The hunt for in the hunt (now dead)

Post by Captain »

Earlier today (20 minutes ago, haha) I passed a "junk store" and saw a box with "In the hunt" (with "") written on it. I've been to the store before and the owner generally has no idea what exactly he is selling. The price on the box is 4$ (in another currency).

Our town had exactly one arcade with no shooters in it. Our country probably had/s less than 100 arcades in total and I bet like two had quality shooters.

Do I buy the box or not? I've no idea on the availability of ITH and god knows whats in there.

Yeah, at $4 there's no reason not to.

$4 is not very much. Just go for it.

In it was a CD. and a bunch of wrapping crap.

In the CD was a rom of In the Hunt.

Money status: wasted.

(but lets turn this into something entirely different)

Just as I attempted to insert the CD into my PC, a masked man burst into the room, took the CD and jumped through the window.

What do I do?

Realizing there is probably a bomb set up us in the room, I also jumped and persued the man.

He pulled out a gun and shot at me, but I grazed the bullets.

Then he went down the drain.

What do i do?

(You are aware that I am not even remotely trying to be serious about this, riiiiiight? I mean really, can't you feel the stupidity of the entire thing? Not as stupid as buying a freaking rom though.)

I take out my smartphone and it vanishes in a small explosion, I return to find my home is definitely not blown up, and open the first door I see, only to accidentally trip and slam against it.

What do I do?

Edit: Oh yea, forgot to mention the CD also had a horribly outdated mame on it as well.

"I will find something awesome and obscure in this amazing town!"

Then you buy a CD with a ROM image on it.

Whoops.

Meanwhile, in Lisbon district, Portugal...

Were you really hoping to make the next big find after those 2 obscure PCB found in a warehouse threads recently?

Rip the door off its hinges and paint In the Hunt paraphernalia all over it. Then fashion yourself a superhero costume and surf that door down to the junk store and interrogate the owner!

Send it to Specineff in an unmarked package with only a fingerprint on the disk.

I found a loose PS1 disc of In The Hunt for a mere $3.00 USD at a local Gamestop one day...upon booting it up on the ol' PSX, it worked like a charm despite the heavily scratched surface on the "Read Only" portion of the CD-Rom disc. A fellow shmupper said that the PSX version of ItH runs a tad bit faster than the original Irem M-92 powered arcade PCB version of the same name but it's a fun romp, nevertheless. Not a bad deal/score for a mere twelve quarters + tax.

Back in October of 1997, the American based Kay Bee Toys chain of stores were selling brand new copies of PSX shmup titles of Raiden Project and In The Hunt for a mere $19.99 USD in the video game clearance bin. Bought RP and thought about getting ItH but passed on it at that current point in time (RP was enclosed in one of those original Sega Saturn CD cases that SCEA bought to sell their 1st pressing PSX game titles in at retail).

The arcade PCB of ItH is the definitive version to play/own (as it's a hefty two-layered PCB affair), indeed.

The In the Hunt hunter has become the In the Hunt hunted.

It happens. But there is a large difference.

First of all, finding A valid form of ITH wouldn't be a big find.

Second of all, I rarely see anything of this kind -anywhere- around here.

I honestly expected either something like what I already found, or some ITH related stuff but no game. (which would be much better, honestly)

Oh well :P (oh and the shitgame is over)

But not in the circumstances of "what's in this CD sized box, but you can't see, unless you pay $4"

The box was not CD-sized. It was pretty fucking big. And full of that thing they stuff boxes with (and one CD).

Oh, that changes everything. You got your money's worth, easily. I'd buy big fucking boxes sight unseen all day long at $4!

Try not buying sight unseen next time. Don't know what you expect me to see that makes you look smart in this.

Dunno what you have against me, but you clearly don't see things as they are.

This conversation is over -_-
