RQ: R-Type Final Level 6 Boss - How can I make it pay?

I am so sick of the R-Type Final level 6 boss. It looks like the boss from R-Type 1 level 2, except I can't kill it. This thing dangles down and then the rope deal flies around me... aggg.... anyone help? I've made it this far (Normal difficulty)

Well, never mind.... I beat him! In fact, I just beat the game for the first time in HUMAN mode!!! Yay!!
