Core Grafx came today!!...

Post by dave4shmups »

Man, is this thing tiny! Seriously, in pictures I'd seen of it on the internet, it looks like it's the size of a friggin' Dreamcast! (Makes me wonder how big the SuperGrafx really is!)

At any rate, what awesome little system! I have 4 games for it-Galga'88, Override, Soldier Blade, and GunHed! :D

About 2 years ago, I noticed an Ebay seller, located in Morrison, Colorado-I don't remember his screen name; wonder if it would violate any of Ebay's policies to ask them to help me search for this guy?

At any rate, NEC rulz! I will eventually get a Super CD-Rom for my Core Grafx, and I may also pick up a SuperGrafx, PC-FX, and maybe even an LT! (I'm set to become the JP of NEC consoles. 8) )

Dunno about the PC Engine handheld system-I've heard that a lot of the games don't play very well on it, due to the reduced screen size.

I saw you asking about Zeroigar for the PC-FX over on the magicenginefx boards or something like that (there are two boards I keep confusing)...

Interestingly, Mad-Gear-LLC on eBay has a sealed copy for a pretty good price, it's a BIN with a price tag of less than what I paid for my sealed copy (which I got into a bid war over).

edit: Your topic says SuperGrafx... but then you say you want to pick up a SuperGrafx..? Do you actually mean you have a Core Grafx?

Yeah, a Core Grafx is what I've got; edited title!

You paid $188 IIRC... Anyway, used mint copies with spine can be found (albeit very infrequently) for less than $150 so if you don't heavily care about condition, which I recall that Dave doesn't, then you could snatch one up for about 2/3 that price.

LESS then $150! Where, because I'd certainly be surprised if you could find one for that cheap on Ebay.

At any rate, what about those screen issues I've mentioned with the PC Engine GT?

Yeah, Zeroigar is still pretty expensive on yahoo Japan auctions too. I still haven't gotten around to getting a PC-FX either, although I did download an iso of the game... shame, I know :(

Anyway, back to CoreGrafx.. I think I paid around $80 CAD for my boxed unit a few months back, and I was impressed with the size too, the footprint is about the size of a CD jewel case O_________________o;;; and the HuCARDS, way ahead of their time!
Was the original PC-Engine the same size? How did the TG-16 end up being such a monster?

Dave, again, you have to wait around for these deals. Somebody at one of the major import game forums had a self-described mint copy with spine just a few months ago for $150 shipped. On Ebay, such prices may be harder to find. They definitely won't always be readily available at the cheapest prices.

Yea, I've always liked the Japanese counterparts of the Turbo Grafx 16 as well.
My favorite is the "Shuttle Grafx", but I don't think that you can hook that one up to a CD player.

Basically, the Core Grafx is the same size as a CD jewel case. Or two NEC control pads side by side. Bigger isn't always better.
The US model Turbo looks ugly by comparison, with its usless bulk and "vacuum cleaner attachment". PLus, it doesn't even come with composite video!!!

Congrats on the Core and Gunhed! Good stuff.

The GT is trash. Avoid. I'll say the same for the PC FX. Zeroigar and Chip Chan Kick are all that's worth playing and they're certainly not redefining their respective genres or anything. Money better spent on games for real systems. Stick to the Core, there is a butt-ton of games for the thing and almost all of 'em are pretty cheap.

Well, I hope you just got that ~$110 copy from Ebay.
