Ikaruga Teased For Nintendo Switch

Post by FRO »

I just saw this on Twitter:

Not confirmed, but certainly looking like a strong possibility. Man, it would be so great to be able to do tate Ikaruga, not to mention have the game looking clean on a modern display.

Maybe if they added the challenge and conquest modes I could get excited.

Cool. Won't be the first HD version on a home platform (you can play it on Steam, 360 and Xbone, tated), but it'll be nice having a portable option.

How many times are they going to port this game? Also, ffs bring Radiant Silvergun to Steam.

Cool news, though hardly surprising. The ps4 version already popped up on the german ratings site.
They will probably release all 3 versions simultaneously - ps4, Xbox one and switch.

I was chatting about this with someone on Twitter, and they were hoping for a "Treasure Shooting Collection" of sorts, with RS, Ikaruga, S&P 1/2, and possibly Gunstar Heroes and maybe Astro Boy. Probably a pipe dream, but certainly something I would welcome.

I'd rather see them do something new.

A new Parodius please.

That's an interesting idea. If they could do something as a worthy successor to Sexy Parodius, then yes, by all means!

If they did for Parodius what they did for Gradius on PS2 it would compel me to buy whichever console they developed it for. :) I would love to see what they would do with it on the latest hardware.

Ikaruga keeps being ported because it's
1. easy to port (ready to go in HD)
2. one of the few games Treasure has the publishing rights for
3. one of Treasure's most recognizable/acclaimed/popular games

Treasure moved out of their office and at this point I'm guessing it's just Maegawa and a couple guys working at home, tops? Hope Nakagawa isn't stuck just porting Ikaruga for the rest of time, even if it's his masterpiece.

Anything new from Treasure much less with the production and art requirements of something like Parodius (good luck finding the pixel artists you'd need to do that approach justice lest you end up with a Deathsmiles II situation) seems like a pipe dream, I'd put more hope on something original from M2.

The fact that you ddin't mention Otomedius or Otomedius Excellent says enough about that I think.

If the game can be done justice on the Switch for on-the-go shmup destruction, I'd love to see this act as a possible means of letting others see the potential in getting more on the system.
