Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Been playing the PCB of Outzone for a good month or so, and until a couple of days ago I never triggered the Zero Wing bonus points ship flying across the screen.
Does anyone know what triggers it? I actually thought my PCB was glitched till it happened ... I've triggered all the other known secrets like the Truxton ship and the Biplanes.
I've even got to the 4th loop and never triggered the Zero Wing before ...
The odd thing about the other day, I reset the PCB about 4-5 times in a short space of time (messing about with monitor settings) then I started a playthrough and triggered about 4-5 Zero Wings in that run on the first loop.
Cheers!!

Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
I always thought it was route dependent. If you exit an area on the right side of the screen instead of left.

Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Oh really?
I must just have been going the same route each time then ...
There must be some other trigger though? As I thought I'd have stumbled upon them more than that once.

Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Does anyone have an update on this, and reliable strategies for all the other secrets? I will try to find a scan from Gamest when I'm home, which has the rules for the Tatsujin ship (I think you have to bomb twice during the boss that lasers the platform apart?!) and the Hishouzame planes (the trees have to be destroyed in a certain order if I recall correctly, and Gamest printed a guide on it).
But the Zero Wing planes still puzzle me. I only trigger them accidentally extremely rarely, maybe once every 20 runs and only one per run. I haven't found a good guide on these when searching the web in Japanese even... seems like all the superplayers on YouTube know.. haha.

Charge arma is the name of the "C" item. Zero Wing bonus (max 45.000 points for each) appear in entire game 9 times.ave wrote:Sorry, charge arm? 0,1,2 ITEM? Can you explain a little more for dumb me?Gemant wrote:Obtain charge arm x 8 and then zero wing appear.

Okay, so you mean I have to obtain it at least, exactly or more than 8 times? There aren't 8 C-items in each stage though, so how do you count 8?

Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Sounds to me like every time you get 8 C items it will give you the bonus. Stage 1 doesn't have enough items, stage 2 has enough for 1, stage 5 has enough for 2, etc.

In stage 1 there are C items x 5. In stage 2 when you collect other 3 C items you can see the first Zero Wing bonus.ave wrote:Okay, so you mean I have to obtain it at least, exactly or more than 8 times? There aren't 8 C-items in each stage though, so how do you count 8?
Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Isn't the Zero Wing secret sometimes dependent on the way you exit certain areas of a stage? I remember on my last run, where I didn't change weapons from the Super Ball from Stage 2- Stage 5 midway point, the Zero Wing ship appeared 2-3 times, even though I didn't pick up any C items for those stages.
There's also a few points in stages 3/6 where shooting certain walls gives a 5,000 pt bonus. There's also the Pipiru secret in stage 1, where you need to keep him alive till the end of the level for at least a 40kbonus.

Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Here's some more details on the secrets that I carried together over the past few days. I won't cover Pipiru because that one is too obvious.
The Hishouzame Helpers (in Daisenpuu formation) (Stage 2)
This one required some real digging... and the answer was nowhere to be found online. I ended up asking a Japanese friend to take a picture of the urawaza in an old issue of Gamest (see bottom of this post).
As suspected by everyone it's about how you shoot the trees. Shoot the one in the centre (#5 on the drawing below) first with a single shot - only then start shooting the rest.
Like this:
Tatsujin Ship (Stage 4)
At the beginning of stage 4 (right after the boss that uses lasers to cut the floor apart), you will face this door: Make sure you have exactly 7 bombs in stock when you walk through that gate and the Tatsujin ship will appear to help you.
BTW: I read on multiple forums that people say the Tatsujin ship is inside the ball weapon. While there appears to be a ship of some sort inside that ball, it doesn't look anything like the Tatsujin/Truxton ship. I don't know why people keep spreading this false information.
The "5000-Bonus Dead Ends" (Stage 3, 6)
There are three spots in the game like that:
1) 2) 3)
Gamest article with all OutZone tricks except Pipiru:

Not exactly shooting the wall but walking into certain small dead ends will be rewarded with 5000pts.maximo310 wrote:There's also a few points in stages 3/6 where shooting certain walls gives a 5,000 pt bonus.

Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Daisenpuu Helper secret is not correct. Depend from the number in the score.
Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
Daisempuu helper solution (sorry, is in italian).
Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
I'm currently playing this one a bit and I can confirm that you need to pick up exactly eight C items (or a multiple thereof) and in some cases it's also dependent on where you are on the screen, yes. Note that you don't have to pick up eight more C items after making a Zero Wing ship appear, if you never switch to another C item you'll be able to trigger the next Zero Wing ship(s) as well. The Super Burner and Super Ball do not count towards the number of C items, and it's recommended to switch to them from time to time since you'll get back to the fixed double guns* if you pick up another C item which can make it significantly easier to fulfill the requirements for the ships and staying alive at the same time. I'd argue it's only worth it to get all nine Zero Wing ships for the first loop since this way you can get over 2.1m and thus start the second loop with nine lives in reserve, it's probably too dangerous in subsequent loops and you don't get any extends anymore, regardless.
*Edit: you actually switch back to whatever you had equipped before picking up the Super Burner/Super Ball. It's nonetheless a useful technique.

Anyone knows anything about the secret bridge on Stage 3
I've seen some clip in the past, the first E (energy) item on the left, there's some invisible bridge over that lava bit with a multiple of 5k bonus once walked over to the other side
The only secret I know is the Potato Guy in stage 1

the bridge work in 2p simultaneous only

Hmmm... I'd swear I've seen a 1p replay before where the player just walks over the bridge... It's been a while so I might be wrong... Thanks for sharing more infos GemantGemant wrote:...the bridge work in 2p simultaneous only

Yup, a friend of mine went to my place this weekend and just did that trick more than once in 1 Player mode.CHI wrote:Hmmm... I had tried many times, but in 1p mode the bridge not appear and you miss a life. But maybe there is a trick or maybe there is a bootleg or alternative romset where this trick work._rm_ wrote:Yup, a friend of mine went to my place this weekend and just did that trick more than once in 1 Player mode.CHI wrote:Hmmm... Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
I can guarantee it Works in 1Player mode, in fact, i can also guarantee it Works in different hardware/revisions of the game:
I own one of those early versions of the game that are Factory conversions done by Toaplan, my game is Japan region and has those infamous "2nd loop difficulty" eproms from factory and the secret Works.
My friend who performed the trick, has a European version of the game in the "regular" hardware, and it also Works with his game.
In order to pull this off, you must take a "leap of faith" in one very precise spot (a few inches away of the actual bridge placement) so that the actual bridge shows up.

Re: Zero Wing secrets in Outzone ...
The Bridge secret in stage 3 is not 2P exclusive.
I do not have my PCB at home right now and I'll be traveling to Asia next week.
I can't right now make a little video footage of that secret.
It amazes me that the guide Gemant has shown refers to 2P only.
I can't deny 100%, because Gemant may be refering to a specific romset, so in that case he is right.
However, I own a Legit Europe version of Outzone and I never played the PCB in 2P. Always in single player.
The bridge shows at stage 3.
This Weekend I went to _rm_'s place and I tried the version he has. I was playing to check how far I could go on his PCB ( as the difficulty was hugely more aggressive ) and he came next to me just when I reached the 3rd level. He asked me to show how to make the bridge and so did I. I died at first because I had the Speed Power UP so I couldn't place my char in the right spot. But After I fell in the lava pit trying, I did it again and again. I lost all live to show the trick.
The thing is, you cannot walk over the bridge area to make it appear. You have to walk like in the the rightmost edge of the bridge.
You can even take the 1st 5000points bonus without making the bridge appear. If you successfuly take those first 5000 points, then just don't move right or left. Just walk a little bit forward and the bridge will fully appear. Then, you can adjust your char position as you want.
I cant believe you guys didn't check on Youtube videos

Outzone have multiple set and there are tons of differences between the sets. So I'm sure 101% that the bridge not appear in the romset that I used to make my old guide.
I remember well that the ALIENS eggs (the best secret in this game) are available on a specific romset.
