What does Wait Control in R-Types (ps1) do?

Post by Ajora »

I have no idea what this actually does.
There was a time, in the era of great chaos, when the Earth and the moon were at war with each other. A daredevil from the moon piloted a bizarre aircraft. It was feared, and because of its shape, called... Einhander.

It recreates the slowdown inherent in the arcade original, if memory serves.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Haha, perfect timing for this thread! I've only had my Saturn a week and I was playing Gradius II today and got to the grabby things right before the eyeball boss and everything was smooth. I died and went into the menu to turn on continues (just to have the option, not saying I'd use it ) and I saw "Wait Control" was off. Since it was right under the continue option, I figured it meant you could make the countdown go faster by pushing the button (controlling the wait!), which I like to do. So, I turned it on. Got back to the grabby things and got a lot of slowdown. Was bummed, and then something clicked in my head and I turned off the wait control. Back to smooth! 8)

What's really stupid is, I have Gradius on PSP and knew "Wait Level" controlled the amount of slowdown. It was the different wording and placement under the continue option that threw me off.
