Japanese 6-button Megadrive Mini pad works for sure. I have that and the official Astro Mini pad, and there's no question which is superior.drunkninja24 wrote:So one thing I'm curious about on this thing is mostly: is there any kind of list of controllers that are known to work? I was hoping either my Genesis Mini or my retrobit genesis/saturn 6 button pads would work on it but all those seem a no go. I've seen a couple videos where people have successfully used an 8bitdo M30 genesis-style pad to play on the non-V model (which I'm assuming this one uses the same basic hardware) but curious if there's anywhere such a listing exists (would also be nice to have a similar one for Egret II mini while we're at it).

I've been told the 8BitDo M30 works fine, at least with the usb cable.

I haven't got my hands on any controllers as yet - how would someone connect this to the ASM?lovecraft wrote:I've been told the 8BitDo M30 works fine, at least with the usb cable.

So, using a 3A adapter wont hurt the mini?
Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
The more I play with it, the more I love and find it responsive.
I feel it's even better played with the official pad on external screen via HDMI.
Batsugun, Batrider and Bakraid play fine ! Same feeling with VV and Tatsujin.
I feel the lag a little bit more with the Psikyo's, especially Strikers 1945 and Gunbird.
Thank you SEGA.

Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
same over here. My initial impressions weren't great, because several titles indeed felt incredibly sluggish. I think the main culprit for me is the immense dead zone of the internal stick. This adds such a delay between your response to what you're seeing and the actual's game response that it really dampens the experience. Playing it with an external controller (so far still on the internal screen) feels so much better in terms of responsiveness.

Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
I find sticks less responsive in general for shmups due to the extra throw.
Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
Just to end this whole nonsense and save people time and money: the whole "get a bigger power adapter to reduce lag" is 100% bullshit.
There are several people who have measured the power consumption of the Astro Mini V and it peaked at 700mA, so anything which is able to provide 1A at 5V is going to be perfectly fine.
This has been tested with test bench PSUs, by varying the amount of current given to the Astro, not by "feeling" or "eyeballing" or any other nonsense.
Just get any decent smartphone charger or powerbank and you'll be fine.

I didn't dare say it, but I was also pretty sure a more powerful AC adapter would not improve anything
People should instead try playing with the official pad, it works flawlessly on it, and plug the Mini on an external screen also.
Because of this Mini, I now want to buy the first version

Get a quality PSU that can source the manufacturer's requirements not a 'bigger supply' is what is being advised.donluca wrote:Just to end this whole nonsense and save people time and money: the whole "get a bigger power adapter to reduce lag" is 100% bullshit.

I'm really enjoying it too. Many of us were looking forward to it but had to wait for it to be released. Now, I have a bit of time over the Summer to actually play it I can tell you being able to play tatsujin-ou again is a really big part of the appeal in my case.DenimDemon wrote:I don’t know…Plenty of Japanese tweets state they got smoother control after buying a new power supply…

I had barely played Batrider : only a few times in the Arcade, but what a fun game it is
I've just ordered an official pad. I'd be interested in looking at joystick solutions perhaps further on though.

Mine arrived today, have not opened it up. I'm selling it at cost price in the Trading forum if someone is interested.

unofficially yes some smart guy would make the way, but it's just logic for the world of licences.. that couldnt happen unless partnership between (what's left...) of Sega & (what's left) of Cave..,Fudoh wrote: I'd be open to a Egret Special Edition with a dozen Cave titles next year
Egret2 mini had the Tate Taito stuff licensed they could put on..(and it wasn't a shame but not that intense danmaku..)

Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
I have spent some time playing this with both a 3A Anker USB adaptor and a 2A Oculus adaptor and haven't noticed any consistent differences. I do feel I am getting better response with a wired controller than I am with the built-in one. I haven't yet played with HDMI out.

MOF finally got the 3A power supply people have been recommending and confirms it's a placebo effect. Testing showed the same results as before.

Ditto
I have spent more time playing with Bakraid, Batrider and Batsugun using the external official pad, and it's a blast to play on an external big screen !
Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
I managed to get a 1CC on Battle Bakraid Normal Course (using the OP fire secret ship). Just kept rank super low, and scored juuuuust enough to get a single 1-Up. This is actually a great little beginner shmup when played that way. I'm happy to have run the credits on at least one game on this thing.

Nice! I agree both Bakraid and Batrider normal course are quite doable.

What ships do we recommend for Batrider noobs?

Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
Is there anywhere still selling the official controllers at reasonable prices?
If not what pads work with it?
So far I've unsuccesfully tried
-xbox 360 wired
-PS3 Virtua Stick High Grade
-8bitdo arcade stick (wired and wireless)
-egret mini arcade stick

On the original Astro City Mini, the Mayflash F300 Elite and F500 Elite, 8bitdo 2.4g Genesis Mini, Sega Megadrive Mini 6 button, and Mayflash Magic-S adapter with PS4 controller worked, IIRC.

Well done, but how confident are you that you could achieve the same on say tatsujin-ou?Jonpachi wrote:I managed to get a 1CC on Battle Bakraid Normal Course (using the OP fire secret ship). I mus say that BB is quite good fun, and I hadn't played it before I got the ASM-V.
As soon as my pad arrives I'll be playing the machine some more - it gets to be a bit uncomfortable after a while crouched over the machine at the controls
Now, if only they would make the pads available and at a realistic, fair price.

Re: TATE Astro mini with Batrider, Batsugun, Outzone and mor
The button you press to select a character determines which variation you get. A, B, or C buttons just means button 1, 2, or 3 on the control panel.
