French RGB Master System 2 and GBS Control

Post by LoCr1aN »

Hi there,

My first post here. Im from Europe and i recently start recollecting the consoles i had through my life as a kid/tenager.

I've keept my Megadrive 1 through all this years, alongside with the Dreamcast and my nintendo wii, but I had to buy back the Saturn model 1, the Master System and i still have to buy a NES and a PS2.

My idea is to hook all of them to my hdmi computer monitor due to lack of space for a crt.

What i have so far is a Retro Gaming Cables scart swith (retrotink model) hooked to a pre built GBS Control (https://a.aliexpress.com/_EIiMR9P).
Saturn, Megadrive and Master System are connected via Scart on the scart switch. Wii is connected via Components directly on the Gbs control.

All work with great upscale quality with the exception of the French Master System. I've tried every setting combination on GBS, connecting with the switch and without the switch. The best i can get is something like this (original post I've made on reddit): https://www.reddit.com/r/retrogaming/s/QsOKKzGLS9

I have to add up that i have no electrical skills at all, so a solution that doesn't involve nodding would be great.

I've tried the Master System in a regular Triniton CRT and it works as good as the Mega Drive and Saturn.

Thanks in advance for the help you may provide.

Are you using the original French Master System 2 SCART cable (Sega Model 3085) not a third-party SCART cable designed for the European Master System 1/Mega Drive 1?

The motherboards in French Sega systems are designed differently to the European versions (At least up until the Mega Drive 2 was released) and the European Master System 1/Mega Drive 1 SCART cables don't use the same components as the French models.

You can find the original French Sega SCART cables by searching for "master system peritel" on ebay.fr:-

Here are some photos of the PCB inside of the plastic casing:-

Yes, I'm using the original 'RVB' cable that came with it. Same as the one in that photo.

Quick update. Using my Megadrive scart cables results in steady image, however brightness is lowered due to the lack of the amplification that is present on the original Master System RVB cable.
