Just noticed this 3-year old score, so will try to learn some chaining and beat it.

It says Japan everywhere and has extend items, so I really doubt it. If you're looking at the inp/rom name then most likely "u" stands for Unlimited and not US.

Might have been able to stretch this to a 1cc but had a few fuck ups in round 5 and died at the boss.

Normal course
Acid King - 26,102,330 - Flame Viper (A) - Stage 5 (SE) - PCB

Very nice! Have you tried Flame Viper C? If so, why do you pick A? Is there something better about it that I should know about? :)

I do C runs from time to time, but I like A because I prefer having the extra powered standard shot when bombs are active on screen. It seems to help milking Cyclops, since you can dislodge the side turrets a bit easier before they slide in to the bomb. I tend to keep my options set in in the third style, with all options lined up in front of the ship, and it gives me a little extra juice for point blanking certain enemies and for concentrating fire on certain pieces of bosses.

Interesting, I'll have to give that a shot then! I've needed to get the hang of the Cyclops milk anyways.

I think it's easier to do than Axebeak but the beginning can be tricky if the rank is high going in to the fight. I've tried carrying all 4 or 5 extends from Axebeak in to it and it's a sight easier with a death in the stage. I've been going Train>Seaside>Naval>Desert so I can practice him, I think the most I've pulled from him so far is ~6 million.

After many years, I finally decided to switch over to Advanced. I really have to get the boss rush down, I coast until then and I usually end up dropping one or two lives before Gigamanta. This run I died on Gigamanta's final form.

ADVANCED COURSE

Acid King - 27,413,330 - Flame Viper [A] - Stage 6 (SE)

EDIT:

Might as well add my new Normal Course score while I'm at it.

NORMAL COURSE

Acid King - 33,285,180 Flame Viper [A] - ALL [SE]

Updated.

For further reference, if you're posting an updated score please make note of the previous entry # that score replaces/over-writes. Thanks.

I can't believe this run happened, got exactly the order I needed from the Cloud midbosses so I went for it and snagged a 50000x64 from Gargoyle (brown guy), then took all the score from Gigamanta's tail too, also some unusual scoring in Valley where you can get lots of 5000x64 if you destroy the miniturrets in the turret wall with shot and not bomb, rest was my usual hijinks and with some survival it was enough for this score

Advanced Course
ciox - 64,229,340 - Flame Viper (C) - Stage 8 (SE) - shmupmame3b

Great score man, very impressive. So does that make you the first westerner to reach the original release counterstop?
