I am having trouble finding a solution to my install problem. I have tried searching and read several long threads but haven't found exactly what I'm getting. So please forgive me if I just missed it, but here is my problem.
This weekend, I installed an NESrgb board in my front-load NTSC NES and I also installed the multi-out connector from retrofixes.com. The install was slow but it was fairly easy. Once I was done, I fired it up and tested it out. Sound is great. S-video looks wonderful, and the RGB is beautiful. All this works flawlessly.
My issue is, I'm not getting a picture if I use the composite cable in the multi out. I can hook up the regular red/yellow cable to the old jacks and it works perfectly, but if I use the regular old SNES composite cord in the multi-out, I get a fuzzy, gray screen and I can barely make out some details here and there of a picture. I know I will probably almost never use composite again, but I'd like to have it working just in case I ever do need it. So here is some info on my install and if anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong for composite video connections I'd appreciate it.
1. Using this cable for RGB, works flawlessly https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/nin ... -wire-cord
2. Using this cable for s-video, works flawlessly https://www.amazon.com/Gam3Gear-SNES-Ni ... ideo+cable
3. I soldered J5
4. I connected pin 9 of the multi-out (composite video) to the tab labeled V on the nesrgb board. This tab is labeled "composite video out encoded from rgb".
5. I tried jumper J8 both open and shorted and the problem persists.
I think I may have to move the composite connection from V (encoded composite) to PPUV (composite from PPU), but before I open the system up again I wanted to ask around and see if this is my problem and also to learn why it's not working as connected. Thanks in advance for any knowledge/advise.

Re: Nes RGB and multi-out connector help
I don't think that composite from the PPU will work while the NESRGB is turned on. The NESRGB has the PPU output a simple black and white image that tags pixels as foreground and background so that the NESRGB knows from which palette to select, IIRC.
You wired both 5 and 6 to ground? You're sure you're using an NTSC SNES composite cable and not a PAL one?

Re: Nes RGB and multi-out connector help
I wired the palette switch so the center position is off. According to the instructions, this puts the board in a "pass through" mode to allow composite video out. I put the switch in the off position and it still didn't work. I tried all three positions for good measure and still no luck.
I am positive I am using the correct composite cord. I have verified id works on my NTSC SNES, NTSC Gamecube and my Super Famicom.
And yes on the ground. Both 5 and 6 are wired to ground.

You'll have to move your composite video wire to the PPUV pad in order for the original composite video signal to work.

Re: Nes RGB and multi-out connector help
Thanks for the advise, ApolloBoy. I figured this would be the case. I will get it next time I go into the case.
Do you know the reason that composite encoded from RGB isn't working? I'd just like to know to better my understanding. I'm still new to this and have been just following other people's guides for this and my other mods so far.
