I was looking at the screenshots on the official page earlier and couldn't help but think the game has reverted back to the slightly untidy art direction/style that the first game and evolutions had.

The second game had some really good design going on but this looks in many ways like a backwards step. I could never really get into the first game as I got the impression that it was never sure what it wanted to be.

Yeah I think the screenshots aren't that good as well. But I always wait to see things in motion because it could be smooth as hell.
I've already been fooled in the past by looking at screenshots and saying "it sucks" and then seeing stuff moving and realize it's good.
Also, the dynamics might prove to be as intriguing as the first SNS (ps the artwork r0x).
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

The characters and "style" are okay. But like other Type-X games, everything else visually falls in the "crap" category... backgrounds mainly. There's always a line to play it though... hopefully it'll get a PS2 port, so I can play it for a week.

@captain ahar:
To me it looks more like it´s a problem with the pic than with the actual game. I get this effect quite often when I save a screenshot as a *.jpg instead as a*.bmp. If you look carefully, you can see this "dirt" is all over the pic. I wouldn´t worry too much about it. I´d say the problem with Type-X games is that they often look too clean, making them bland and lifeless.

I don't think he was refering to the jpg artifacting, but rather the figures suggestive pose.

I have to admit I wasn´t. I guess I played too many games with hentai content. I don´t even notice things like that anymore unless they jack up the "suggestiveness" a few notches.

The woman in the top row very center; she is Kim's sister and has the same attack characteristic. :)

The chica with 2P over her head is closest.

There's a fantastic breakdown of all the characters in this months Arcadia mag (actual play characteristic, rating, explanation...unlike the official webpage with just story info).

Also, there will be a score trial competition open from March through June, like had for Shiki II's arcade debut.

Short videos up: Double-play of 3-1 w/Kuga and Hyuga (1P=2P a la VTF-INO) and single-play of 4-2 boss w/Kuga.

edit- Neglected to tell the players handle...fixed.

Yesterday I played Shikigami I with a friend again on Xbox. I couldn't remember it sucks so bad... I mean, I was pretty much happy when Shikigami II came out, but I never spend to much time with it.

Now, compared to Radirgy, part I is pretty mediocre. And on the other side I'm a bit content that Radirgy is so much better than I thought and far away from mediocre.

Thanks for the link to those videos, oxtsu! :D

I'm not that big a fan of 1 either, but I do like the series as a whole, and I love 2! From what I've seen of III, it looks just as good as any of the other games in the series, in terms of background graphics. I think the first and second one's had more firey explosions, but it still looks great overall, IMO. Maybe we've all just been so spolied by Naomi lately!

The videos look fine. Interesting how stage 3-1 seems to be composed of shifting walls just like the much dreaded stage 3-1 in Shiki II.

The backgrounds do look a bit bland, but the gameplay looks absolutely great to me. The patterns are quite creative again, it seems.

I'm looking forward to it.

Aye....Alfa System seems to follow set patterns with the Shiki series. Shiki 1 3-1 with the walls, Shiki 2 3-1 with the walls, Shiki 3-1 with the walls.... Also, notice how the boss in that vid circles around the player constantly...very reminiscent of the brothers in Shiki 2. Only after playing 1 did I realize how much of a letdown the final boss of 2 would be to anyone who played them in the right order.

Does anyone know of some samples from the OST? I would like to buy it, from what i'm hearing from the videos.
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

Another video, Stage 1-1 w/Batou.

http://www.geocities.jp/muultra/

In this one we can see clearly the new High Tension Max system. Press A+B (or D if the operator set it up) to engage and you will be in x8 for 10 seconds (see the red bar in upper left part of the screen), regardless where the player is in relation to the enemies. It's not that easy though, the High Tension is dosed like a bomb stock, not unlimited like suggested earlier. I believe the High Tension Max and Bombs share the same stock, but not 100% sure on that.

Phew, thank goodness...I wasn't quite sure what to make of those earlier impressions, heh heh. Now it sounds like it's just another risk/reward addition to the scoring system (as if this game needed any more, heh heh), hopefully it works out well.

Well, i really want to see if they implemented it well, it sounds like a potentially nice addition, as an extra element of strategy.

Should be good for keeping up the scoring in areas that are lacking in bullets or scratchable scenery. Thankfully it's stock-based and not gauge-refill based.

Thanks for the video link.
