Developing a new shmup in Godot 4

Post by FriesForLife »

Hi,
Brand new to the site. I have been developing this game for about 8 months now part time and want some feedback. The game is called "Solar Ember Rush".
I am trying out this genre and built this game in Godot 4. It has some music (very generic). A really simple upgrade system. You can flip the ship, change your weapons from blaster to laser. I made a tutorial level (first time making that).
The levels are short and sweet, and the art is all made in Aseprite.
It's on itch, any feedback whether, bad or good is much appreciated!

I think the movement of the ship feels solid. The overall level seems solid.
Question, when you switch the ship from side to side, was it intentional to have it turn upward when switching sides?
If not I would see if it is possible to turn the ship and remain parallel.

Yep, it is intentional, because later, you use that for shooting in an arc to defeat enemies from above. You can use the laser weapon like a light sabre in level 5 to destroy energy orbs!
Hopefully that makes sense, I will link the level 5 boss I posted on Youtube so you can see it in action. Thanks for the feedback!

I love the smoke when the boss is damaged and the colision effect when when you hit enemies.
I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
