PS1 shmup releases on Japanese PSN store

Post by SideshowN »

I'm trying to buy the PS1 Shmups that are exclusive to the Japanese PSN store on PS3. I tried browsing the Japanese PSN store with my Japanese account and can only see Einhander and DoDonPachi. I could of swore there were more titles available but possible I'm not searching well enough. Same thing goes for PS2 shmups released digitally only on the japanese PSN store. Any help finding a list would be great.

Here's the list of ever Classic available of Japan.
Good luck finding them, it's really long.

I found G-Darius, Xevious 3D/G+, Zanac X Zanac, DonPachi, RayStorm and Philosoma (bleah). There could be others of which the name I can't recognize.

Thanks for the links, that helps tremendously. I was surprised to find Xevious 3D/G+ and Zanac X Zanac in the NA PSN store. I just need to stock up on japanese point cards now.

Anybody know why Raiden 3 was pulled from the US PSN store? Funny how it didn't get released in the japanese PSN store.

Is G-Darius exclusive to JP PSN or is it available in other regions?

According to the G-Darius wikipedia page, it's JP-only.

Finally got around to getting a japanese points card. 10,000 yen got me:

Don Patchi
Do Don Patchi
Philosoma
G Darius
Cotton Original
Cotton 100%
Einhander
Raystorm
Raycrisis
Wolf Fang
Harmful Park
Psyvariar Complete Edition
Strikers 1945 II
Raiden

Even picked up "LSD" because I've heard good things about that game even though it's not a shmup. Thinking about picking up Gunners Heaven, Space Harrier 2, Fantasy Zone Collection, Starblade Alpha, Edge of Skyhigh, Galaxian 3, Galaxy Force 2.

If anybody has any other noteworthy titles that were exclusive to the japanese PS1, PS2 feel free to mention them.

Is it possible to purchase any of these Japan region games for a US based PS3?

I want Harmful Park badly!

Thanks.

Absolutely. You just need to create a Japanese account on your US PS3. Buy some Japanese point cards from places like Play-Asia.com (they offer instant email delivery). Type the code in, download the games you want on your Japanese account and they'll play on your usual US account once downloaded.

Thank you so much. Since I had to sell my Harmful Park some years back, I was hoping it would appear in the US PSN like Gaia Seed, but so far not.

I am going to do what you said!

I too was waiting years for more of these PS1 shooters to make it to the NA store especially because we saw Zanac X Zanac, Cho Aniki, and Xevious3D/G+ make it over. Now that the PS3's lifespan is dwindling down as far as new releases is concerned, it's highly unlikely we'll see many more PS1 games get released. I would love to see some PS2 shmups get the PS2 to PS4 treatment with trophy support. Gradius V would be the top contender for that to happen.

Yes, it's more of a VS shmup, though it does feature a single-player mode where you fight AI opponents. While playing solo can be fun in itself, I think playing against other players will make you get the most out of the game.

Completely different games, in case you don't know. Cotton Original is (like the name suggests) a port of the first game, from the arcade. Cotton 100% is a port of the later SFC one.
