Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
One of my machines, I get redirected to vps-3576da.stackvps .com [remove the space] when coming here. Tried in Chrome and FF. Throws up an SSL error since the cert is registered for shmups.system11.org [and appears to be identical on the machines where I don't get redirected to the other address]
Is it a site misconfiguration, or is something happening on my end?
[edit]
I flushed the DNS cache on that system and it's working again, so it almost certainly was on my end.

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
Hope everything works out. Just wanted to chime in and express my appreciation of this hopeful news. I don't mind re-editing my tables too much (though my 90-something 1cc list is going to hurt).

One some postings the "JOINED" line on the left doesn't wrap into a second line, hence running too long and clashing with the text in the posting. Makes some postings harder to read.....

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
It does this to me too on Firefox mobile. It claims it can't connect, gives a Try Again and Advanced button, and under Advanced it claims the SSL certificate isn't signed, etc, but you can Accept The Risk And Continue to get it working:
"Someone could be trying to impersonate the site and you should not continue.
Websites prove their identity via certificates. Firefox does not trust https://vps-3576da.stackvps.com/ because its certificate issuer is unknown, the certificate is self-signed, or the server is not sending the correct intermediate certificates."

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
Hmm, I just gave it a second check and the DNS flush might not have fixed it -- it works in Chrome on this machine, but not in FF. Bleh.

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
I just noticed that when you are typing or editing a post, the cancel button no longer appears. I guess it probably doesn't really matter that much, but it was there before and it's gone now, so it is a loss of functionality.

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
I was getting the redirect (also on Firefox), but then I tried going to index.php (instead of just https://shmups.system11.org) and didn't get the redirect. Now I'm not getting the redirect on https://shmups.system11.org either.
Could be coincidence, maybe something got fixed while I was faffing about.

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
Never thought I’d be around to see this place get a visibility update. Admittedly I’ll miss the old look, but this one isn’t bad, and it sounds like you had some backdoor reasons for it. Wonder how this’ll effect the feel of reading old threads… it’s a small revision of history.
I’ll second that the posts being semitransparent makes the actual text less readable. I’d definitely appreciate some kind of change or maybe adding a zero-transparency option. And also the clickable forum logo, but that definitely feels less important.
It might be worth posting your current to-do list in order of priority here, in case people think certain changes should be bumped up or down. As long as the conversation doesn’t spiral off into arguing over that ^^;

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
There's some weirdness with the redirects and vhosts going on, annoying only for other people it "just works" for me.

I will read through again and summarise the bugs / strangeness so far later. I just bounced it a couple of times since there was definitely a bug in the httpd configuration that might have been causing the 'true' hostname to periodically appear.

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
Super nitpick this one, but I don't like the way the text panels are transparent so the stars background is visible though them. It really messes with my ability to scan text on screen, and it makes the screen just too busy visually. The old board wasn't like this was it? If it was, then something feels off, maybe the level of transparency, or brightness? The Quick Links / Feedback menu at top of screen is not transparent.
Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
Yes the stars were on the old forum but a lot of people it seems were using the 'lite' theme that was just solid. It's on the list to do but not a priority compared to other things. Tables are current top of the list.bcass wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 11:50 pm Super nitpick this one, but I don't like the way the text panels are transparent so the stars background is visible though them. Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
That table looks pretty good, and it seems the tables are starting to reappear again in the forum. Old tables are still looking pretty wrecked though, as this screencap of the old JPN difficulty chart can attest:
Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
Yes unfortunately the old tables will all need to be re-done... The BBCODE parser simply changed in ways making the old impossible to use. For the really big ones it could be quite painful, I'm trying to work out if I could at least make a script that can transform a text file to paste in place.

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
New tables are enabled / available, they work differently. I'm sorry, it's more typing - the only way to create a shorthand formatting version would be for the entire table to be written on a single line...
The hover help explains as follows:
It would look like this:
Example (part of maximo's Raiden DX chart):
Before:
After:
Result:
If you have access to a Linux machine I wrote a script that can take the R= lines and turn them into a table, behold tablefix.sh, R= lines have been pasted into a text file "rdx"
Here's the actual script (NOTE it does not like question marks so you might have to tidy the output):
I already fixed maximo's topic, where people have really big tables and they're unable to use the above script ping me and I will help. I'll do that Japanese difficulty chart one in a minute. Edit: also fixed the live stream index
The hover help explains as follows:
Code: Select all
Example table:

Cool, thanks. If it's not too much trouble, the Perikles list could use it, too, and Perikles probably isn't coming back to fix it.

Thank you so much for all the efforts, system11! The new tables look fantastic. I'm going to re-do all my stuff on here eventually.
Very glad this issue has been solved.

Great. The script works fine on Windows via git/Cygwin too.
The high score board index wants fixing, although it's also not very maintained at the moment.
Minor thing - I don't like the pagination div being on the right side and below all the other text. Makes it hard to tell which thread it's for. Changing float:right to float:left and adding some padding makes it much more intuitive.

Re: New forum software / theme bugs thread
For Windows machines I made a Powershell script to do the table conversion.
Instructions: Save that as TableFix.ps1 (or whatever, really). In the same folder create Table.txt and place the original table code there, like so:
If you've used another table to create a prettier header, remove that. So no this:
But like this:
Run the Powershell file, and it'll create NewTable.txt with the updated code. I only tested the code on a few tables but it seemed to work alright.
Code: Select all
$OldTable = Get-Content -Path $(Join-Path -Path $PSScriptRoot -Child "Table.txt")
$LineBreak = "`r`n"
$NewTable = '[table="Table name"]'
$NewTable += $LineBreak
foreach ($Row in $OldTable) {
$NewRow = "[tr]"
$NewRow += $Row.replace("[table]","") | % {$_.replace("[/table]","")} | % {$_.replace("R=","[td]")} | % {$_.replace("&","[/td][td]")}
$NewRow += "[/td][/tr]$LineBreak"
$NewTable += $NewRow
}
$NewTable += "[/table]"
$NewTable | Set-Content -Path $(Join-Path -Path $PSScriptRoot -Child "NewTable.txt")
Code: Select all
[table]R=RANK & SCORE & PLAYER & STAGE & AUTOFIRE & PLAYERSIDE & REPLAY/IMAGE
R=1. & 6,806,000 & maximo & 2-4 & Yes & 2P & [url=https://youtu.be/HlumiTbBLYA]Video[/url]
R=1. & 4,651,350 & Erppo & 2-1 & Yes & 2P & [url=http://i.imgur.com/prNBPSE.png]Image[/url]
R=2. & 4,118,430 & Emo Fox Jet Pilot & 1-6 & Yes & 2P&[/table]
Code: Select all
[table]R=Zone H[/table][table]R=# & Name & Score & Ship & Version
R=WR & JIS. & 227,399,400 & Genesis & DBACEX

The new table format works great, thanks. It takes a bit more setup making sure you have all the right # of td tags lined up, but once it's in place it's as easy as before to work. Great job!

[s]Can anyone confirm if PMs are working okay? I tried to send someone a message, and it appeared to send, but there's no record of it in my sent folder. And then when I tried again, the place to input the user name section disappeared and there was no longer that option. Just the message box and subject box.[/s]
Edit: Nevermind, seems to be working. Not sure what happened, but it seems fine.

Still very much hoping that we can get a link to the board index behind that logo on the top.
And another request: external links open in the same window/tab, so each click on an external link basically make you leave the forum. I think on the previous version those defaulted to open in a new window/tab instead, isn't that right ? Would be great if we could get that again.

I posted it in the wrong thread, but I'm also getting that redirect thing on my normal computer, which I've been getting for weeks. I thought the site had been hacked and taken over by malware. I'm on a different computer at the moment and it works here.
