Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
I found a listing for a "large Mitsubishi Professional Crt" on my local craigslist but sofar they havent responded to emails.
I guess theyve already had 10 emails before mine.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Thanks for the heads up on that 34" tacoguy! I shot the guy an email and a text this morning but he never responded. The listing eventually went down so I assumed someone snagged it before me, but just stumbled upon this https://nh.craigslist.org/sop/5574750260.html he pulled a fast one.. Am I being super frugal for not being interested in it anymore now that it went from 'free' to $25? My reasoning is just that I am in Mass. and $25 would've paid for the gasoline to get there.. I have a D20 at home, just figured it would make a nice home for a 480p setup. Maybe I can be convinced otherwise, we are filthy purist collectors afterall...
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Is 480p at a usable size worth $25 to you?
Actually, when considering buying such a thing, I'd always had to factor in the cost of hiring some actual moving guys...it's too big to fit in a Chevy Cruze and too heavy for mere mortals to lift.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
I was lead to believe by someone on the Neo forums that the newer models of this tv can do 240p via component but this monitor definitely doesn't have component inputs and only vga, which as fudoh points out, might not do 240p. I still think it would be worth to at least test the monitor and see how much you like it. Seems like it's only ok for 240p content but really good for 480p.
And Ed is right, when buying such a huge monitor always consider the extra cost or favor that it will cost you when hiring someone for help or when a buddy helps you out.
Got another link for people in NY for 8 broadcasting monitors.
The catch? They want someone to pick up all 8 monitors at once

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
A free 20L5? what a deal. I see what they go for on ebay.
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Some of those other ones are pretty decent too. Even if you only want to keep the 20L5, you wouldn't have much trouble getting rid of the others.

Yeah the 20L5 is what I'd really want, but the 20M4Us are pretty nice as well.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
the 20M4U are terrific!
I have it's 600 TVL, 14 inch conterpart, the 14M2U (actually, it's a 1354Q, but their pretty much the same thing) and it's so tight, I cant recomend it enough : Thick scanlines (meaning thin blanked lines, wich is the look I prefer) that are full (can't make out individual cells) and every color is rich and the color accuracy and gamma accuracy is off the charts.
If I had to buy a 20 inch monitor on ebay, I would probably go with the 800 TVL 20M4U, as I believe it's the best bang for your buck for this size. Noticeably cheaper than a 20L5, but still kickass
(of course if you absolutely NEED a 31kHz CRT and don't want to rely on a 2nd screen (PC CRT) for 480p and higher res, then get a 20L5).

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Einzelherz, have you tought about grabbing an older PC CRT monitor (like a LaCie Electron Blue) and a linedoubler with scanline functions(like the OSSC, or an older XRGB) or a DVDO and a SLG?
Blair posted pics of his setup(Lacie 22 inch + DVDO + SLG) on page 41 of the OSSC thread, and it looks amazing. He also has a 20L5, and he says that the former compares to the 20L5.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
I have a meager Samsung that I could probably do that with. The reason I'm seeking a 20L5 is that it's a swiss army knife. I have a 14L5 and I'd like to have it's big brother so I can TATE the 14. There's not much need for it, just silly desire.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Ah I see
Didn't remembered that you have a 14L5. Thought you didn't have a PVM at the moment and were desperate to find one
For Quebec shmuppers :
There's a bunch of 19" and 22" LaCie Electron Blue's in Montreal for pretty cheap : between $25 and $50

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
I have a 14N6U. its only 500 lines but because of the screen size it looks very good to me. I didnt pay a lot for it. i bought it about 3 years ago on ebay.
i havent bought any more pro monitors because people want a small fortune for them.
I did buy one 20N6U for a good price but it got broken in shipping. i wont ship any more monitors after that.
My latest find was an 800 line 36" jvc tv that i got for $25.

In hunting news, I took $100 chance on an eBay medical Sony. Assuming the whole thing isn't a pile of tangled plastic and metal when it arrives, I'll at least have a BKM-129X for my trouble.
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Here it is.
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Whats the model of that JVC?
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
JVC av36s33. There is also a AV36s36. Only difference being that the 36s36 has picture in picture.
This is also about 100 lb lighter than my 32" sony.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
There was a 700 line one, 27D201, for sale down by my parents when I was visiting last month. They weren't interested
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Not a professional monitor, but thought I'd throw it in this thread, looks like a free KV-36FV310 in decent shape, at least cosmetically. I won't be in a position to snag this one, good luck if anyone is after one of these.

A handful of small monitor auctions of varying pedigrees:

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Spotted in Colorado: lot of 21-inch ViewSonic monitors with RGB inputs! These suckers were apparently very high-end.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
All CRT computer monitors had RGB inputs, VGA is an RGB input. This one has 5xBNC, which is the same as VGA, all it does is save you the use of an adapter. It doesn't support 15KHz, so it's limited to 480p. It does support csync and sync-on-green, but so did most Viewsonic CRT monitors: my consumer-grade Viewsonic A90 did.
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
I've seen some old TTL-only CRT monitors, though anybody would know them if they saw them. Probably quite rare now, and most of them are likely just green or amber mono color type.

Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Two BVM-D24s within driving distance of me on eBay. Both crazy high prices. And a 20F1U.
Figures.
Figures.

Finally found something in Toronto
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
I found someone local on craigslist selling pvms cheap and i contacted him but he sold his 2 20l5s and 2 20m2u right away. he also sold his 14" PVMs. now all he has left is some shitty B/W monitors.
Re: Professional/Broadcast monitor hunting.
Looks like some F1U/G1U's there. Nice find!!kardus wrote:Finally found something in Toronto
