haven't played ever single one yet but it might be the worst). not even worth playing, i'd be super pissed if i had that game as a kid. go play dennin instead, much better game.

Yes banned user, it's certainly among the better $exp£nsive MD shooters. Unlike Koutetsu or Battle Mania 2 which trade somewhat more on style it's a totally solid game. Very much in Irem's vein, some neat resemblances to Image Fight in its option controls and powerup selection. Put it on Hard immediately though.

I wish llabnip still posted here. ;-;

How in the hell did anyone even run into this topic to bring it back from the grave?

Public service announcement: Here in the beautiful future of 2014, with our flying cars and our new direct neural link Sega Pluto gaming systems Gleylancer can be had on the Wii VC for a mere $10. On the US store no less! Not sure why you would want to play it when everyone else is playing Metal Black II though...

I'm grateful this thread got bumped, just so I could see this. I was trying to remember this game, and eventually stopped looking, cause I convinced myself Elemental Master was what I was thinking of.
