Sony BVM-A14F5M with BKM-68x. What i need to know?!

Post by wwse »

Hello everybody.
Sorry for my bad english, but i am not a native speaker(writer).

Today I got my BVM A14F5M with options:
1. BKM-62HS
HD SDI/SDI Input Adaptor
2. BKM-61D
SDI/Analog Multi Input Adaptor
3. BKM-68X
Analog Component Input Adaptor
4. BKM-14L
Auto Set-up Probe

I ask you to help solve a couple of questions:
1. How do I wash crt screen? Is microfiber and distilled water suitable?
2. Hot to clean BVM inside? I found a video on YouTube(link https://youtu.be/HdvyxnkDBco), but i cant find the same spray. Will another works? I found WD-40® Specialist® Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray? Will it fit?
3. What BNC to RGB scart cable i need to buy in https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/son ... s/sony-pvm?
a. Male SCART to 4 x BNC + 2 x RCA breakout
b. Female RGBS SCART to 4 x BNC adapter cable for Sony PVM/ BVM monitors
c. SCART to 4 x BNC adapter cable plus built in sync separator
4. What is solution to connect S-Video to my BVM? I suspect that I need some kind of 2xBNC to S-video input and connect it directly to BKM-61D.
5. ~8000 crt hours it good or bad?

Thank you for answering!!!

1: Perfectly fine. If it's dirtier, you could also carefully try some non-aggressive glass cleaning agent. Try to avoid spilling it below the bezel (the frame around the front of the glass tube)

2. Just one thing: absolutely be careful and knowledgable about what you're doing. Touching components there can be dangerous to life, as there often remain high voltages even after power is turned off and unplugged for longer periods. You have to properly discharge the tube before doing anything. In the video this is not done - this is bad. Please research this topic beforehand.

3: Depends on what you want to connect and how.
  • If you want to connect a console directly, I would go with c.
This enables you to get clean csync from consoles that only output sync over composite video. Although there are better ways of stripping csync from composite video, this is a start.

If you want to connect a SCART switch, then you'll most certainly want a.
5. I'd say medium. This is a little bit of wear for this model, but you still have a good chance of having many fun hours with the device.

I'll pass on 2 and 4 :P

TC said 8k hours. That's nothing on one of these. It depends on how it was used of course, but good bets are on it not needing any kind of maintenance for a long long time still.

The person who sold me my BVM said it was a replacement monitor in the studio. I carefully inspected the monitor and I see that the top cover was never opened. The top cover itself has some scratches, but the screws on the sides do not have any signs of torsion.

Thank you, could you give an example of such a cleaning agent? if it contains alcohol, please indicate its maximum content in the product.

1 - If it has an anti-glare film, a damp paper towel shoudl be fine. If it's glass, I just use Windex.
2 - I'd use compressed air in a can and not bother with liquid solutions.
3 - I'd use this and also buy the newest gscartsw with sync regeneration to help compatibility of the 68x:

4 - Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/S-Video-Adapter- ... B004GIDT00
5 - That's great.

Enjoy the monitor!
