Holy shit. I think Lynch just broke TV.

The head rising out of bad-Coops dead chest is one of the most sinister things I've seen in recent memory.

Thanks to Vanity Fair for pointing this out. Wonder if Lynch was considering that classic line.

I can't believe how good this show is, definitely my favourite Lynch work so far. I have been planning my schedule for the last couple of weeks so that I can watch each episode as soon as it's released, and when I watch them my eyes are practically riveted to the screen in a manner I can't remember to have experienced, at least in a very very long time. Lately I have been developing a habit of giving up on movies that aren't intriguing enough for me, and have been bashing myself for not being able to dedicate myself to watching film the way I used to... not so with The Return, it's truly like I never want the episodes to ever end! Part 7 was by far the least interesting episode for me, but Part 8 definitely pulled me back in. I'll be counting the days until Part 9.

Unfortunately you'll be counting twice as many days as between most episodes. :(

Two weeks wait for the next one is a real bummer, but a good excuse to rewatch the first 8 episodes again! Episode 8 alone deserves a couple of rewatches. It was simply sublime television and shows what can be done when you try something different. Honestly, it's a miracle that this has been made at all, and that every episode has been gold so far, well, we are being spoilt I think. What a bounce-back for Lynch though. I hope it's garnering lots of new fans. I also hope we see some local arthouse screenings of all episodes at some point too so they can be appreciated on the big screen.

My wife was so fucking turned off by the latest episode the literately stormed out of the room when the lights had flashed for a while. I'm pretty glad she missed the rest of the episode, so I could enjoy it without further interference.

You guys think there's any link between what's shown in this episode and the mushroom cloud picture hanging in Gordon's office? The teenage girl that slept through the end credits, is she the first vessel for the Black Lodge demons?

Having finally watched the Missing Pieces from FWWM on YouTube today, I'm sure the Woodsman is clearly one of the inhabitants above the Convenience Store.

Season 3 has been up and down for me. The surrealist stuff can be interesting, but not when it takes up 75% of an episode like with this last one. The focal point of Twin Peaks has been the characters and the interaction between them. The eerie stuff, particularly the non-spoken surrealist content, played second fiddle to that in the first two seasons. This latest episode (and much of Episode 3) is the polar opposite of that. No offense, Lynch, but if I wanted to watch Eraserhead, I would freakin' watch Eraserhead again. Episodes like this last one just lead me to believe that you don't have 18 episodes worth of content and are padding things out. In response to an earlier comment, I don't blame people wanting to walk out on episodes like that.

As per many times before, this is more of a continuation of FWWM and not the TV show (the 2nd half of which Lynch hates and was not totally involved with). If you saw FWWM which was made after the TV show and expected him to go back to the serialized cheese opera, I don't know what to tell you. Only one episode of The Return has completely surprised in me in terms of content and that was part 8. The president of Showtime even called it the "Pure Heroin Version of Lynch" months before it was released.

I just got through watching this. I liked about half of it.

The cut to the bomb going off, the music and images were brilliant. It reminded me of Kubrick's 2001. It also featured music by Penderecki which Kubrick used in The Shining. Lynch is a huge fan of so it's not accidental. However, as great as the editing, music and images were it did go on a bit. There comes a point where if anything can happen it all becomes meaningless.

Seems like it's two steps forwards, two steps back with regards to a conventional plot. Anyone else think that as soon as evil Coop got shot good Coop would wake up?

Two weeks wait... Seems Lynch wants to tell a huge tale with this one.

Really loving the new series. I kinda felt like I was getting in the grove with the series with all the Dougie shenanigans and other subplots seeming to be just ticking over nicely. So naturally part 8 came as a glorious surprise to me. Can't wait to see what else Lynch's unshackled mind has in store for us!

I read this over on Neogaf:

I'm not sure about any of that, and if it turns out to be true, I guess I'm still not sure about it. I think some of it must reference The Secret History of Twin Peaks. Babylon is what that thing that appeared in the box was (?).

One week to go. Might re watch episode 7.

I doubt we're ever going to get an answer on any of that... we shall see though.
White Sands and whatnot was indeed referenced in the book, but there was nothing definitive on any dimensional rifts that it might have caused.
