Famicom GPM-02 Problem

Post by Skips »

Sorry if this is the wrong section for this.

I had bought a GPM-02 Famicom and it worked when I first got it but about 10 minutes after testing to make sure it was working it just stopped. I took it apart and tested the Famicom PCB to see if it was getting 5 volts however it was fluctuating between .25 and .5 volts. I figured this is probably just the power regulator so I removed the RF box and fed the pcb a straight 5 volts DC (I plan to RGB mod it and had to remove the RF box anyway). I got the same result by using a 5 volt PSU. Next I tested the voltage at the power jack with the system off and it reads a perfect and steady 5 volts. If you turn the system on it drops down to .25 - .5 volts, even at the power jack. I have tried multiple 5 volt PSU's and all have met the same results (I know they are working).

The problem has been isolated to something on the Famicom PCB itself. The only part I know for sure is 100% working is the PPU, I desoldered it and tried it in another system after this problem occurred. I also discovered that the original PSU I had tested with before removing the RF box was faulty so I am pretty sure that is what caused the problem. Has anyone experienced this issue with the old Famicom?

Perhaps it's the power switch?

Feeding 5v straight into it without the power switch does the same thing. I am thinking my next step is to begin replacing the IC's one at a time and see if one of those fixes my problem.

**Update** I removed all the other IC's and power now gets to the pcb. Going to replace them and see if that gets it going.
