Sometimes, games that were once intended to be final may end up being resurrected with new refinements.

I do hope that R Type Final 2 allows for simultaneous multiplayer (2P at least, 4P mind-blown).

If this is not an April Fools Prank, then it may be the most epic teaser preview ever done.

Is this game going for other consoles besides PS4 (like Nintendo Switch, PC, or even Xbox One)?

Irem did use to make really elaborate April Fool's jokes back in the day. The trailer and the website is pretty much on par there. But you could usually tell they were April Fool's jokes because the ideas were so out there. I am pretty sure I've seen one of those screenshots before some months ago, in some article about R-Type Final and how they didn't call it Final at first.

I remain skeptical, but would welcome this news with a joyous heart.

To be fair, while not an STG, Fighting Ex Layer was an idea that came out as a possible April Fools joke, but it became real, and besides I doubt the same for R-Type Final 2 being real. (I've even actually played the first R-Type Final back in the day.)

But crowdfunding??? Hmm...

Look, if this is real, I just hope it isn't as hard as the other R-Type games. Just give us the option to remove checkpoints, like in Gradius V. Because checkpoints has been one of my pet peeves with the R-Type series.

On the Japanese side you can find a link to t-shirts commemorating the game but the page says they aren't available on April Fool's Day.

I hope it isn't an April fools. R-Type Final was one of the weaker R-Type games but it had a lot of potential. With better level designs, better pacing and and an OST worthy of the series it could have been a great game, definitely worth a second attempt at some of the new stuff Final brought to the series.

Maybe that's what it is. They started as an April's Fools joke and it got to a point where they felt they could make a full game via crowdfunding.

R-Type is great, ultra modern design with too much dead air (some of which crept into Final) is not.
