G-NET Emulation in MAME

Post by rtw »

Tthe G-NET cards can now be dumped.

The driver will be arriving at a MAME build near you shortly:

http://guru.mameworld.info/

This means you will soon be able to play Raycrisis :D

Did you donate to the dumping team ?

Very cool! I've wanted to compare arcade Raycrisis to the PS1 port.

Nice. Raycrisis AC was a two-player game, correct?

Yep - the arcade version also lacks the pre-boss load times, I believe.

it's got a single, morphing soudtrack throughout the game. Like rayforce, I suppose.

I've only played the PS1 Raycrisis, but in that one you get a different "main theme" depending on your stage order. Rayforce (and Raystorm) just have standard-issue song per stage soundtracks.

The Ray'z ~ Beyond Premium box arranges the RC music into single long tracks, which is a pretty nice listening effect.

How's the gameplay of the Taito G-Card of Space Invaders Anniversary?

And the G-Card version of Takumi's Night Raid also supports two- player co-op mode...ditto about the PSX version of the same name.

I'm pretty sure PSX Night Raid was a 1P affair.

But hey, Night Raid without annoying input glitching!

..eeehhh...XIISTAG without RSA...Psyvariar without autoroll..

...aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhgh

Just some information from Guru about the effort involved to make you all
donate so we can secure dumps of games in the future :D

G-Net is now emulated and should be in a MAME version soon (some finer
details are holding up the code release). But when it is in MAME you can all
play all those great G-Net shooters.

And when you play Raycrisis on your machine think about the cost it took
to bring these games into MAME. It was easily close to USD3000 worth of
G-Net cards that have been acquired and dumped. You can play those
games for free now, but when you do give thanks to the donators that
donated cards and money so they could all be dumped.

If you want to help then consider what MAME with it's 6000+ games
is really worth..... and give some of that back to help improve it.

"Shortly" doesn't mean "instantly". MAME releases are unlikely to wait for new features, especially major new features like a new complex driver with many games that need to be tested.

They may appear in a uX release, and many major new features have been released in the middle of a cycle that way.

Eengh! MAME updates too fast... especially when they keep renaming ROMs...

Also, this might be pretty interesting. At least when I get a new compy: most newer games run like shit in MAME for me [this is why I replaced some of my MAMEd games w/ PSX versions of them].
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

I'm wondering if my Dell XPS 210 can handle this.

It does Tekken 1 & 2 at full frame rate, but skips a few frames on System 12's Tekken 3. The higher speed PS1 CPU is referred to as a CXD8661R, and MAWS claims it runs at 100MHz.

IIRC, the Raycrisis flyer says the G-Net's CPU speed is 50 MHz.

I bet the RSA in XII Stag and the Psyvariar autoroll will make it in as cheats. There has to be some way.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Awesome, i've been waiting for this for the last 6 years.
rtw wrote:Did you donate to the dumping team ?
Back in early '03 when there was first talk about needing XXX.XX amount of cash for the equipment to dump G-Net carts. I sent along the estimated amount of cash needed to buy the equipment (along with a note about how excited I was for GNet emulation), which I guess either didn't work (never found out, but considering it took six years...) or the money was simply used for something else (likely!).

Never wound up on the "Thanks for Donating!" page, though I did somehow wind up on the list of people that were likely to donate more money, so I'd get pumped over AIM for cash whenever a big buy was coming up. Needless to say, I never donated again and most likely never will in the future.

You sure seem to be fishing pretty hard for donations.

But hey, it's finally becoming a reality and I'm looking forward to finally playing Chaos Heat again (haven't played it since ~00) and I'm super interested in checking out the arcade versions of Night Raid and RC de Go.

No need, G-Net emulation is here! Honestly, that's all that really matters.

The Takumi G-Card of Night Raid is awesome in that it support simultaneous two-player mode plus a few little extra details that the PSX port of the same name skimps over in order to play properly on the ol' console. The G-Card version of NR ftw. ^_~

New CHD format? Yes please, I just downloaded 15 GB last week! Then never played them, so it's really all the same to me.

But anyway, 130u1 is the same rev?

Man, I'm gonna be kinda upset if Chaos Heat is awesomesauce and I wasted my chance to use a few of my spare Eurodolers to buy a copy. But another will show up eventually.
