Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
Yeah -- I put it in the title head. Should we just get rid of the spoiler tags from now on? They don't seem to be that useful at this point. I mean, who is coming in here to ask if it's a good show.
That being said...
As for where the story is going, I think we can probably ask ourselves that same question when it's all said and done. I think key points this far:
-Dougie was "manufactured" for a purpose [but has a (hot) wife and kid, so was manufactured a while back presumably]
-Phillip Jeffries obviously is going to play pretty big into this
-The NYC shenanigans
-Of course, what Hawk is investigating
Too bad the original show was on broadcast TV. An Audrey scene a la Two Moon Junction would have changed my childhood.
That being said...
I think I misunderstood dan76's question/comment. I know that Evil Coop is looking for Phillip Jeffries (Bowie!), but was talking to someone else on da phone. He's clearly trying to not go back to the lodge. Are we sure that Annie is really dead? I know Heather Graham is absent from the huge roster of actors. What a shame... I do remember Lynch listing Laura Dern's roll as "pivotal". But to claim she's Dianne? I guess it's plausible.100% its Diane (Laura Dern) .. Annie for sure she's dead
Laura she's coming..her double or somthing

You'll be waiting about 11 days, actually. Good thing I got shit to do between now and then. Although I think at this point I should watch 1-4 again and take notes.kaicooper wrote:im gonna watch 4 episodes again now..

Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
Could the glass box be some sort of scanner to "image" Cooper in order to make Dougie? That information would need to be sent back in time for Dougie to have such a complex life.
Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
It's a good idea not to have to use spoiler tags but I know nothing about the cast list so I guess that could ruin a part of this for me. If anyone has a leak or info about an unaired episode / cast member or character they know will be appearing I'd suggest CAUTION! Otherwise I'll bow out.
Discussing the episodes that have aired is fine.

I'm for this. Maybe use Spoiler Tags for anything you know that was not shown in an aired episode? I guess the cast list (which has been available for a while) would be a sticking point. Very few new cast members are listed as their characters. (Michael Cera would have been a notable one). Loads of big names still yet to come, but even the ones that are named, won't give away too much as their place in the timeline is still unknown.dan76 wrote: Discussing the episodes that have aired is fine.
More important is the names that are definitely missing. A few we know are deceased (Frank Silva, very unfortunately), some are "retired from acting", and others in the vein of Twin Peaks, are quite the mystery. Two specific examples on those last two but I won't ruin it for ya.

Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
I am just starting to watch Twin Peaks now, as it has been on my bro's Amazon account for a while. I am just at the finale of S1 - I think it might be the best television I've watched in ages.
Any expectations for Season 2? Skipping some episodes? Not as bad as people say? My older bro tells me things get rough for quite a bit after the "mystery" is wrapped up, and that might sap the enthusiasm to keep watching. He has told me good things about Season 3 and seems to enjoy it, though he never struck me as a big Lynch fan (I don't think he is - he just loves Twin Peaks).
That unwatched blu-ray of Eraserhead is still taunting me...

You should still watch the entirety of season two, although Lynch himself admitted that he thought season two, sucked.
Then you must watch, "Fire Walk With Me," thereby proceeding to season 3.

Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
He is right for the most part. As you probably know, the big reveal happens in Season 2 somewhat early on, all things considered. After that, there are some interesting bits but by and large, it was aimless. Someone from CBS should have been fired, for sure. So, if you want to hurry up and jump into the new stuff, you can watch like 1 or 2 episodes after the reveal, then watch the last 3... then the prequel (this is far more important than the stuff in S2, and way more enjoyable). If you have the time though, just barrel through the episodes.EmperorIng wrote: Any expectations for Season 2? Skipping some episodes? Not as bad as people say? Man, you guys haven't watched Eraserhead? Great date movie.
Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
Done watching ep4. Damn I want moar.
Season 3 got some new flavors mixed in it but it's still ye olde weird and funny Twin Peaks recipe, and it's a genuine sequel.
What a delight for the droves of retrofucks like us who can't stand this 21st century.
Which makes me wonder wtf is wrong with the negative critics; they're either too young or too lame to have ever gotten why Lynch's shit is dope.

Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
I just finished watching the first four episodes. It's so good. Every scene is mesmerising from start to finish. I've been a Lynch fan since the 80s and I think this is his best material yet. It feels highly experimental, but not to the extent that it's alienating. I think this series will be seen as a big success and we will see something of a resurgence of Lynch.
Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
A resurgence or a scheduled job I don't know, what if he's only following the script? like when I've first learned about season 3 I was like "Lynch couldn't have waited 25 years in real life on purpose, could he?", I know this isn't supposed to be the case, but with that man I'm not too sure about anything.

Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
I actually liked a lot of season 2 - but then again one of my favourite characters is Ben Horne and he is featured quite a bit. I think Lynch was still heavily involved. He directed the best episodes and he is in a few episodes he didn't direct playing Gordon Cole. So I think he was around overseeing stuff. There's an interview with Letterman from 91 where he asks the audience to write in to the network to support the show. He reads out the address of Bob Iger. edit, here's the link:EmperorIng wrote: Any expectations for Season 2? Skipping some episodes? Not as bad as people say? Watch everything. The great thing about Twin Peaks is that there is so much to it everyone enjoys different things. I bet some people somewhere even like James.
On a different note I noticed Season 3 is being edited by Duwayne Dunham who was an editor on seasons 1 and 2. He also directed a few episodes and (fact fans) was the original Boba Fett! Good to see more continuity with the original show.

A dude randomly walking around in a Bobba Fett costume could be Twin Peaks' cowboy.

FYI Showtime has Fire Walk With Me (FWWM) streaming as part of their subscription (in the US at least). They also have a free 30 day trial that can be cancelled any time. App supports Chromecast.
Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
I've re watched the 4 episodes. These are the things I took note of. It's a bit pointless because every scene is probably important in some way.
At the very start the giant says the following:
430
Richard and Linda
Two birds with one stone
Cooper says "I understand".
Looks like Matthew Lillard's character has been set up by his wife Phylis, who is killed by evil Coop. He says to her something about understanding humans well - is she a clone that's been made for a purpose?
Evil Coop wants information from Hastings secretary (who is Hastings?) - something to do with coordinates, but she will only tell Ray. Ray and Daria have been hired by someone to kill evil Coop - but we don't know by who. After killing Darya evil Coop talks to Philip Jefferies (Bowie's character) and says that he met with General Briggs, he then checks out a federal prison (in Dakota I think). On the map screen there is a place with "lodge" in it's name - can't remember. Not sure if that's relevant.
The evolution of the Arm says to Cooper "253 time and time again".
At the start of episode 3 when Cooper approaches that weird wall plaque it has a number 15 on it and he can't enter it. He is able to enter when the number is 3 - that's when he replaces Dougie. Is 15 evil Cooper? Are there 14 Cooper clones that have been made for a purpose?
It was great to watch all the episodes again, and some things were more enjoyable the second time around - Wally Brando is fucking funny.

15 is three o'clock in the afternoon in military time. Also, I love the special effects, they're quite timeless and movie magic IMHO. Watching the map on Evil Coop's computer felt like something outta Scooby Doo, in a good way.

The font of the numbers 15 and 3 are that of an exterior house number. Addresses to the cigarette lighter in bad Coop's car and that that house in Dougie's town?
They remind me of the lot numbers in that trailer park in FWWM.

Re: David Lynch-gasm: Twin Peaks The Return [SPOILERS GALORE
There's some interesting ideas over at Neogaf.
Quoting PolishQ:
"The font used for the 15 and 3 remind me a lot of the "6" telephone pole in the Fat Trout Trailer Park from FWWM. I think the simplest explanation is that they represent different electrical destinations - in this case "15" being the cigarette lighter outlet in Evil Coop's car, and "3" being the outlet near Dougie."
Also this from PolishQ:
"The Arm tells Cooper that he can go now, but that his doppelganger has to come back in. Cooper walks down the hall and opens the curtains. He sees his doppelganger driving down the road. Presumably the "normal" scenario would then have been that the doppelganger gets pulled into the Lodge and Cooper could simply step out into the world.
Cooper's doppelganger has a plan, though - he (or someone) has manufactured Dougie and given him the ring, so that Dougie will be targeted by the Lodge instead of the doppelganger. His relatively low amount of garmonbozia may have ensured that he was pulled in before the doppelganger as well, but I'm not sure where the garmonbozia came from. Maybe garmonbozia was used to manufacture him? In any case, I believe that's the extent of the doppelganger's plan: create a decoy to take his place in the Lodge.
In addition to Cooper's doppelganger's plan, the Arm's doppelganger ALSO (independently) interferes and sends Cooper to the space basement (with a pit stop in the glass box several days prior). Now Cooper has to use the electrical backdoor to escape the Lodge, so to speak. And like I said before, I believe the differently numbered panels simply lead to different "exit points" (in space, not time). The exit time is already set: 2:53 (as per The Arm). That's when the doppelganger's allotted time expires."
Makes pretty good sense to me. The wait for episode 5 is killing me. If they do two episodes I'm going to space them out. What mistake. I used up 4 hours of new Lynch in one day.
