Parts of this have probably been covered in other threads.
I recently learned that when running Gamecube game on Wii the games performance is boosted. This is neatly covered in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=883sOUYt98w
Expect around ~20 %performance boost.
However I also learned that when running the Gamecube games on Wii using Nintendont also allows you to disable deflicker in Gamecube games. Is this possible on Swiss?
What are your experience when running GC games on Wii? Would the increase performance give it an edge over Swiss?
Which games benefits most from the boost? I havent tried Giest yet but that game had awful performance on GC.
Improve performance of Gamecube games on Wii
Re: Improve performance of Gamecube games on Wii
Yes it is possible on Swiss. As far as GC games performance improving on Wii, that makes no sense unless a hack is involved. Wii's GPU and CPU clocks drop down to match GC clocks when playing GC games. Ive played plenty of GC games on Wii and never noted any performance difference at all.
Zelda: TP is an exception, but Im talking the Wii version vs the GC version. The Wii version does not experience the frame drops that happen (albeit very infrequently) on the GC version.

Check the video I linked.Josh128 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 3:15 pm Yes it is possible on Swiss. As far as GC games performance improving on Wii, that makes no sense unless a hack is involved. It clearly shows performance boost on Wii.
The Wii CPU is more powerful than GC.

Re: Improve performance of Gamecube games on Wii
I actually didn't know about this at all- if you check WobblingPixel's video Josh you can see it's Nintendont bypassing the downclock. I'd imagine there's potentially some games that don't like that but very cool to have an option like PS4 Pro's boost mode for non-enhanced games.
Other than the games in the video, what other titles benefit? I also saw a comment on 60 fps patches for GameCube games on Wii?

Re: Improve performance of Gamecube games on Wii
Nintendont and Devolution run on Wii mode with the Wii mode CPU and GPU clock speeds by patching the games, albeit with completely different approaches as Devolution mostly works in assembly and PowerPC side with stock IOS 58, meanwhile Nintendont patches things through IOS and also runs some code on the "Starlet".
GameCube mode speeds should be practically the same to a real GameCube for almost any practical use.

I just tried out Geist, which is a late GC game which runs with awful framerate on of hardware.Rulumi wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 4:40 pm Nintendont and Devolution run on Wii mode with the Wii mode CPU and GPU clock speeds by patching the games, albeit with completely different approaches as Devolution mostly works in assembly and PowerPC side with stock IOS 58, meanwhile Nintendont patches things through IOS and also runs some code on the "Starlet".

I noticed much better fps when running on Wii.

Re: Improve performance of Gamecube games on Wii
The Super Mario Sunshine 60 FPS patch runs quite nicely on Wii. It can't quite hold it but it has a setup similar to dynamic vsync and will switch to some slight tearing below 60 instead of dropping to 30 or 40 with vsync. Haven't run into anything horribly game breaking yet but I'm sure there are some weird physics interactions.
Curious about any setting to change in Nintendont to improve video quality, and any games people remember running poorly on GameCube to try!

Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike should benefit nicely from it.

Is it this patch you are using on Mario Sunshine? https://gamebanana.com/mods/445431bobrocks95 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:30 am The Super Mario Sunshine 60 FPS patch runs quite nicely on Wii. It's in .DOL format. How does one patch it on the ISO?

Re: Improve performance of Gamecube games on Wii
I got it from the Dolphin wiki (https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php? ... ine#60_FPS) and compiled it into a .gct with this site https://mariokartwii.com/gct/. Then just put it in the right folder on the SD and enable cheats in Nintendont and it'll load it automatically.RebeL9 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 7:50 pmIs it this patch you are using on Mario Sunshine? https://gamebanana.com/mods/445431bobrocks95 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:30 am The Super Mario Sunshine 60 FPS patch runs quite nicely on Wii.
