Re: COVID-19 in your part of the world
Seems the first round of physical stimulus checks in the USA might be delayed, but don't worry, it's for an extremely important reason.
If anyone wants to know why we're so screwed here, remember, there will be people lining up to fiercely and indignantly defend this, and demand more. And somehow they won't emerge out the other end as untouchable laughingstocks, because, as Daddy himself has so perfectly demonstrated here, now's not the time to be playing politics.

That speech for anyone w/ a pulse was fucking next level gas lighting. In all honesty it was hard to watch. The sad thing is so few do any type of research (or even pay attention) these days plenty will swallow it like it was a huge load and they were trying to impress their new boyfriend.CIT wrote: Now he's withdrawn US funding from the WHO in attempt to mask his own failure in this crisis, thereby actively impeding the fight against the virus...

No people on this Earth combine coprophagic smugness and teary self-flagellation quite like the English left. Trust me, as an ambiguous foreigner I've made thousands off it. Take that, racism! Even the spryest of you MURICANS would pull a muscle attempting such rimming contortions.

I thought it was stated WHO didn't do as much on reporting the pandemic before it became one and this was in part with China trying to silence doctors or anyone attempting to get the word out?
Also they blocked all discussion on Taiwan again in regards to this situation. $500 million from our pocket just to be working in China's favor isn't worth supporting.

Re: COVID-19 in your part of the world
The WHO's relationship with China needs to be scrutinized for sure, but what do you think is the smart thing to do? Simply withdraw all funding, while the WHO plays a crucial role in coordinating coronavirus research, or telling them that the money will come with some strings attached and more oversight? Without the US involved at all now, it just invites China to exert even more influence over the WHO.headlesshobbs wrote:I thought it was stated WHO didn't do as much on reporting the pandemic before it became one and this was in part with China trying to silence doctors or anyone attempting to get the word out?

And you don't need the WHO to figure out how to prepare for a pandemic. Other countries were able to do it, the reason the US wasn't is because of the incompetence of its government, which is now trying to shift the blame.

They were instrumental in the Sars and H1N1 outbreaks where they went after them aggresively, but the more recent dealings with China when they were given the "all clear" back in Dec, only for them to not pressure them into reassuring left the door wide open for it to spread.
If Gro Harlem Brundtland were still part of the organization, everyone would be singing a much different tune by now. I don't know about Baby Trump and the way he goes into tirades on how to handle everything, but I do agree that accountability needs to be taken. Reorganizing Who and making sure China squarely takes the blame for this mess is a top priority.
Also their communist tradition of dictating is not something that is accepted and already cost much of the world dearly because of it.

Reason enough to send Trump out of office with a boot up his ass.
I'm wondering if the Supreme Court can overrule his idea that life saving equipment should be monopolized during a time of crisis?

Oh please.
Biden was a neoliberal Republican before he went senile. Now, he'll be a 1987 Ronald Reagan neoliberal Republican puppet.
Sending Trump out actually accomplishes nothing. The government won't change. You'll get more organised press gatherings and fewer offensive tweets. Although, Biden was never particularly well spoken, so you'll get "W" gaffes combined with nonsensical senile rambling.
Big deal.

..and we're not done yet!
You might also occasionally get people with actual relevant expertise appointed to vital government positions. Or Supreme Court justices who don't force people to go to the polls in person during a pandemic...assuming McConnell and company don't just outright steal seats again, with the we're only so cynical because we hate corruption in government sooooo much crowd sitting by in smiling, acquiescent silence. The government won't change. Expertise? That's a fraud.BulletMagnet wrote:..and we're not done yet!

You mean appointing people that were born rich, passed through all the right establishmets, checked all the boxes, and had all the right friends? Those people?
Cradle to grave, they are neolibs.
The ones that haven't lived even one day of their lives with any kind real problem (besides ordinary annoyances, death, and taxes)?
Those people?
Roosevelt went outside the establishment to appoint his cabinet. Remember? Or, did you know?
You're a neoliberal. If you aren't, then stop talking like one!
"Not Trump" isn't a rallying cry.
No thanks. Eat another shit burger and check back in with me in four. At some point, you'll get sick of eating shit.
The problem isn't a lack of "credentials", it's Trump's choices. He doesn't want to change things, so he doesn't.
I'm not playing blackmail games anymore.

Re: COVID-19 in your part of the world
Um...last I checked "expertise", at least as it applies to the situation under discussion, was something along the lines of "possessing a level of relevant subject matter knowledge necessary to capably serve in a particular capacity". The stuff you rattled off is the same "screw those eggheads, what do they know" laundry list used to demonize "elites", "academics", "boomers", or whatever the current "only ever trust your gut (which is currently telling you to buy my new tell-all book)" buzzword might be.orange808 wrote:Expertise? So, if you want to infer that anyone who would still, even in the regrettable absence of sweeping and necessary structural change, like to at least see actual credentialed experts calling the shots on matters of import as a de facto shill for cronyism and nepotism - which, as it happens, rather succinctly sums up the current state of affairs, in which "expertise" of any sort is openly frowned upon - you go right ahead, but if that's really the way everything works - that all the "actual" experts out there are just as fraudulent and corrupt and empty as the Jared Kushners - just who the fuck, aside from your enlightened self of course, do you propose we listen to?

This is politics we're talking about. Everyone else is correct and you're always an idiot who doesn't know what you're talking about. Enough anger posts to last till the pigs fly home.
Kinda why I say fuck these type of topics because of the endless toxicity. People must always look for an argument rather then share any discussion on the facts that have been reported truthfully.
Plus there's the BS biased posts since it's always about which side you're playing for. To hell with that noise.

Maybe I'm missing something in the argument, but if you can't at least acknowledge that BM has at least some beef here then you really are hopeless. The far end of the spectrum is DeVoss. She has no place in any public office due to ineptness and being shoulder deep up her own ass. Even my ultra conservative friends know that. Yet, here we are, with others of varying degrees - some only slightly less egregious. (Kushner comes to mind). That's not to say everyone (or anyone) in office is qualified, but they at least don't shit the mattress in the interview process.headlesshobbs wrote:This is politics we're talking about. All I will say on this matter, there are people calling this virus a hoax, my mom has it, seems to be a milder case (she's 69 with COPD). People like that just piss me off.
