3 lives, feel free to toggle in-game autofire. Like Darius II, use Off/On/Ext.

Don't use the 50 lives cheat, of course. Lots of regional differences, but no gameplay ones seen... yet.

Holy fucking shit, CIT!
How is it even possible to get a score like that?
Is it from milking Super Alloy Lantern?

Super Alloy Lantern isn't worth anything. It's all about milking the small turtles out of the turtle boss in the penultimate stage (forgot which one).

Tks Plasmo.
How long would it take to milk these turtles then?

If I remember correctly, the bosses time out at some point, so it's not possible to counter stop.

You need to play stage J (see CIT's score) for the turtle boss.

Other than that, good going. I remember the last stage to be an absolute pain.

You can just sit smack at the upper right corner through the last stage if you want an easy clear.

You're using the best route already, and you're close to the theoretical maximum, so you probably don't need to bother with this game anymore. ;)

Here's a score for the sake of participation. Last place awwww yea 8)

ACSeraph - 2,333,200 - ABDEGJL (ALL) - SFC

I purposely timed out Alloy Lantern to get the shitty ending, took an eternity. There are 5 endings apparently, does anyone know their exact requirements? Also I always get whacked by those god damn crabs, whats a consistent strategy for them?

Perikles – 4,139,400 – ABDEGJL (ALL) – Japanese Cart

Can't be bothered to optimize the somniferous milking process.

@ACSeraph:
The crabs never use the same pattern twice in a row. You can use that to your advantage since you know in advance where it's going to be safe. As long as you sit in the upper right corner in the final stage and hold your fire while doing so you don't have to deal with more than one crab at a time.

Edit: Looks like the other host I used is out of business, added a working picture.

Found a bunch of cosmetic regional differences and a 50 lives cheat.

ACSeraph wrote:

According to someone on YouTube:
WillRennar wrote:
Methods of getting the different endings:
-Don't destroy the Super Alloy Lantern.
-Destroy SAL, lose 2+ lives.
-Destroy SAL, Lose 1 life.
-Destroy SAL, lose 0 lives, defeat Full Metal Shell in Zone J.
-Destroy SAL, lose 0 lives, defeat Hyper Great Thing in Zone K.

Also supposedly going through zone H is best for at least the zone K ending. Going to assume that the "lose 0 lives"/"good" endings are the ones where there's a battleship and a fleet of Silver Hawks.

Here's the video, captured from a real SNES: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmcU4PJbWcE

I did some testing and I'm 99% sure the route I used is the optimal for scoring.

Whoa. Is 6M possible?

Curious as to why E is better than F. Not familiar with the differences between B/C, E/F, G/I, etc.

Aww fuck, this game works with external autofire. Adding section, if anyone wants me to split or even ban that's fine.

Really? If I try it using my Fighting Commander the ship doesn't shoot.

I tested every level and counted the individual points from each, that is how I determined the route. I believe B/C and E/F are very similar in scoring, but I just went with whichever one was the highest in my tests.

Yes, I believe 6M is absolutely possible, and I'd say 6.2-6.3 million or so is the ceiling. It really comes down to optimizing the turtle milking in J, while still killing the boss (I don't think you get a bonus if he times out, but I don't remember). There are some points left on the table in the final stage from the mini-bosses, but killing that stuff is very dangerous (I was aiming for a no-death run, scoring was secondary). You can also milk the spawns of Super Alloy Lantern for I think 2K each, but it doesn't really add up to much.

What do you mean by external autofire and why would it be banned?

Also, I used a US cart and US SNES for my run.

The Fighting Commander may have too high a rate. The easiest way to do this would probably be in emulators.

pegboy wrote:

Just figured that people would be bothered by autofire in console games, trivializing already (often) easy games. Aside from that, it's no different from using autofire in arcade Darius and Darius II. Funny... Darius II MD and Super Darius II have max autofire out of the box. Only console games I can think of that do, aside from CAVE games or whatever.

Like with so many arcade games, you can physically fire a lot faster than the game lets you. Console games are supposed to have that autofire that arcade games are "missing". However, a surprising amount of console games actually have low-ish default firing rates that a turbo controller would be able to beat. You can even see this in PC Engine games, where turbo was quickly introduced as part of the basic controller.

Aside from making an easy game even more easy but doing nothing about zone L, faster autofire makes a lot of enemies in the early stages of Normal difficulty actually reasonable to kill. Unfortunately, the Darius II weapons still aren't as useful as the Darius weapons with this, which I was really hoping for because then zone L would actually be playable.

Speaking of which, if anyone's wondering what Easy is, it just lowers enemy HP from what I can tell. I don't think captains or bosses are affected, so zone L may as well be exactly the same.

(I can't even do safe strats, stupid fucking Hard Cap, god damn it Taito)

Didn't think I would play this one again, but it got selected and I figured I might as well try to get something better. I actually failed to kill Full Metalshell and lost out on 300,000 points as a result, I did, however, fight the captains in the final stage (which cost me most of my lives). 6.4m is definitely possible (one more little turtle and Full Metalshell would be that amount already), if you can find an optimal way to get more turtles you might even get past 6.6 or 6.7m. I'm done for good now, though.

LOL, of all the games I'd thought you come back to this one is certainly a surprise. Nice score! I will always have a soft spot for this game, it was one of the first few 1CCs I ever did.

Me and Perikles are taking part of a tournament on Facebook and this was the game chosen. Unsurprisingly, he's completely demolishing the rest of us.

Back on February 19 of this year I managed to pull off 6,171,900. The run was also deathless.

Normal
CnEY - 6,171,900 - ACDEHJL (ALL) - On - US ROM+SNESClassic

Image

Unfortunately, the Twitch VOD I had of this got deleted when Twitch in their infinite wisdom had a bug that deleted highlights after 14 days, and also in their infinite wisdom apparently don't keep backups. Meanwhile in my own infinite wisdom I didn't keep a local recording or export it to YouTube. I'm still kicking myself.

I even still have the auto-deleted highlight listed in a collection, right next to a newer highlight that they didn't somehow manage to delete.

Image

The other highlight that does exist is a much messier 6,096,200: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/250552531

So if the images aren't proof enough of the former score, take the video proof of the latter.

made this final semi good boss milk run after 3 1cc for all stages to beat someones score in another forum. If I had seen the score of CIT before (who is in this particular forum as well), I possibly had tryed more often to get 5.1 or something. But this game is not fun enough to go back to it I guess...
