Battletoad // 704,700 // Quaid // 1-5

Slowly getting the hang of stage 5. The first 4 still need a lot of practice as all those small differences keep confusing my timing and shit. Need to play more regularly and learn faster...

I'm also starting to like the game more (I suppose you can only like Dragon Blaze when you can play it well or at least get better at it), but it also makes me rage more than any other game I've played so far, even Under Defeat.

Finally stage 6, yeah. Didn't even notice how I got through stage 5 without dying (except shortly before destroying the 2nd boss part - without tech).

However I still get my ass kicked most of the time. Haven't gotten the extend without dying so far... in fact I've always got it on my last life. I no missed up to 1-4 a few times, but then got crushed mercilessly.

Random because PS2. I practice a bit in MAME with savestates, but the real runs (and most practice) are on the console.

In Psikyo shooters I always loved and hated the random order at the same time as it makes the first stages much more interesting and harder. But in Dragon Blaze it's just madness, I still keep getting surprised at how hard the various bosses in 1-4 are, by now I mostly just bomb them. Still far from having learned everything in the first 4 stages. On the other hand I kind of mastered the tech bonus for every stage as 1-3 (if it wouldn't be for the annoying popcorn groups).

I thought they took down the DB machine in Ground Kontrol - awesome to hear it's still up.

I'm aiming for 1.65m and 2-3 right now and I think I can make it but the goddamn stutter has struck again and I can't play because my computer is crapping out.

RNGmaster - 1,566,600 - Quaid - 2-3

hurr scoring is so hard

This run was nice because, with a nice combination of luckdodges (I didn't even know Psikyo had those) and really madskillz reflex bombs, I no-missed the first loop! Then the second loop was a disaster and I forgot all my paths. Still, 2-3!

By the way, I'm making a FAQ for the ST. What sorts of questions would you like to see, guys?

Should be properly updated, though I did it with a mild fever so can't speak for accuracy. Thanks for the patience.

RNGmaster - 1,664,200 - Quaid - 2-3

Another minuscule improvement I shouldn't be posting.

3 lives 4 bombs into the loop (worse than ideal but who gives a flip). Pretty good scoring. Would have been a no-miss to 2-3 but I was hit by something on the 2-2 boss that I didn't notice (generally I can handle that). The rest of the run was a trainwreck culminating in the single most ignominious final death ever. Here's an inp and the nvram just in case but it still desyncs after the goddamn loop, what the fuck is up with that? :V

I think 1.8m is too easy of a goal to reach, actually. Maybe 1.9 is better.

That was a fun watch. It played back fine when I emptied out the nvram folder.

RNGmaster - 1,754,800 - Quaid - 2-4

Incredible breakthrough run. First death was a stupid, stupid miss in 2-1 after being a bit too zealous with my bomb stock. Second death and third were just jitters on 2-2 and 2-3. Did the 2-3 boss speedkill perfectly and made it through easy easy 2-4 until I moved the wrong way on the fireskaters. Improvements are definitely possible.

Here is the replay.

Apparently if you clear nvram the inp works fine. Live and learn.

<3 naut

Yeah, this run wasn't even that ideal. I don't think I can get very far into 2-5, though, unless I cut out like all of my bomb points for the first loop, so I might hit a plateau soon.

The only plateau you should be reaching is around 4,180,000. Keep up the good work.

Awesome score, RNG! You definitely have what it takes to 2-All.

Concerning the replay, I cleared the nvram folder and the replay still desynchs at the 2-1 boss for me. Not sure if there might be another reason. :?

Eh, I'll get a lower score that way - I'm not just going for a 2-ALL, you know, I want to optimize scoring as well.

My first day sitting down with this, and... I couldn't put it down. So much fun. I just had to get that extend.

Lost my psikyo-laser virginity to the Stage 5 boss, as was expected on my frst fight with him.
