Totally want to do this, but I just don't have the space for another crt.

Yet.

Oh yeah, I used to have a nice 2 CRT TV setup for this, and captured a good TC2 run with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrKakcWSp_E

Just played my TC1 Arcade again today and felt like I could just play it all day long.

Can anyone open up their Japanese Dreamcast Virtua Gun HKT-7800 and take a picture of the insides for me? I have one but the trigger piece appears to be damaged so I'm just wanting to verify that it is missing some plastic at the bottom.

Image

It's not important as I'm going to be designing a switch kit for this (and the original trigger button was busted anyway).

Have done a video on Crisis Zone without the smoke screen.
This is achieved using PCSX2 and a patch on this forum post. It works well enough to score very high!

Is this a big problem for people? I've played that game a bunch (although it's been a little bit), and don't remember anything about fog ruining the game or anything (at least not so much that I even remember it and have to ask a question like this ;)

Has anyone played Primeval Hunt? More like a mix with buck hunter but has a touch screen map so you move when you point. Pretty interesting played a big 60” one.

I can't seem to find any talk about this game online without it being mentioned in a negative way!
This is the PS2 version by the way, the arcade doesn't have any issues with how the gun works.

I need a Sega Ages Virtua Cop 1&2 port for Switch. Used to absolutely adore both of those game, though I'm pretty sure I remember preferring the original when it came to scoring.

That's odd. I just did a(nother) Google search for Crisis Zone PS2 reviews, clicked on the first 5 of them, and not a single one mentioned the word "fog"...

So that means I still don't understand what you're talking about, or what the problem is. I'm assuming the fog messed up the ability to hit targets or something like that?

I mean on forum posts, even the thread on this forum when the port was released (admittedly I was the first to mention it)
It does screw up the gun tracking on emulation too.

Finally got around to converting a Sega Saturn Stunner into an SNES Super Scope compatible gun, I modified a Nerf Rival Kronos to house it:

This seems pretty legit. It's only for PC but with emulators and a few good PC releases this seems like a good place to start. Plus if this takes off it could open doors for more stuff down the road. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4-jbsT8O7PE

Amazing. That Sinden Lightgun is supposed to work without IR sensors around the screen, while being accurate enough to not use crosshairs. Looking forward to this.

Sinden Lightgun blog wrote:
The Sinden Lightgun calculates where you are pointing on the screen over 50 times a second and provides a complete end to end calculation in less than 25ms. As it remains completely accurate no matter how long you play or if you move positions you can turn off your crosshairs and enjoy a completely authentic Lightgun experience.

How does it work?

The Sinden Lightgun software adds a thin border around your television display. The hardware is an optical based system which uses this border to visually calculate the aiming position.

The Sinden Lightgun can also calculate the angle you are pointing at the television and also your relative distance which hopefully in the future can open up new gaming concepts and interactions.

The PS2 is the absolute best console ever for light gun games and the official Namco guncon 2 is the absolute best home light gun ever made.

Nothing else even comes close for gun games. Games like Time Crisis 2 and 3, Vampire Night, Ninja Assault etc are all near perfect arcade ports (or better in some cases). and, unlike 3do, snes, nes etc games, PS2 ganes still look good.

Most of the PS1 arcade light gun games can be played in mame so I usually choose to play the real arcade version (with either my Act labs gun or my Guncon 2). for some reason, I prefer the PS1 version of Time Crisis though.

I put my Guncon 2 electronics inside a pair of Konami Op Thunder Hurricane recoil guns:

it was a pretty easy mod:

recoil makes everything better. I use converted arcade recoil guns for directional gun games and these work on any type of monitor. e.g. here is my Rev X gun being tested on an LCD monitor:

and here is my Gunblade / Alien 3 recoil gun being used on my 110" projector screen:

Thought I'd post it here, but I've created a 24/7 stream of my unused light-gun videos on youtube, I've not promoted it anywhere yet, but any feedback would be nice!

That & Razing Storm. Kinda counts, with Namco calling it TC: Razing Storm on PS3.
It's a shame how some cheaters have screwed up the PS3 RS leaderboard with 8-figure scores which clearly shouldn't be possible.

We really need a PS4 port of TC5, badly- even if it's just the arcade game with no extra content. I think it's been arcade exclusive long enough, especially with the PS Aim controller being around. They could even add PSVR support to it.

I agree. It is baffling to me that, after releasing every other TC game for the home market, they choose now to make TC5 arcade only. 99% of the worlds arcades have closed down. Arcade exclusives is a losing model. There is literally nowhere to play TC5 near me and I live in New York.

The TC5 coin op is a PC so a home release would require little porting. Just a home version of the gun.

I was actually surprised how nicely Razing Storm on PS3 plays on a flatscreen with the 2x sensors - and I'm used to playing light gun games on CRT's which can be extremely accurate. Now you can't move from the spot you calibrated it at (which for me is dead-center sitting on my couch), like not even lean forward, crouch down, scoot to the left 6" or it'll be off, but it's still been very good surprisingly.

Do you know how these guns are meant to work? In the video, it looks like it adds a 1" white border around the screen. I assume this white border is instead of sensors around the screen. If that is the case, I wouldn't be interested.

Any new light gun tech I might consider buying would have to not alter games in any way (e.g. Not adding a white border). They would need to be at least as accurate as the official Namco GC2. And, it would need to have a (high quality) solenoid recoil mechanism.

Any light gun tech that works by trying to find it's position using sensors (or a white border) is not going to cut it. We need a new tech where the gun can read the screen and determine where it is aimed instead of using sensors to find it's position. It will never be as accurate as a real light gun until they do this.

A border I can put up with, if that's what it takes to play gun games on a LCD TV. It's better than not playing them at all. The gun's designer seems to have it working really well from the Youtube videos.

Here's Chris Nightingale's explanation of how Crisis Zone's arcade version works (without flashing).
Chris Nightingale wrote:
It's a rather clever setup where by the gun shines an infrared beam onto the screen and a camera picks it up so that it can tell where the gun is pointing.

So, the beam comes from the gun itself. Nice. It's a shame TC3 didn't use something like that to ditch the flashing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01X9Cq-zzVM Chris playing CZ on actual hardware with a projector display. Nice.

Too many Western gun games seem all about getting that next $0.50-$1 out of your pocket (*cough* Raw Thrills, I'm giving you that nasty glare). Namco & Sega have the right idea- make them challenging but not cheap.

TC5 is a PC game on Unreal Engine (is it UE3 or UE4?) that would need a modest effort to bring over. So is Tekken 7 (with UE4) which Namco didn't seem to have trouble porting.

My guess is that Namco has a sore tushy after the horrible reviews they got for TC4 on the PS3. Why else shun the PS4...

They don't seem to understand that the quality of the port was not the issue. TC4 is the worst of all the TC series. It's just not much fun. I have no idea if TC5 is any better as there are no arcades to play it in near me. I can't imagine that two pedal gameplay makes for an easy home port though.

I do hope the Sinden gun goes all well, anything that can help me play better is good!

TC4 was on PS3 felt like it was made to sell consoles, TC5 would be a bit different, and it really isn't as good as the rest of the series. I think Razing Storm didn't get that great reviews too, despite it having the DeadStorm Pirates port that everyone loves!

Of course I'd like to play TC5 at home though!

What I think really hurt TC4 on PS3 in the original retail version is its lack of true link play or at least an ability to do it over PSN. Not sure if the version included with Razing Storm allows 2P over PSN though.

The one thing I do not care for in TC5 is the Move Event (QTE) where you hit either the left or right pedal to dodge an incoming object. It'd be perfect if that were left out.

Namco could find some compromise for the 2 pedal gameplay using the buttons on the Move wand or PSVR Aim.

I haven't played the Razing Storm compilation yet, but videos show TC4 on it as only having split screen like the standalone port.

When I first played the PS2 port of Crisis Zone years ago, I eagerly anticipated getting a Guncon 2. When I actually had one, the flash and smoke made me pine for the controller.

Yeah, the TC4 on Razing Storm is pretty much the same as the original port (though aiming is inaccurate for me when playing 4:3)
