Detana Twinbee - Stereo pinout backwards?

Post by NOAH »

Hey, folks. Been a while since I've been on here, but I actually got a chance to play games a little bit today for the first time in a while and played Detana Twinbee in a Konami Windy cab with the stock stereo harness. For those familiar with Konami stereo pcb's, the pinout is typically 1 L+, 2 L-, 2 R-, 4 R+. Konami Windy cabs include a stereo harness with this configuration and every other stereo Konami pcb I have uses this pinout (X-Men, Simpsons, Turtles in Time, Xexex, Life Force). I always figured Detana Twinbee was the same, but for the first time today I noticed that the sounds of the gun shots during the stage completion screen of stage one was backwards (gun on right of screen sounds left and vice versa). So to further investigate I went to the sound check and was hoping to find a left and right channel test pattern, no such luck.
What I did find, was a sequential sound test including the voice samples "Twinbee, Ikimasu!!!" and "Winbee, Ikimasu!!!". Twinbee is the blue player one which always spawns on the left side of the screen and Winbee is the pink player two on the right side. The voice samples for each character however played on the opposite side of where they appear on screen.

So I've concluded that Detana Twinbee has a reversed stereo pinout, at least the Japanese pcb anyway. For those wondering why I didn't just turn one of the pots down to see which side was effected, my memory tells me that when I balanced the pots some years ago that I didn't notice a reversal of channels, in that case the audio would just be programmed backwards and the pcb pinout itself would be configured correctly, at least in relation to the pot adjustment. In any case, I have to use my home made Raiden Fighters Jet stereo connector with no tab on it and put it on backwards for it to sound right. For a moment I wondered if Japanese Konami pcb's used an opposite configuration to US, but that wouldn't make sense since the Windy is a Japanese cabinet and is configured to work with all my american Konami pcb's.

Anyone else have experience with Detana Twinbee stereo?

What version of windy cab do you have? I just got a pink windy and was hoping it had the konami stereo wire but its mono only straight from the jamma harness :(

Sorry for the late reply, my Windy's are regular pink Windy's, not Windy II's. There are at least two versions of the regular Windy cab I know that much. Hopefully you lucked out and got the one with the volume pot.
